Help please poorly kitten

My 6mth old kitten (Teddy) has been vomiting white frothy liquid since Sat night. Took him to vet yesterday (because I was concerned about the stuff DH had put on the lawn last week) she examined him and did bloods but apart from slightly raised temperature everything was normal. She gave him an injection to help the nausea and he tried to eat a tiny bit of fish last night.
He was sick again last night but nothing since the only thing is he's still not interested in food. He is drinking a little and weeing so that's good but he is sleeping a lot and looking very sorry for himself.
Is there anything I can do/get him to help his tummy and tempt him to eat. Tried steamed fish and chicken and all his favorites but no interest so far.
We (Teddy and me) would be very grateful for any ideas. Thanks Here he is a week or so ago x

Saw my vet yesterday after Teddy's X-rays and scans.
She hadn't been told I was coming so hadn't fully reviewed the scans but his lymph nodes are enlarged and other vet had said that she thought she could feel something in his intestine when he was relaxed under anaesthetic.
The only way forward was to open him up and take biopsies for testing, so that's what she's done today. She's just phoned and he's coming round, she said that there was no fluid in the abdomen and everything looked "nice and pink", so apart from the lymph nodes which were enlarged she couldn't see anything else wrong. We have to wait for the biopsy results , 3/4 days so latest Monday - out of the 4 common possibilities 3 are treatable and one not so we have everything crossed again.
She may keep him in overnight to make sure he's healing OK then he can come home.

Will keep everything crossed here for him.

Give him a big hug for me when you get him home!

Thank you Time, I will-very gentle ones .

How's Teddy doing?

anoldiebutagoody · 13/05/2016 16:47

Thank you for asking, Time, he's really good.
No results from the biopsies yet so he's still on the Metacam plus antibiotics to help his scar to heal. He's being very good with his scar, not bothering with it at all.

He's eating fine and wants to go outside into the sunshine to catch flies (not supposed to go out for a week in case of infection) I have let him out for an hour or so when I was sitting in the garden and could keep an eye on him which he loved.
He's a bit sleepy but I think that's because it's really warm in the house - my other cat is the same.
I'm keeping everything crossed that we get good results on Monday at least something that can be treated :-)

Yes. Fingers crossed for Monday, anoldie. Let us know how it goes.

joeythenutter · 13/05/2016 23:18

Just to say when my cat was doing this, roundworm was the problem. Everything you said was exactly the same as our girl was doing. One dose of avocat sorted it. £6 at vets.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 14/05/2016 01:52

Thanks for the update. Glad he's doing so well.

Pleased he's been enjoying the sunshine. Wish my lass would stick to catching flies, though. She brought in a vole to throw around the kitchen, before taking it into the hall to eat. Yay!!!

Am looking forward to a positive update on Monday. In the meantime, I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Just stumbled accross this thread and keeping my fingers crossed for a good result for Teddy :)

TimeIhadaNameChange · 16/05/2016 15:29

How's Teddy doing? And what are the results of the biopsy? Fingers and claws all crossed for him here!

anoldiebutagoody · 16/05/2016 20:20

Just about to post, you beat me to it Time :-)
No results from the lab yet, vet was chasing this afternoon so hopefully we'll get them tomorrow. I'm hoping no news is good news.
Teddy is doing great eating fine, putting on weight and running around chasing anything that buzzes or chirps - not catching much though.
He's only on Metacam now which seems to be OK, but he can't be on it long term, hence the biopsies.
If you saw him today you wouldn't think anything was wrong with him (apart from the shaved patches and his tummy wound/scar). I'm enjoying seeing him acting like a normal kitten and I'll do my best to give him as happy a life possible however short or long it may be. I'll post as soon as we know anything.

Glad to hear he's better in himself. Long may his improvement continue! He definitely has the beat possible home - he's lucky to have you!

Enjoy the not-catching phase - I'm sure it won't be long before your house is full of dead bodies!

Thanks for the update, and sorry for pestering - I've been thinking of him all day (well, all weekend, but I knew I had to be patient!).

anoldiebutagoody · 16/05/2016 20:33

Time, it's lovely of you to care about him - thank you xx, you're certainly not "pestering".

Poor Teddy, hope he feels better soon.

What are the possible diagnoses?

