Hi all,

This subject has probably been done lots of times so apologies in advance. Got a home check tomorrow for an indoor cat who we haven't actually met yet. What should I expect to be looked at and what questions may I be asked?

So far I have answers to where the cat would eat and use litter tray, where it could have privacy in first few weeks, what vets I may sign up to, feeding schedule, what I'm going to buy etc. can anybody think of anything else?

Thank you

Don't know if this will work but here's a picture of her. She's cross with me because I had to put the igloo in the wash it was dirty. She's still sneezing a fair bit and snotty

You're doing so well with her Mrs M , especially as it's all new to you. Again, I apologise for my judgey remarks the other day. ( no need to acknowledge this post!)

I really think the rescue should be picking up the tab for the vet treatment, I really do. See what the vet recommends.

Wordsaremything · 23/01/2016 19:32

Just seen the pic- what a sweetie. Paws crossed for get.

Wordsaremything · 23/01/2016 19:33

Oh dear, that's one miserable looking girl. One of ours had flu but never got it again despite DM not bothering with boosters when they were older.

She's better off with you than in a rescue pen.

MiddleClassProblem · 23/01/2016 20:00

I look like that when I have flu too Sad

No wees in the igloo?

Bless her, she looks so sad.

I've been lurking on this thread and I just wanted to say I hope everything works out for you and her. You've been amazing with her Flowers

Shriek · 23/01/2016 21:42

oh she's lovely MrsMoggy thank you for posting a pic.

She looks a lot brighter than i'd expected and really clean looking too. Little on the paunchy (sp?) side, but not as fat as i'd imagined either.

I know she looks sad, but her eyes still look bright and clear and alert.

She won't be needing much to eat, so long as she's getting enough fluids.

keep up the amazing work Flowers

SunsetDream · 23/01/2016 21:47

Oh the poor thing Sad

She will begin to realise you are helping her. I'm glad she's not in a pen (but that may not help you xx)

crazycatguy · 23/01/2016 21:57

Ah you're doing so well with her! I'm fostering for CP and my current dcat was so ill when he came having been a stray. Six weeks on and he's starting to change in habit and personality. We don't release a sick cat ever, and we give new adopters 4 weeks insurance in case anything we or our vets don't encounter in our time with them.

Progression for some cats is instant. Sometimes it takes ages. Just like humans!

Vinorosso74 · 23/01/2016 23:09

Sounds like she's slowly coming around to you which is great. I hope she recovers soon and you see the real kitty behind that cute exterior.

RoastChickenDinner · 24/01/2016 10:35

She is lovely MrsMoggy, you are doing so well.

I am tempted to post a picture of me with the non-quite-flu to compare and contrast! I am feeling similarly sorry for myself!

MrsMoggy · 24/01/2016 17:51

Small update:

She ate all her food overnight which is an improvement as she'd just been picking at it previously. Went in this morning with her newly washed igloo, came back this afternoon and she hadn't gone back in, still huddled up in a corner. Hopefully she will go back in overnight as it's definitely her safe and comfy place.

She'd pooed overnight first time in few days so hopefully she's more comfortable. I also gave her a long stroke and she actually managed some purring! She wouldn't relax into it as much as she could but she seems to like her back rubbing as she purred constantly when I did it. First time I've ever heard her purr!

WOOHOO! She is definitely improving. Great that she has an appetite increase too

MrsMoggy · 24/01/2016 18:55

She won't approach me for contact though I have to go to her if you know what I mean. Previously id just been stroking her head and ears but it seems her backs the soft spot!

Have you tried just sitting in there and reading for an hour yet? It is a great way for her to get used to your presence in a calm, non invasive manner

MrsMoggy · 24/01/2016 19:10

Not had chance yet an hour without my 3 year old wanting me for something is rare lol

Maybe when is at nursery or DH is about you might get a go x

RoastChickenDinner · 25/01/2016 07:31

Purring is excellent progress, how fab. I reckon that when she is feeling better you will have a special bond, xx.

timtam23 · 25/01/2016 10:21

That's really excellent progress MrsM, being able to stroke her is a big step! She's a pretty cat too, lovely photo!

JanetWeb2812 · 25/01/2016 14:43

Couple of tricks I have used in the past. Get hold of an old cardi and allow your cat to sleep on it; then wear it whenever you initiate contact. The presence of her scent on you will be reassuring. And if you have something comfy you can lie on, try having a nap in the cat's room. It will reassure your new pet that you are not a threat.

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/01/2016 19:34

How is she?.

MrsMoggy · 25/01/2016 20:26

She's just made me laugh, I came into her room to sit with her a bit with the iPad, I obviously surprised her as she had half her bum sticking out of the cat tunnel we bought for her which she's not been in before. Anyway I left the door open behind me and the minute I sat down she rustled through the tunnel and trotted out of the door onto the landing as if to say I'm not being stuck with you haha
