Just got back from work and found her on the small county road 50 feet from my house. Absolutely devastated. She was the most beautiful, friendly little thing. Just need some support from people who understand.

I'm sorry for your loss. She seemed very happy in the photos, it's obvious she loved you a lot Thanks

crazynanna · 09/04/2014 20:42

Sending much love and strength. Sad She was a real beauty Smile

patienceisvirtuous · 09/04/2014 20:46

:( she looks like a little sweetheart. Sorry for your loss x

Wishyouwould · 09/04/2014 20:55

So sorry for your loss OP, so sad for you Sad She was lovely x

itsnothingoriginal · 10/04/2014 14:30

Aww I'm so sorry. Must have been a horrible shock to find her Sad Sad

JonSnowKnowsNothing · 10/04/2014 14:50

Thank you, lovely people.
I went into work to get a few jobs done and everyone was lovely. I live on my own and am the school's "crazy cat spinster" so people were nice and knew how hard it had hit me. But then I drove past the spot where it happened and her blood is still all over the road. Sad
I'm just doing my best to focus on the happy life she led. In time I will get another cat (rescue) so Scabbers will have some company. He's a lovely little boy but he's not as sociable as Millie was. It was horrible sitting watching Masterchef without her sitting on my armrest, or tucked into the crook of my arm with her legs in the air like a furry baby!

It's such a crap thing to happen. Our little girl got hit by a car down the road - it was my worst nightmare. The house was so quiet without her following me around.

PipkinsPal · 10/04/2014 15:05

I'm so sorry. I know how devastated you must be. It happened to my darling Barnaby last November. Thanks for you.

Mignonette · 10/04/2014 15:43

I still miss my cat typing seven kinds of nonsense on Mumsnet as he walked across the keyboard mid post. Smile

They creep into your heart don't they? I am glad to hear you will one day get another rescue cat. I still cannot do it as I worry about it happening again. Silly of me really.

JonSnowKnowsNothing · 10/04/2014 15:48

I think I remember your thread, Mignonette - was your cat a Maine Coon? Apols if I'm wrong!
They do become such a part of you. I have moved her cushion out of the living room window and washed up her food bowl and put it away. Sad
It's a scary prospect, getting another, isnt it? Part of me feels tactless for even considering the next cat...but...even though this happened to Millie, I know i can give cats a good life in the countryside and there are so many cats who wake up in shelters every day with nobody to love them.

Oh I am so sorry to hear about little Millie, what a terrible shock Sad

We have a tortie and they have such great personalities. Millie looks gorgeous in the photos, she's definitely smiling in the second oneSmile I'm sure she had a wonderful life full of love.

clippityclop · 10/04/2014 15:51

So sorry for your loss. I know it's early days but how about, in time, planting a rose bush, blossom tree, bulbs, whatever your favourite is on her grave? Take care x

Mignonette · 10/04/2014 16:27

Hi Jon-

no Thomas was a white and black stray Mog but was not far off the size and heaviness of a Maine Coon.

You aren't being tactless as we all have different ways of managing and living with loss. Yes, cats have a wonderful life in the country and if I lived not on a busy road, I'd have goodness knows how many of the little beasties.

Thomas is buried on our allotment with a little Grave marker and flowers growing on it.

JonSnowKnowsNothing · 10/04/2014 17:40

Flowers is a nice idea, thank you. We buried her near the top of my garden steps where I sit with a coffee and read on nice sunny mornings. It wasn't intentionally there - we had to find a spot with soft soil - but it will be nice knowing she's nearby like she used to be.
Thanks Spring for being so nice about her - people always commented how funny looking she was, I thought she was beautiful!

So sorry. Thanks

JonSnowKnowsNothing · 10/04/2014 17:54

Agh, just to top things off, the ginger boy has come home with a HUGE tick attached to him, which I've managed to kill without pulling out - I was really yanking. Bloody hell!

sybilfaulty · 10/04/2014 18:21

So very sorry. I have a tortie too. They are so gorgeous. Take care.

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/04/2014 18:30

Oh, you need a tick remover in your cat first aid kit. Poor scabbers.

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/04/2014 18:30

That was meant to be "oh dear". Clearly I need more alcohol.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 10/04/2014 18:35

So sorry, she looks a lot like my tortie, they are so beautiful. I like the little butterscotch coloured patches. I'm glad you've found such a perfect resting place for her.

emmelinelucas · 10/04/2014 18:39

I loved my Tortie (Bambi) I inherited her when my friend, who was her owner died suddenly.
Torties aren't like other cats, they are naughty, headstrong and exceptionally intelligent. That is my experience, anyway.
My thoughts are with you for your loss. It is terrible to lose what you love.So young, as well Sad
Big (((hugs))) are sent to you, Jon.

talulahbelle · 10/04/2014 18:42

So sorry for your loss, they form a special place in your hearts, don't they? My tortie is a complete mentalist, she likes sleeping on my feet and biting them if I move.

When your ready, think of the excellent home your next cat will enjoy.

ThistledownAndCobweb · 10/04/2014 18:43

She was beautiful. I have to admit I hadn't appreciated how gorgeous torties are until my neighbour got one.
It sounds as if she had a lovely life with yiu, I'm so sorry for your loss.

escorpion · 10/04/2014 18:43

So sorry, glad you had someone there with you. It´s so hard loosing a pet when they are very much part of the family Thanks

Wordsaremything · 10/04/2014 19:58

What a strikingly beautiful cat Millie was, and so obviously loving and close to you. I am so sorry. I still mourn my first gorgeous boy, demolished by a car nearly 20 years ago. It's heartbreaking . Hugs and take care x
