Sad

The children are both in tears. Fucking knobbing neighbours and their free range dog.

Amy106 · 04/12/2013 07:15

That's really awful. Sad. So sorry for your family.

Longdistance · 04/12/2013 07:21

Oh no, sorry to hear this :(

This happened to one of my friends.

Sparklingbrook · 04/12/2013 07:22

I just can't imagine. Your poor DCs.

SecretSantaFix · 04/12/2013 07:23

I am so sorry. Can you report to the police?

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/12/2013 08:11

Oh no I'm really sorry, it's not the first time I've heard of it on here.

Could the police do anything? I mean most dogs will chase a cat but out of play not out of aggression.

onepieceoflollipop · 04/12/2013 08:17

Really sad for you and your family. What is/was neighbour's reaction?

BananaNotPeelingWell · 04/12/2013 08:20
Sad
NorthernLebkuchen · 04/12/2013 08:23

How hideous. What are the neighbours saying? Where did this happen?

NandH · 04/12/2013 09:53

Soo sorry :(

Last year our cat was attacked by our neighbours horrid German shepard, poor things back end was paralysed and we had to have her put to sleep... although the neighbours thought everything was fine after they offered to pay for her to be put to sleep....knobs

Maybe it may help to have some sort of little cat party for the dc to celebrate the cats life? Obviously I don't mean invite loads of cats around, I mean dc dress up as cats, play cat and mouse? Make cat shaped cookies??

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/12/2013 09:54

Report to police. Their property has destroyed your property.

Queen0fFlamingEverything · 04/12/2013 12:06

Turns out it wasn't the knob neighbours with the knob dog, there was confusion due to two neighbours having same name. It was the nice neighbours who are devastated and are responsible dog owners whose dog has no history of doing anything like it before. So we won't be calling the police on them. Still very very upset. Pass lovely cat, she must have been so scared Sad

It doesn't make any difference, it's the downside of owning an animal that roams wild and free and that you are not held responsible for.
Unless the dog entered your property, I don't think there's a law that protects cats. Sad
Poor little beastie, I hope it was quick.

timtam23 · 04/12/2013 21:00

I am so sorry Sad

VenusDeWillendorf · 05/12/2013 16:48

If its any consolation, their dog insurance will cover the costs associated with the death of your animal. Animals are insured for up to a claim of half a million quid, in case of such instances. Ask them stump up to replace your cat and for any treatment your cat needed, or any trauma care you all need.

Also, they might want to think about pts their dog, as it has now shown aggression..

I'm so sorry to hear about your poor little kit.

Kendodd · 05/12/2013 17:01

My dog is lovely, the friendliest, softest thing you can imagine, you should see the why she lets the children treat her.

But... she is a Jack Russell. She will chase, and kill if she can, anything small and furry, including cats. I had a neighbour with two cats (she was only there a short time) her cats were not scared of dogs and kept coming into our garden, even into the house once. Our dog was just beside herself trying to get them. The one time one of them came into the house (I was out) the dog tried to attack it, luckily the cat managed to jam itself behind a chest of draws and the dog couldn't get it. The cat shat all over the floor behind there, but the poor cat was fighting for it's life. Luckily I came home and the cat was unhurt, dog had scratched up face though (serves her right).

My neighbour and I spoke about what we could do to keep their cats out of my garden and keep them safe, but couldn't come up with any solutions apart from only letting our dog into our garden on a lead which we both agreed didn't seem right.

I'm really sorry for your loss I had a cat and know how sad you must feel, I don't know what you can do though.

cq · 05/12/2013 17:13

Venus - not all dog owners have insurance.

A dog showing aggression towards a cat is, sadly, not uncommon and you cannot expect the owners to have the dog pts for this. It's an instinct they cannot overcome.

One of my dogs would kill a cat if she could. This is why I am currently paying a shitload of money to have my new garden fully enclosed with 6 foot fencing and gates. Bloody dog. But I couldn't bear to be the one whose dog killed those poor children's kitty. As a responsible owner I cannot just dump the dog - or have her pts.

But even my 6 foot fencing won't stop cats coming into my garden - I hope they manage to get back over it quick sharp.

Queen I'm so sorry for your loss and hope the grief eases soon for your little ones.

notapizzaeater · 05/12/2013 17:18

That's awful, so scary.

As a dog and cat owner I'd be mortified if my dog had done this.

Floralnomad · 05/12/2013 17:21

TheBunsOfPanettone · 05/12/2013 23:58

How horrible, poor little cat. Oodles of sympathy to you and your family.

WTFwasthat · 06/12/2013 20:13

OMG! Noooooo! How horrible for you all. I feel your pain as our beautiful cat was run over and died as a result of her injuries yesterday. It is so dreadful, telling the children. It is so hard losing a pet especially when it is not from natural causes. My heart goes out to you all. so sorry Sad
