I'm getting a kitten today

I'm so excited. It's all been a bit last minute as we only found out yesterday and we are getting him today. A friend of ours has been let down twice with a home for her last Kitten so we said we would take it. We've not even seen him yet but I've been told he's just a standard black and white shorthair cat and is very good natured and already litter trained, has been wormed and frontlined. He's 13 weeks old in a couple of days.

I've just came off nightshift and instead of going to bed I'm heading out to buy supplies as we have nothing in. I'm thinking I will be needing a litter box, litter, bowls, food, catbed (although fully expect him not to sleep in it) some toys and some treats. Have I missed anything?

Sorry I'm not on to ask a question as such I just wanted to share my happy news.

PS - even in lbs it would stil be good going.

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/06/2015 13:29

I think the vet will have their scales set to kg. It's easier to work out anaesthetics and drugs in kg.

cozietoesie · 19/06/2015 13:43

It would normally be my automatic assumption, Fluffy but - 4.3 kg at 14 weeks? I'm not sure that even an NFC or Maine Coon would get near that.

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/06/2015 16:35

Maybe he was holding a housebrick.

Wow he weighs the same as my Burmese and they are almost a year. He's a beautiful boy. FILs cat is a giant ginger might and he's the loveliest softest cat. He's as big as a dog.

Moggy not might.

FannyFifer · 19/06/2015 18:34

I thought my cat was big,he weighs a stone at 1 year old, but that is gonna be a huge boy. Grin

Oops I read the card wrong - he's not 4.3 kg he's 2.5kg Blush - in my defence the handwriting is a bit scrappy and I had converted it to lbs before I typed so maybe that's why the 4 stuck in my head. (4lbs 6oz)

Oh and he's 13 weeks not 14 weeks.

Ha that's a bit more like it. Grin

Phew! I was about to steer you to a financial adviser re affording the future bill for groceries. Grin

PS - I added a week on from your first post - hence the 14. Smile

Oskar is adorable, and DH is clearly a fine man given your darling kitty's taste.

6cats3gingerkittens · 20/06/2015 00:20

Lucky you. He's very handsome.

Pumpkinette · 11/07/2015 11:45

Well a little update for you. We had Oskar back for his second round on injections today and he now weighs 3kg (just turned 17 weeks). So in 3 weeks he's gained 0.5 kg that's quite a lot isn't it?

He'll be a big boy from the sound of it - but at least no problems with his weight for neutering. (Is that to take place shortly?) You might have to keep a little eye on his intake in future times though. Smile

timtam23 · 11/07/2015 11:53

My vet said they estimate most kittens to be 100g at birth and then 100g weight gain per week when they are little. So 0.5 kg in 3 weeks doesn't sound too excessive if he is a big boy. My little stray was estimated at 8 weeks old from his first weigh-in but he gained a lot of weight once we'd taken him in, the vet thought he would turn out to be big & strong and he is now quite a big cat at 2 yrs old, probably 4.5-4.75kg (although nothing like Ragdoll/Maine Coon size)

Pumpkinette · 11/07/2015 12:04

Vet said to get him neutered at 6 months so we will wait until then.

She also said he has both his adult teeth (k9's) and his baby teeth which is quite unusual.

He has grown quite a bit but his head still looks too small for his body. His body is very long.

I just thought 0.5 kg in 3 weeks was a lot because if he keeps going at this rate he will be 4kg by 6 months.