My poor cat is going through her own tummy troubles right now. She's been treated with steroids for suspected IBD for the past 18 months but has recently taken a turn for the worse. Vet now thinks it's low grade lymphoma so she will now start taking chemotherapy tablets. Poor baby Sad

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 17/05/2016 13:10

Just read the thread, your poor puss! I wonder if he had eaten something poisonous? Not sure if that is something the vet would be able to test for or not.

Glad he is on the mend now.

When my girl cat was about 6 months old she was really poorly, stopped eating and wouldn't move out from under my bed. It turned out she was just really constipated to the point that her gut was obstructed! Once she passed a huge poo she was fine Grin

anoldiebutagoody · 17/05/2016 18:06

Vet has just phoned. They've been chasing the lab all day and the results finally came through at 5.30.
It's good news no sign of any lymphoma or FIP. Smile
The enlargement seems to be as a reaction to inflammation so possible IBD. Vet is going to speak to the pathologist that did the tests to see if there was any indication of the cause of the information, as when she operated for the biopsies the intestine looked OK( not inflamed ) so that's a bit of a puzzle.

I still have my suspicions about that weed and feed husband used on the lawn, although it's supposed to be OK for animals and our other cat is fine.
Maybe little Teddy was more susceptible to it being so young.
It's such a relief to know he's going to have a good amount of time with us.
Mind you he may not like me much when I drop him off to be neutered which is now back on the agenda

Some good news at last then.

cozietoesie · 17/05/2016 18:15

I'm glad for him and for you all. Smile

TimeIhadaNameChange · 17/05/2016 20:33

Am so pleased to hear this. The relief must be immense!

Am sure he'll forgive you for his operation. Eventually!

In the meantime, give him lots of hugs from me, please. Have been thinking about him.

anoldiebutagoody · 17/05/2016 21:55

Thanks for the good wishes ladies, I'll tell him Smile
It is a great relief but we've still got to get to the bottom of it and find the cause of his continuous high temp. I'll update tomorrow after speaking to the vet.

OP posts:
BirthdayBetty · 17/05/2016 22:59

Keeping fingers crossed for good news from the vet.

anoldiebutagoody · 18/05/2016 19:56

Evening Ladies,
Here's the latest on Teddy, my vet spoke to the lab today and they say that the lymphnode enlargement was definitely as a reaction - no sign of active FIP or Lymphoma. They said that it was most likely inflammation of the gut, however Teddy has never had diarhea(sp) which usually happens with that.
Vet then spoke to a cat specialist at Bristol animal hospital (who she knew from college) who confirmed that all the tests needed had been done and whilst she would be happy to examine Teddy she didn't think it would bring anything significant to light..
There's one other thing it may be - because his Corona virus titre was so high his immune system may be overworking to reduce it and help him to shed it, resulting in the enlarged lymph nodes and high temperature. This would only happen over time and we'd need to do more blood tests to see if the titre has gone down in a few weeks.
So we have decided to go down the inflammation route first, for the next 10 days he has antibiotics, Metacam and a special GI tract food (hope he'll eat it !)
Then we'll leave him for a week or so to see if it's eased and take bloods to see if there's been any decline in the Coronavirus titre.
So still got everything crossed for a diagnosis eventually Smile

TimeIhadaNameChange · 18/05/2016 20:06

That doesn't sound a bad update. Ok, so you're not sure what's wrong, but you know what it isn't.

How's he being in himself? Hope he's still running around causing chaos!

Hope he likes his new food. Be prepared for lots of big eyes and claims that you're starving him!!!!

Lots of gentle hugs for him.

anoldiebutagoody · 18/05/2016 21:44

Hi Time,
Yes it's pretty good considering.
It's really a case of try & try to find what works and I'm happy to do that.
He's still eating well and running around escaping from the garden to the front of the house where he's not supposed to be ! and then just sitting looking at me like butter wouldn't melt while I'm tearing my hair out looking for him.
He's a bit stuffed up at the moment so looks like he's starting a respiratory infection but the antibiotics will sort that out anyway.
He's probably not going to be happy with the diet unless he likes the food then I probably won't be happy with it as it 'll cost me an arm and a leg to pay for all the food he'll eat Grin

TimeIhadaNameChange · 20/05/2016 09:31

How's the wee lad doing? Has he decided whether or not he likes his new food?

Hope he's continuing to improve, and drive you up the wall with his antics!!!
