I have new furry babies!! (cute photos included)

friend took in a cat, which had kittens. Mommy cat rejected the babies (hissing at them, biting them etc) so I've taken in the kits. Theyre 8 weeks old.

Its been a while since I've had a kitten (usually take in rescues) so what do I need to know?

I have new furry babies!! (cute photos included)

Well they're sprawled out on the sofa like they own the place so I reckon you're doing fine.

You could peel a mouse I suppose

If Mom rejected them at 8 weeks that was her kicking them out into the big wide world, AdmiralC - entirely natural and gives her the opportunity to go out and party again. (Although she could have been doing that from shortly after birth so I hope her owner has had her neutered?)

Have they been to the vets for checks/shots/worming and fleaing yet? (In fact, have you identified a vet yet?)

Are they eating/drinking and using their tray OK?

(Sorry for all the questions.)

They're quite gorgeous.

She didnt want them from birth cozie, rejected the litter outright. Friend has kept them as long as possible and hand raised them but mom is getting really vicious towards them!! But I'm kinda glad cuz it means they can come live with us

moms been neutered now, the only reason friend found out she was pregnant was when they took her to be done and the vet said they couldn't!

We have a fab vets up the road, my poor boy who died recently was registered there and they're amazing! Got them booked in next week to be checked over!

They are scoffing their little socks off as we speak so no issues there!

Girlcat (well I THINK its a girl) seems a bit anxious and has peed on the floor in the corner a few times, but boycat is happily using the tray

Ah - Oneago's mother rejected him and his brother outright (and suffocated his sister, sadly) but the breeder managed to hand-raise the two boys although she said it took years off her life. They were fine although perhaps a little quieter than Siamese normally are. How many newborns did your friend have to deal with?

Sounds pretty OK so far. Girlcat should learn to pee in the tray from her bro although a little stability in her life will help. Maybe no bad thing to put an extra tray out now though? You're going to need one soon in any case.

PS - Remember to mentally add at least half an hour onto time set aside for the vet appointment because there will be Adoration Time required. (Going into a vet with one kitten is bad enough but going in with two.........)

There was three, but only two survived. Not sure whether number three was stillborn or mother killed it though, but sad either way.

Argh didnt factor in needing two trays!!! Will they not share then? I have a huggggeeee thing from before the boy got knocked over

Grown cats need (in theory) one per cat plus one if they're using them exclusively. (My own old boy has two and uses both.) Yours are only little as yet but will grow so quickly you'll turn around one day soon and think 'I have cats - and they can't get out until they're neutered at least and probably not until they're about 6 months old. (If they're to be allowed out.)

I'd get another one anyway. They're only cheap, won't stimulate any more from the kits and if Girlkitten is being a bit shy and tentative about tray use then an extra may help right away.

Some cats are happy to share trays. Mine are. Some cats are more fastidious, and don't like to crap when there's pee in it, even if it's their own.

Are their collars snap-off quick release ones? The elastic types can cause horrific injuries or death, if they get caught in them.

And just have to say, they're bloody beautiful! They look so chilled. They're clearly happy to have been adopted by you. Lucky kittens.

Ooh, and unlikely she'd have learned to pee/crap in her tray from mum-cat. Pop her in it after she's eaten. Or when she gets that faraway look in her eyes.

Yeah theyre quick release ones... They come off VERY easily as boycat has found! Hes taking much pleasure in pulling it off and bringing it to me in his mouth! I've only put them on so we can tell them apart as they are identical atm!
Shes had a few goes in the tray, but also some on the floor. Friend who they came from had started to train them, so I think it'll just need a bit of perseverance!
Like I say, its been a long time since I've had a tiny kit (about 15 years) so i think I might be expecting too much too soon like I do with dd all the time...i forget shes still a baby really

Their still very young, hopefully girl cat will learn from boy cat.

The vet will sex them when they have jabs. Or in the meantime furry balls may appear.

Which kind of confirms things.

One has definite balls, so in the meantime the other one is either a girl or a very fashionable boy sporting a pink collar!

I think girlcat has claimed me! either that or she really likes the laptop!!!

There only babies though, you've got a few weeks of this. Can you put them in the kitchen overnight instead with a box with a fleece in for a bed?.

I have no advice. RainbowCat is very old so I can't remember kittenhood.

The kitchen and lounge are one room...little fuzzballs have worked out how to get out of the kitchen now too!!! Clever sods!!!

Was it an actual fully-formed shit, or a pooey foot-print? My little Monsieur used to tread in his crap, then track it all about the place. Once they get used to their new surroundings and food, the crappy footprints should stop.

nope they were actual fully formed craps huff. As was the one that dd put her foot in on the sofa this morning and smeared everywhere... that was a joy to clean up!!!

Heres the boy sharing my coffee this morning (I didnt actually let him drink it! He just had a sniff) and the girl talking back to dd who was meowing at them!

No different from having a toddler then really!

fuzzballs have names! We have decided on baloo for the boy (because he has a b-lue collar) and jasmine for the girl to keep with the disney theme!

Theyve been spoilt today, the ex went and got them a huge cat tree thing (he was only meant to be returning the broken scratch post ) and loads of toys to keep them entertained!
