Help please poorly kitten

My 6mth old kitten (Teddy) has been vomiting white frothy liquid since Sat night. Took him to vet yesterday (because I was concerned about the stuff DH had put on the lawn last week) she examined him and did bloods but apart from slightly raised temperature everything was normal. She gave him an injection to help the nausea and he tried to eat a tiny bit of fish last night.
He was sick again last night but nothing since the only thing is he's still not interested in food. He is drinking a little and weeing so that's good but he is sleeping a lot and looking very sorry for himself.
Is there anything I can do/get him to help his tummy and tempt him to eat. Tried steamed fish and chicken and all his favorites but no interest so far.
We (Teddy and me) would be very grateful for any ideas. Thanks Here he is a week or so ago x

In answer to your question No he doesn't like the food and refused to eat it all day yesterday. Spoke to my vet as she was concerned about him having the Metacam on an empty stomach in case it caused irritation. She said I could try him with the Royal Cabin sensitive to see if he'd eat that and could mix it with some steamed chicken or fish if that helped.
He showed a bit more interest in the "sensitive" food and ate it all when I mixed it with chicken. So sent hubby off to change one of the boxes of food for sensitive.
This morning thought I'd try him with the GI food with some chicken mixed in and he ate that as well Grin so we have 2 choices now.
He's still tearing around and playing in fact both cats were running around the house at 5.10am this morning including leaping on my bed - took me an hour to get back to sleep. They are now both fast asleep and I have to do the housework !
Thanks for your concern Time , I tell him he has to be a good boy take his meds and eat his food so I can let you know how he is.

Glad to be of use! Tbh I'm very impressed - I can see my Tilly, in similar circumstances, either picking out all the chicken and leaving the GI food, or refusing to touch it at all, then refusing to touch plain chicken as it might be 'poisoned' (!), then moaning loudly that I'm starving her! So the fact that he's eating it at all is brilliant!

Of course, it could be that he does like it anyway, but can't be seen to be too compliant as you might then start taking liberties!!!

Hope you stayed awake long enough to do the housework yesterday. I suspect you were both thrilled to have him so lively yesterday morning, as well as highly p-ed off that he'd woken you up! I'm sure he knew it as well!

Anyway, hope you are having a good weekend without too much chaos. Tell Teddy that I hope he continues being a good boy and eating everything he should, so that he continues to get better!

Just a quick update.
Teddy continues to be fine on the current meds - 3 more days to go.
I need to phone the vet tomorrow to see if she wants me to carry on with the "sensitive" food for a few more days/weeks then reintroduce normal food if he's still OK or just go back to normal straight away.

Teddy's still doing OK, just realised how much he's grown since he's been eating properly. Hope this is a good sign Smile.

He looks well. Fingers crossed for him. Smile

TimeIhadaNameChange · 26/05/2016 21:59

I may be imagining it (esp as I think the first photo wastaken before he was ill) but I think he looks more with it in the second photo. He's seen something and is plotting something.

He is gorgeous. Glad he's still doing so well. Please keep us updated!

anoldiebutagoody · 26/05/2016 22:34

Time, you're right, in the latest photo he's just sat down after having a manic episode jumping from floor to chairs to windowsill and plaguing the other cat to play, basically being a normal mischievous kitten Smile.
In the first one he'd just woken up I think.

Another update on Teddy.
Not good news I'm afraid. He finished his meds on Sunday and has been sick twice since yesterday morning and this morning. He ate OK yesterday from about 11am ( didn't want his breakfast) not quite as much as when he was on the meds but I was hopeful it was an isolated episode. Unfortunately he's not had much to eat today only about half packet of food and some chicken breast this morning.
He's still running around the house and garden in the sunshine catching and eating anything that flies , if it wasn't for the vomiting and not eating he's a normal mischievous kitten.
Vet is off until Friday so we have an appointment at 10.30 - I'm thinking she might prescribe a course of steroids and maybe do more bloods. Please keep your fingers crossed for him.

