I've always had cats, and they've always been rescues.

We got two cats last year. The first one was 9 months old black cat and he'd been an indoor cat all his life. We let him out (after a couple of weeks) and he was one of those cats that went from house to house, getting fed around the neighbourhood Hmm. But lovely when he did come home.

Then we got a grey tabby kitten whose mum had been found in a friend's shed when she was pregnant. He's gorgeous and nearly 1 now. He hangs around our ankles, likes company.

But then, the first cat died after being run over - his territory was so large, I guess it was inevitable Sad. We live in a cul de sac, backing onto other gardens, but he was roaming streets away.

Anyway.

I REALLY want another cat and I've realised I get a lot of pleasure from the appearance of cats - I love grey cats in particular. But, there's hardly ever any grey cats in rescues.

I'd also really love a lap cat. Our black cat was so independent I didn't get my needs met Wink

Soo...

Ragdolls are quite sensitive ime - our cat was very upset after she was spayed whereas our moggies seemed to just get over it very quickly. So, yes I guess they would be easily bullied by other cats.

good advice Lottie, thanks

Good luck - I'm sure you'll find the right cat for you. I can't compare with any other breed than ragdoll but our moggies would like to go to a far corner of the house and just be away from everyone, and maybe come for the occasional stroke, whereas our current cat follows us from room to room and likes to watch what we're all doing. She doesn't like to be by herself at all really. Which is why we're getting another!

You know that rescue is the way to go. Cast your net wide. Think of all the cat tree/toy/other stuff you could spend 500 quid on. Good luck . BTW our first cat was a foundling grey kitten. Lived till she was 19.

Not sure where you are but older cat looking for a home via a rescue here

And here

Peaceandloveeveryone · 29/03/2016 19:25

Don't think it's true at all that fancy cats are more friendly. I am team rescue.

FakeFakeRecordsRecords · 29/03/2016 20:19

Thanks Bagel but we have a 12 month old moggie who is VERY playful. Every morning we run the gauntlet to breakfast with him ambushing our feet all the way Grin

I think an older cat would be traumatised by him unfortunately.

it's all this talk of Somalis and Abyssinians that got me thinking of friendliness!

I do have a rescue cat too and he isn't friendly at all! He loves my British shorthair and follows her around all day, but when it comes to people he isn't keen.

Yes, some aren't and some are very friendly Smile

We lost a £500 Siberian last year to kidney failure. 3 years old. She was also quite temperamental abs scratchy but we loved herSad. I have a rescue Persian new who is a lover boy. Charity operates all over the UK. Pm me if interested.

UptownFlunk · 30/03/2016 22:59

Here's my BSH, he's gentle and loving and likes to be nearby at all times but he doesn't get on your lap.

Our most miserable cat I mentioned up thread happens to be a BSH - got her as a rescue kitten and her background isn't known.

Anyway DP has gone to bed early and she has slunk out of miserableness and I'm enjoying a rare moment of her purring on my knee! Photo from just now Smile

I am also looking for a grey kitten, would take 2. I am in East Sussex and can't find anything at all.Sad

Peaceandloveeveryone · 31/03/2016 01:18

Loads at the rescue I posted earlier which is rolvenden.

MsMims · 31/03/2016 20:41

We have quite a few rescue cats. Have to say, in terms of the moggies, they all became far more friendly and human orientated once they were converted to indoor cats. Cats sleep for so much of the day, I guess they were using all their energy up outside and just using home as a place to eat and sleep. Even my big grumpy old man now chirrups and climbs on my chest for cuddles.

I have four grey rescue cats so they do come up if you're able to wait. Having said that, no matter what colour or breed you will adore them when they arrive! Also, my rescues who have arrived as adults are all very dedicated to their family and seem to know they have a good thing now.

RubbishMantra · 02/04/2016 21:20

My pedigree (Devon Rex) isn't fancy at all.

He drinks out the toilet and carries lumps of mud/moss into the house while B&W moggy looks on in disdain. If B&W (MCat) is sick, he wants to thoroughly investigate the pukey mess.

They're good pals though.

RubbishMantra · 02/04/2016 21:28

And I picked him for adoption because of this picture, he could have been any colour. It was the fronty stance that hooked me in.

A southpaw! Grin

Great picture, Mantra.

cozietoesie · 02/04/2016 21:38

Or maybe not, cats being different from people but not that different. What does he hook with?
