The worst thing about having a cat?

I'm guessing the good outweighs the bad in most cases but just how bad can it be?

These pictures are overriding the poo and vom stories. I can't wait to pick my little valentine up on Sunday Smile

They are quite messy, esp this time of year - there are muddy paw prints everywhere! The pros def outweigh the cons though Smile

I haven't had any poo outside the litter tray experiences yet

Clearing up dead mice/birds or worse catching live ones he has lost while playing with. He actually brings them in, plays with them and releases them into the house- nightmare! But love him to bits and wouldn't never be parted from him

SpotOn · 12/02/2016 07:01

No way does our cat sleep on our bed! If he's not locked in the kitchen overnight he jumps on us and wants to play at 5am. He's 18yo!

thehillshaveyes · 12/02/2016 08:32

If I close my bedroom door will she eventually get used to not being able to come in? I know people say cats can't be trained but I know I wouldn't be able to sleep with her on my bed. She could sleep on the floor or the windowsill but not my bed!

Fleas. I just had to deflea 2 cats & a dog, and spray the entire house. Had cats all my life though and that was the first time.

Wouldn't be without my cats :-)

willconcern · 12/02/2016 08:35

No cats in the bedroom though. At night they get shut in the utility. So no running up & down stairs either!

LazySusan11 · 12/02/2016 08:44

The need to stick it's arse in your face, use laptop, bum in face. Read a book, bum in face, iPad/iPhone whatever. Always bum in face. I do not want to cuddle your bum hole! Confused

SevenOfNineTrue · 12/02/2016 08:47

When they pass away Sad

Everything else is fine. No one like cleaning up poo or vomit but that's part of life with a cat. You eventually realise that even though you think they are 'your' cat, they actually run the entire family.

Each one has their own personality so get one that fits in with your lifestyle and needs. Oh, and get one from a rescue centre is my advice. Too many loving cats looking for a home. Finally get excellent vet insurance. I use Pet Plan lifetime. It is expensive but has saved me far more than it cost.

NameChange30 · 12/02/2016 09:32

OP our cats aren't allowed in the bedrooms except if DH is away and I let them in for a morning cuddle and they're fine with it! Boy cat is usually waiting on the landing when we get up in the morning Smile

Girlfriend36 · 12/02/2016 12:07

I keep my cats shut in the kitchen over night, they have everything they need in there and just go to sleep!

readyforno2 · 12/02/2016 12:36

I tried to keep this one in the kitchen at night.
Honestly, the amount of noise he made, it just wasn't worth it.
I suppose it's my own fault. Dh works away a lot (offshore) so it's nice to have him in our room sometimes. Although it's always on his terms.
Never when I actually want him to Hmm

I remembered the 3rd worst this today... He always follows us when we go for a walk/do the school run. This morning he followed us all the way to the other end of the village to the nursery.

cozietoesie · 12/02/2016 12:56

We used to have to sneak out to avoid being followed everywhere by The Lodger. Sometimes it worked - but only sometimes. Grin

TheNoodlesIncident · 12/02/2016 13:40

Mine have learned very fast that they do not get to sleep overnight in our bedroom any more. They woke us up too often with their squabbling.

In fact the squabbling is the worst thing. I have two Feliways on the go, one upstairs and one down. If they are working, I dread to think what we would have if the Feliway wasn't there...

Apart from that, the only problem is the worry when they go out, that they will simply not return.

Lweji · 12/02/2016 14:33

I forgot one bad thing.

I can't play hide and seek in the house with your DS. The cat bloody follows me everywhere and betrays where I'm hiding. Angry

cozietoesie · 12/02/2016 14:56

I bet DS enjoys that though? Grin. How old is he?

Lweji · 12/02/2016 15:16

He's 11 now. We haven't played for a while. But mostly because it's useless.

cozietoesie · 12/02/2016 15:22

Try Scrabble. Cats are lousy at spelling, usually. Grin

Lweji · 12/02/2016 15:31

But very good at messing up the pieces. Not very good at Monopoly either.

Archfarchnad · 12/02/2016 16:25

Most of my grumbles are pretty small ones. He b+++++++++++++++++++++++++++´

OK, that was the cat on the keyboard!

He sits on my keyboard when I'm trying to work, but don't most cats? He averages one to two presents a month, some dead, most more or less just alive. The family of baby sparrows was a low point. And the red squirrel (the shame of it). The only time he ever pooed outside his litter tray was the day we got back from holiday the first time we were away without him. Very passive aggressive. But he loves his new catsitters so all has been well since then. All these things are pretty minor compared to the utter joy (and amusement) he brings us every day.

Absolutely the worst thing is undoubtedly the fear of Something Bad happening. Getting run over, never coming back from morning patrol, or getting FIP (he's been diagnosed with Corona virus, which gives him a 5% risk of getting FIP at some point). It terrifies me, but he would be so unhappy with being kept indoors.

I'm writing this doing head-bumps with him now. 2q

Lovely black and white cats are the best Wink

thehillshaveyes · 14/02/2016 21:42

She's my first cat ever so I'm still learning but I'm very happy so far (I hope she is too!)

OP posts:
NameChange30 · 14/02/2016 21:45

She looks happy - it looks like she's asleep on the sofa? If so it's a great sign that she's doing that already, rather than hiding, which is what cats often do on their first night in a new home.