Just caught up on this OP, sorry Teddy isn't any better :(

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/06/2016 06:42

Fingers crossed here. What is he eating now?.

anoldiebutagoody · 02/06/2016 09:15

He's not eating much at all Fluffy. He was eating the Royal Cabin sensitive food as the vet wanted to give his digestive system something easy to digest, plus he was having steamed chicken breast and on Tuesday I steamed some white fish for him, which he nibbled at.
The only thing he wants to eat today are the flies he's catching.
He's a little quieter today but still chasing anything that flies both in the house & in the garden.
Really don't want to put him through a lot more tests/treatment so will have to see what she says tomorrow.

I'm sorry that he's not doing so well.

You said that the vet wasn't going down the FIP route?

anoldiebutagoody · 02/06/2016 10:08

Hi cozie,
The biopsies were tested for active FIP because of his high titre there was no indication at that time and there was no fluid present in the abdomen. Obviously we can't rule out FIP as it could develop but the vet at Bristol hospital thought it wasn't likely especially as the lab had said the enlargement of the lymphnodes was reactive probably to inflammation or infection. She did say that he might be shedding the virus which could cause the high temperature and it could take months - the only way to find that out is to monitor the calcivirus titre.
It could be pyraxia of unknow origin but that doesn't explain the enlarged lymphnodes. So we're not much further ahead, we'll have to see what vet says tomorrow.

Best of luck to the wee lad then. Let us know how it goes tomorrow.

cozietoesie · 02/06/2016 10:28

PS - remind me. Did you check with the person he came from to see if eg any litter mates are also unwell?

bluetongue · 02/06/2016 10:38

Poor Teddy. My poor little girl is also sick and vomiting. Blood was taken tonight to be tested for pancreatitis Sad This is on top of the sever IBD or lymphoma she is already being treated for.

She's now on steroids every day, leukeran three times a week, anti nausea tablets and liquid pain killers for her sore tummy.

anoldiebutagoody · 02/06/2016 11:10

Sorry to hear about your girl blue, hope they stop the vomiting and she gets better soon.
Cozie I did check with the Cats Action Trust to see if any of the other cats were poorly but they weren't. As far as kitten ages are concerned he was the only survivor of a fox attack so no littermates 😥.

anoldiebutagoody · 02/06/2016 11:14

*kitten ages??
Littermates I mean't.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 02/06/2016 11:25

You're doing all you can then. Poor little lad.

Our fingers are crossed for him.

anoldiebutagoody · 02/06/2016 14:49

I've just realised that he's usually only sick once in the morning, just after he wakes up Tuesday 8am, yesterday 7am and this morning 3.30am ( because the other cat came in and woke him up to play, then went out and came back at 6 am with a present for me - a live bird, which I then had to get up,catch and put back out into a tree).
So even though he has the high temp all the time, it only makes him sick once and he has never thrown up any food. I'll mention it to the vet tomorrow to add to the curious symptoms.

OP posts:
TimeIhadaNameChange · 02/06/2016 15:48

Poor Teddy, I'm so sorry to hear this. I really was hoping for better news.

Does he have access to food during the night? As he doesn't actually throw up food could you try giving him a wee extra just before you go to bed to see if that helps?

Poor baby, though. He's lucky he has you, though. Give him yet another hug from me. Does he want some midgies to munch on? We have lots here!

x

anoldiebutagoody · 02/06/2016 22:48

Yes he does have food (supper) before I go to bed so if he doesn't eat it all it's there overnight.
Gave him some of the Royal Cabin powdered food via syringe at about 3 o'clock as he hadn't eaten since yesterday morning. He took it fine and then at 6 o'clock ha ate half a can of chicken and pumpkin, just a small can but better than nothing.
Going to see if he'll have the other half for supper, if not I'll see if he'll have the syringe food.

What time shall you be speaking to the vet?
