female kitten not a female kitten!

our new kitten has been with us since the beginning of december, the rescue place said she was female, plus she has been seen by the vet while there to be chipped and vaccinated. since coming to us she has also been to the vets a couple of times and had the second vaccination, so she is down on her vet records as being female.

i had suspicions the cat was male but dh and the dc's wouldn't believe me, anyway, today, cat was having a bit of a grooming session, and out poked a little pink thing! this has happened to us before, our last cat came to us as a female and had been wrongly sexed, but one trip to the vet confirmed he was male.

so, this time round, can so many have got it wrong? kitten is 4.5 months old.

I know that the odd one can be difficult to sex but could s/he be a hermaphodrite? One for the vet, I think. I guess s/he was due to be spayed shortly either way so a quick call to set up a prior appointment to discuss might be appropriate?

I must say that two on the trot seems a little excessive though. Have you had your local water tested recently? Hmm

a few years ago I got a I went to choose a cat at the SPCA. I chose Juliet, a 2 year old female...with huge testicles! I have no idea how that can happen, but neither the vet, the caretakers or the volonteers figured the sex right or noticed the very obvious mistake...

maybe give it a unisex name?

RubbishMantra · 11/01/2015 08:08

My thoughts were also hermaphrodite - after all if it can happen in humans...

Does s/he have testicles?

Qwebec, is your cat still named Juliet, or did you change it to Julian? Grin

cat definitely has what looks like furry balls! have spoken to the vet receptionist and have also managed to get a photo of cats bits, sounds daft but the kids are desperate to know if we need to change the cats name, it came from the rescue center with a girls name already. have emailed the pic to the vet office and they're going to take a look.

Do let us know - sounds fascinating. Although rather you than me to have to explain the ins and outs to the DCs - how old are they?

nipersvest · 12/01/2015 13:33

they're 13 and 9, they love the cat but a little disappointed if its not a girl as after having a boy for 17 years, we had rather got our heart set on a girl this time. i'm seeing it as an excuse to get another kitten though!

i would post the pic here for opinions but its a bit like cat porn as its rather graphic.

i spent 4 weeks calling my boy foster kitten wendy because the lady at the centre who has worked in rescue for over twenty years missed that wendy had pom poms lol he was black and fluffy though i wondered why he gave me funny looks every time i used his name

thecatneuterer · 12/01/2015 16:52

Post the pic!

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/01/2015 17:30

My cousin in laws cat was thought to be a girl until furry balls popped out.

nipersvest · 12/01/2015 18:09

ok, get ready for this, will ask for it to be deleted if it offends anyone, but girl or boy?

female kitten not a female kitten!

Boy Smile

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/01/2015 18:29

Boy.

Grin
RubbishMantra · 12/01/2015 18:40

How on earth did a vet decide he was female? Confused

JeffVaderRunsTheDeathStar · 12/01/2015 18:56

DP says definitely boy.

OldLadyKnows · 12/01/2015 18:57

Boy.

This happened with my first cat. Oh, yes, deffo female... until the little pink thing popped up... "Oh," said (biology graduate) bf, "that's her clitoris!"

It wasn't. Grin

On the plus side, neutering is cheaper.

nipersvest · 12/01/2015 19:30

so, meg needs a new name Grin

my brother suggested megatron, that way we can still call him meg if he's used to it.

0ellenbrody0 · 12/01/2015 19:56

My cat is called Meg, short for Megatron! She also started life as a boy, until the vet informed us otherwise!!

thecatneuterer · 12/01/2015 20:36

Boy. Lol at anyone being offended Grin

MedusaIsHavingaBadHairday · 12/01/2015 22:38

I've told this before but my Mum's neighbour's cat is called Bella. They named the cat before anyone noticed the furry balls....

Now known by everyone as 'Bella the Fella' Grin

GilbertBlytheWouldGetIt · 12/01/2015 22:48

Megatron is a fabulous name for a cat.

nipersvest · 12/01/2015 23:58

name ideas are, in addition to megatron Grin

peanut (as he's in possession of nuts Wink)
scampi (as before this kerfuffle my pet name for the cat was scampi as scamps about the house a lot)
vader (as he's black and ds is called luke)
salem (after the cat on sabrina the teenage witch)

OP posts:
HansieLove · 13/01/2015 00:13

I like Scampi. Peanuts is a joke about the cat, not his fault. Salem, witch, nah. Black cats have enough image problems.

We have a sixteen pound beautiful gray tuxedo male cat named Rosie. He was half grown when he showed up, didn't trust adults but loved three year old Henry. Henry named the cat Rosie. I should have had a clue he was male, he was already a big boy.

We kept the name Rosie. He is one great cat.

DubbyDubby · 13/01/2015 00:21

my cat is called scampi Smile and my other cat started off life as a female...then grew balls..I didn't bother changing his name

DubbyDubby · 13/01/2015 00:23

I do kind of wish I had a cat called Nigel however...I like the idea of shouting Nigel out the back door!

beautyfades · 13/01/2015 00:28

Ok sorry I know its childish, but is that how big a cats willy is?? Iv never seen one. It's tiny!
