CPL home check tomorrow

Hi all,

This subject has probably been done lots of times so apologies in advance. Got a home check tomorrow for an indoor cat who we haven't actually met yet. What should I expect to be looked at and what questions may I be asked?

So far I have answers to where the cat would eat and use litter tray, where it could have privacy in first few weeks, what vets I may sign up to, feeding schedule, what I'm going to buy etc. can anybody think of anything else?

Thank you

She's still snotty but seems more alert nowadays

Sounds better then.

MrsMoggy · 25/01/2016 20:43

She managed to wiggle under the stairgate (impressive at her size) and has legged it back under the blimin table downstairs. My fault for leaving door open. Luckily my sons in bed. Sure she will go back up later or when she hears him

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/01/2016 20:48

Well that's good, ill cats don't squeeze under the stair gate for a nosy.

MrsMoggy · 25/01/2016 20:55

I went into the kitchen and she tentatively followed me in to have a look ( first time in that part of house) then cried as think she felt a bit cornered as it's a long kitchen rather than wide so she's now ran back under the table. It's good to see her going about though

That's great! And she obviously feels a bit of something for you to follow you. I love these updates x

RoastChickenDinner · 25/01/2016 21:36

Me too MiddleClass! Even my Mum asks me 'how is that little cat getting on?' whenever I see her.

A bit more progress everyday MrsM.

Wordsaremything · 25/01/2016 22:41

This is progress- on her terms! You're doing so well. I know you're super -watchful anyway but do continue to take care over potential escape attempts, esp as she becomes more confident around the house.

I'm a veteran of this sort of thing and my recent foster boy got out the other night- I was in bits, but he came home.

I agree that this sweet little cat will very likely have a special bond with you op. They know when we love them.

ophiotaurus · 25/01/2016 22:44

Another lurker here. It sounds as though she's settling in a bit more. She's very sweet looking. I hope she is better soon.

Chaseywraith · 26/01/2016 06:33

I've been following your updates so pleased at the progress, she's such a pretty thing, you're doing a grand job.

Shriek · 26/01/2016 11:39

excellent progress report, she really sounds on the mend, and like Words says, it'll have to be like a fortress in your home until you know she's really settled. that must've been a huge worry Words for one you are fostering, so lucky it came back again! have you had this boy with you long?

MrsMoggy · 26/01/2016 23:37

Nothing to report today folks just pottering along at a steady pace. Been out most of day so not seen her much.

She's feeling more like my cat everyday, there's still going to be a long road ahead and she's not fully well yet but seeing glimmers of hope in there. She really does have a lovely face and her coat would be lovely if she could groom out her excess fur

Hi shriek roger the very long term lodger otherwise known as bath cat had been here for about three weeks when he escaped. So getting to the time when I might let him out but it's tricky at the back for cats as they have to jump down various places. My town is hilly. He got out of his room and out of a cat flap I could swear on my life I'd locked.

Convinced he'd gone forever. Beside myself. Rang for real enforcements.

He was found outside, having found his way to the front, washing his paws.

He's now in an out as he likes and has settled in better than any cat I've known - I currently have three others - all strong characters. He's decided he likes to sleep in the bath- ( cushion provided) . From there he can listen to me using the lavatory in polite silence, from behind the privacy of the shower curtain. It's a bit unsettling, but makes a change from the others, who like all cats I've ever lived with prefer to supervise my bathroom usage more blatantly.

In the morning I have my wee,and he chirrups and appears from behind the shower curtain to remind me it's breakfast time,

Anyway o p - moral of story, keep alert for escapes. Oh and cats are ace Smile

Wordsaremything · 26/01/2016 23:44

RealHmm enforcements?

Shriek · 27/01/2016 09:51

ha! words i have a dcat like this, actually perches on my lap for my morning wee! purring and making sure i head off in the right direction afterward!
yes, i wondered about 'real enforcements!' Grin not being a mainstream dcat person (although i have two) i wonder how you manage 4 that all get along? All fosters?

yes, dcats are so good at getting out, and opening locked cat-flaps that now OPs is recovering its one to really watch for.

MrsMoggy · 27/01/2016 11:54

She's an indoor cat so there will be no cat flaps or anything. Windows never open as house is on the cold side as not much natural light coming in. There's corridors and two doors between front and back door and other rooms so she will find it pretty hard to get out, but vigilant either way

MrsMoggy · 27/01/2016 19:50

She's currently snoring away under the table. Eaten all her medicated food this evening. She's found a new favourite spot near the heater wedged between sofa and window in the tiniest space. She's finally been having a bit of a groom today so she's shedding everywhere!

She let my 3 year old approach and stroke her today so he was happy. He's been really good with her

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/01/2016 19:59

Hopefully she's feeling better. Grooming a a good sign. Is she seeing the vet again?.

RoastChickenDinner · 27/01/2016 19:59

Oh that is great progress, I am so pleased for you, xx.

MrsMoggy · 27/01/2016 20:05

fluffy she will go back to the vets in a few weeks as she still needs chipping and to be checked she's spayed. This will have to be at the vets further away as supposed to be funded by the rescue. She still has a week left on the antibiotics yet so nothing can be done yet. Then she will have to be booked in at our local vet to begin vaccinations and what not.

So a good week yet before I will be making any further moves.

OP posts:
SunsetDream · 27/01/2016 20:22

Are the rescue not paying for vaccinations? I'm so annoyed that the rescue let her out before chipping her and finding out whether she's neutered! (unless it was agreed with you, I can't remember now).

I'm so glad that things are starting to become more positive!

MrsMoggy · 27/01/2016 20:30

No they aren't paying for vaccinations. She came to them with no vaccination card so the vet has to presume she's not even had primaries. I wasn't told about this until I rang the rescue after we'd had her home for 4 days or it would have put me off taking her on as it's
Gonna leave me out of pocket. As it is it will have to wait a while until the chipping and stuff is done first and I get the money together

OP posts:
MrsMoggy · 27/01/2016 20:32

And I thought she had been spayed (as told by the rescue) but then the vet said the huge excess skin on her stomach could be down to litters of kittens and as the rescue hadn't taken her to the vet we don't know so she will have to be checked when she's being chipped under sedation

OP posts:
SunsetDream · 27/01/2016 21:56

Wow they really should be named and shamed.

Our cat came with no vaccination record, the rescue still microchipped, vaccinated her and spayed her. I also got a month's free insurance..

Not that that makes any difference to your cat. I just hope it's one of those situations where you found your ideal cat against all odds.
