Hi all,

This subject has probably been done lots of times so apologies in advance. Got a home check tomorrow for an indoor cat who we haven't actually met yet. What should I expect to be looked at and what questions may I be asked?

So far I have answers to where the cat would eat and use litter tray, where it could have privacy in first few weeks, what vets I may sign up to, feeding schedule, what I'm going to buy etc. can anybody think of anything else?

Thank you

This is all sounding great (apart from the extra expense), am so pleased to read the updates MrsM

MiddleClassProblem · 27/01/2016 22:19

Also your son sounds lovely and probably one of the best 3 yr olds she can live with. She's definitely coming out of her shell a little more each day.

MiddleClassProblem · 27/01/2016 22:19

Also livid about the rescue

FinestGrundyTurkey · 27/01/2016 22:21

I don't know how bad the sagging tummy is on yours but one of mine was spayed at 4-5 months - definitely no kittens! - & still has quite a dangling undercarriage.

Anyway I'm glad to hear it's sounding so much better now & really pleased your DS got some stroking in Smile It's a shame your rescue has been so inept but your girl has fallen on her feet with your family Flowers

My old girl cat had a very lowslung belly, because she gained weight and then lost it - I'd had her from a kitten and took her to be spayed, so she had definitely not had a litter!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 28/01/2016 08:57

Harry has a very saggy belly - it swings when he runs! He had it when he came to us so we've no idea of his history but it doesn't involve kittens!

When we adopted Harry the rescue said he was vaccinated but it turned out that he'd only had the first ones and he wasn't taken back for the second ones. By the time he came to us too much time had passed and we had to start from scratch. Luckily the vet only charged us for the first lot as there was some sort of vaccination amnesty at the time.

Olinguito · 28/01/2016 14:08

Another cat with a swinging dangly belly here - no kittens and has never been plump, just seems to be her natural shape.

MrsMoggy · 28/01/2016 14:19

Thanks for all the saggy tummy responses! She really waddles when she walks. Vet said either kittens or very overweight at some point. She's normally snoozing somewhere and still doesn't really come out when we are around so don't see her walking about much so hard to tell

My lovely mob has a belly flap. She had kittens at some point before she came to the RSPCA, and since we've has her she has gained and then lost weight. It swings when she trots.

AwkwardSquad · 28/01/2016 17:53

Mog! Not mob.

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/01/2016 18:58

Oddly our ex breeding queen had no flubber, our male who was nicknamed Garfield however....

AwkwardSquad · 28/01/2016 19:29

It's called a primordial pouch, according to google.

FinestGrundyTurkey · 28/01/2016 19:35

Pics here of my pouchy girl Smile They don't really show the full extent of it but she doesn't often present herself at this angle!
She's only just turned 2 & as I said, has had no kittens

Just realised she appears to have a carrying handle in the first one Grin

MiddleClassProblem · 28/01/2016 20:12

She knows her best angle lol. Also a carrier handle would be an amazingly useful! What a beauty x

FinestGrundyTurkey · 28/01/2016 20:47

Aw, thanks, MCP Smile she is a sweet thing (handle would be very useful though!)

Oh Poltercat is lovely - what a gorgeous colour (always wanted a grey one Smile)

His pouch is very similar to my one! (Well my cat's one, not mine)

MrsMoggy · 28/01/2016 22:30

Thank you for the pouch pics hers is just like it so puts my mind at ease.

I have just had the best half hour with her! Sat next to the table giving her a stroke, then she got up, had a good stretch then was butting me for more strokes and coming to me, let me give her dreamies and groomed in front of me, kept looking to check I was there! She looks so much better appearance wise too.

She's still not confident enough to come fully out but I am so chuffed!! She's been moving between upstairs and downstairs more freely though and in our presence so more progress! She's finally acting like an actual cat bless her

She loves you!

timtam23 · 28/01/2016 23:36

Wow she's really settling in now isn't she MrsM, all of your time & effort with her is starting to pay off. She must be feeling so much better Smile

PolterGoose, very gorgeous cat!

MrsMoggy, that's so lovely! Sounds like you are her favourite human in the world right now. And great that you now know she's a cat that enjoys a stroke (a still very much not ferral Grin)
