The worst thing about having a cat?

I'm guessing the good outweighs the bad in most cases but just how bad can it be?

No bad things! Apart from the fear of how devastated we'd feel if they disappeared or died. But if I forget about that it's just lovely.

It's not lovely clearing up sick (only had to do that once) or poo on the bed (again, just once thank God!) or the occasionally dead creature boy cat brings in... But it's absolutely definitely worth it. They are affectionate and adorable and entertaining. We look forward to getting home to them.

😍😻

When they get poo stuck to their bum/hair and drag their arse around the floor to get it off and then you have to wrestle them in to the bath/cut it off.
When they scratch all your carpets/sofas.
When they meow at half the night and wake the toddler up.
I have two cats, only one of them does these things the other one is perfectly lovely and just wants cuddles.

cozietoesie · 11/02/2016 20:53

It depends on her temperament, I guess. The Lodger sleeps where he chooses - and rarely near humans - but all my Siamese boys would have regarded exclusion from bed as actual punishment and would have been neurotic messes in the morning after spending all night outside the bedroom door brooding and trying to work out what their sin had been.

Give it a try?

MaccaPaccaismyNemesis · 11/02/2016 20:54

They are both lovely, but they sleep in the spare room, and the smell was not nice the other day. Once I've washed the sheets it'll be fine again but bleurgh.

prokupatuskrakedatus · 11/02/2016 20:56

The stench of cat poo - luckily Sev - and Felix before him - has his own bathroom.

And to wake up at four in the morning to bats flying around your bedroom.
(That was Felix).

And nearly breaking your neck, because that stupid animal (Felix and Sev) slaloms your legs whenever you try to go somewhere.

Lolimax · 11/02/2016 20:56

Having 2 five month old kittens who are desperate to go outside but despite being neutered, chipped and vaccinated have an owner who really really doesn't want them to.

Lolimax · 11/02/2016 20:59

And not being able to move because one is asleep one your lap, the other on your head even though your desperate for a pee and your legs have gone to sleep.

Lolimax he/she? is adorable Smile

Lolimax So true! Girl cat is curled up on my lap now, so obviously I can't move Grin

To the PP who said your cat stopped vomiting after your switched to high meat content food: interesting. Our two cats have always been on high meat content food and we've only had one vomit incident (which we think was probably a one off due to stress).

The best place for the litter tray is a utility room with a tiled floor if you have one. After trying various litters we've settled on Cats Best Oko Plus. It's biodegradable so you can flush the clumps down the loo if you want.

BertieBotts · 11/02/2016 21:07

Worst things for me: Poo, wee and sick. All occasional. Dead things... eh. Live things, sad but okay. Half devoured things, eh.

I miss having a cat!

Lolimax · 11/02/2016 21:08

The hills that's Tetley. Murphy is his equally naughty brother. This was him in his cleverly found box yesterday.

I love their names! The box is the perfect size for him

Too many hours spent in pubs lol!! Yes I love their names but I would as I thought of them. And they still haven't moved. And this 46 year old bladder needs a wee....

SpotOn · 11/02/2016 21:15

The dead mice. Although, once all the mice in the neighbourhood are annihilated I've had no problems....but we moved house a few times and each move brought dead mice to the front and back doors.

thehillshaveyes · 11/02/2016 21:17

I had a dead mouse at my back door earlier, a gift from the cat who lives across the road. He also uses my garden as his loo so I'm pretty much getting the downsides to having a cat without actually having one Grin

When they are tidy freaks and object to you you leaving an item of clothing on your bedroom floor by defecating on it.

As long as DH and I don't offend cat by doing this, we can get along well.

SpotOn · 11/02/2016 21:19

Cat vomit actually isn't that offensive. Cat poo is a special type of hell on earth.

NameChange30 · 11/02/2016 21:21

I think vom is worse than poo! I hate all vom, feline or human. Poo is ok apart from when it's on my bed.

SpotOn · 11/02/2016 21:21

Bum home in the face on a Sunday morning when you wanted a lie in.

BertieBotts · 11/02/2016 21:21

Ah but having your own cat is the perfect deterrent for other cats pooing in your garden!

readyforno2 · 11/02/2016 21:27

Worst thing.. Coming home from work to find the hall covered in feathers and a very proud looking feline licking his chops.
2nd worst thing.. The amount of space he takes up on my bed. Honestly, even when dh is away with work I find myself having to squeeze myself into a tiny corner whilst the King (dcat) stretches out over the rest of the bed.

readyforno2 · 11/02/2016 21:32

In fact.. He was asleep on my pillow the other night

Hopelass · 11/02/2016 21:33

Ready mine is the same. DP is away and DCat has decided to be diagonal across the bed. On my side. Angry

readyforno2 · 11/02/2016 21:42

It's infuriating isn't it?! Especially the looks you get if you accidentally disturb him.

Lolimax · 11/02/2016 21:42

Both lovely cats!
