female kitten not a female kitten!

our new kitten has been with us since the beginning of december, the rescue place said she was female, plus she has been seen by the vet while there to be chipped and vaccinated. since coming to us she has also been to the vets a couple of times and had the second vaccination, so she is down on her vet records as being female.

i had suspicions the cat was male but dh and the dc's wouldn't believe me, anyway, today, cat was having a bit of a grooming session, and out poked a little pink thing! this has happened to us before, our last cat came to us as a female and had been wrongly sexed, but one trip to the vet confirmed he was male.

so, this time round, can so many have got it wrong? kitten is 4.5 months old.

I had a friend who named his cat by sticking a pin in a random page in the phone book.

Brian. L. Figgis lived a long and happy life

it may get a little bigger when he's fully grown, he's only 4 and a half months old. looking at that picture i can't believe so many so called experts have managed to say this cat is female. as soon as we brought the cat home i said 'why has meg got furry balls?'.

Poor Meg x

Clobbered · 13/01/2015 00:53

I suppose it's just possible he was born with undescended testicles that have now dropped, hence the previous mis-identification?

Herman? (Geddit?)

Clobbered · 13/01/2015 00:54

PS Cat's willies are usually retracted, and not really visible. They only poke out when required, if you see what I mean...

Please can we have a photo of the other end of the kitten? Hoping his face is as cute as his willy! Grin

nipersvest · 13/01/2015 10:06

here you go, yep, he/she is very cute, although has since turned into stealth cat who attacks everything that moves Grin

I'd have said a boy from that face alone! Gorgeous kitten.

Aw, yes both ends very cute! Grin

late response but:
Juliet became Yorek, then Youri and finally Willy Brant. Took us about 2 years to find the right name.
I'm dreading having to name my futur children...

nipersvest · 28/01/2015 14:33

just to update, cat went to the vets yesterday and its official, meg is indeed a he. neutering has been done, so his furry balls are no more!

still not fully decided on a name, its either going to be scampi or a late entry from ds is kitkat.

Nearly exactly the same story here! My nephew found a very small cat in a sealed box in a ditch... I took it in. The local vet said it was a girl and pregnant. Cue me waiting and panicking about forthcoming kittens.

I had suspicions that the vet was wrong... But hey they're the professional? Took the cat back two weeks ago after no kittens showing and not only is he not pregnant... He's a he. That has been fun explaining to my autistic son Grin

Shock @ your vet CROW!

I'd be finding a different vet to perform his neuter. Otherwise they might remove his ears, having mistaken them for testicles.

nipersvest · 28/01/2015 21:42

omg, that's even worse than our case, that vet needs a bit of retraining!

OP posts:
GREYCROW · 29/01/2015 02:14

I know... He certainly won't be going back there for neutering!! Quite fond of his ears at this stage!

mathanxiety · 29/01/2015 02:52

If my own black cat had been a boy her name would have been Julio. Actually, she was Julio for a week Blush.

Qwebec · 29/01/2015 04:16

nipervest: kitkat is great.

with scampi you never know : what if he one day starts to smell? somecats are terrible farters! Grin

girliefriend · 29/01/2015 12:19

I think Dave is great name for a boy cat Grin

Can't believe the vet and rescue place can't accurately sex a kitten though Shock I am no expert but can see that he is a he Grin

Corygal · 01/02/2015 22:21

Such a beautiful boy! My Mr Cory has giant testicles and I am very fond of them (although others make crude remarks that raise an eyebrow in us both). You will love darling Meg all the more.

I would suggest a new vet might be in order when choosing any further pet.
