I am worrying about my cat again [sad].

She just took ages to get half up to then settle down and didn't seem to know what to do with her front right paw. Then after a minute she got down off the sofa and went out of the room.

She is 16. Her kidneys are failing, she has arthritis and has hypoestesias. She is on 4 tablets a day and special food. I am taking her for an extra check up this evening as she wasn't very well at all last week and had lost weight. She looks like she might have lost more Sad.

The vet said we are not at that point yet but part of me worries we are but he doesn't want to say as he knows how potty I am about her. She did play a bit yesterday though and is eating the new food we had to buy her after refusing to eat anything else.

She didn't like it!

She took a while to look and then moved to face the other way!!

She's probably been traumatised by Hitchcock's The Birds. Can't say I blame her really.

TheOriginalFAB · 28/11/2011 21:04

I sat on her by mistake and she has left the room now [oops]. I didn't sit on her with my full weight and I think she was being a bit precious Grin.

Shock

I just heard a most horrific noise and it was FABCat crying and being scared. I was all brave and went to look and there was another cat peering in through our patio doors Shock. Poor FABCat.

I have cuddled her and she is sat with daddy now. She knows the time and knows it is nearly biscuit time.

Oh, poor thing. Get your dh to pee round the territory and that will keep it away.

TheOriginalFAB · 28/11/2011 21:20

I told him and he just laughed Hmm. He had a similar response when I asked if we could put a sign up saying no cats allowed. He won't do it and wants to know why I can't do it. Doesn't he know I am a lady??

Oh poor FABcat! Lots of TLC. And a water pistol for the intruder! Grin

Oopscat went to the vet today, she drew blood to check his thyroid as his heart rate was 'through the roof' (250 but I don't know the normal rate for cats!). She also felt a lump in his abdomen, and he's had a touch of diarrhoea. Sad. He is on antibiotics now and we're waiting for the test results.

He was all over me in the vets, wanting to be held, hiding his face in my coat, but since we got home he has solidly ignored me (except when I was cooking dinner when he was begging at my feet Grin).

Jux · 28/11/2011 23:33

Ah, you have been Naughty Mummy, oops, and are being punished!

FAB, tell your dh that you need to have male hormones in the pee for it to work ('tis true); also, tell him that 10 years ago my dh did it when our old tom died 10 years ago leaving 2 elderly and defenceless furry ladies alone. The toms in the area converged on our little flat, so dh peed on the back doorstep and over the course of the next week 'toured' the boundary and left his mark... Grin

If my dh can do it, then so can yours! (dare I issue a challenge?)

Sadly, yours won't cut it.

Jux · 28/11/2011 23:34

(that last sentence referred to your pee, not your dh!)

TheOriginalFAB · 29/11/2011 07:57

If the cat comes again I will make him do it. I will not have FABCat stressed out when she is so old and ill. She has another illness which means she really shouldn't have any stress and I need to remind DH of that. So far she hasn't eaten and looked like she was thinking of weeing on the carpet so need to keep an eye on her.

Blood tests for FABCat on Saturday. I am hoping the fact that she hasn't lost any weight in a year, or since she was diagnosed with her kidneys starting to fail, will be a good sign. We have been told that once her levels start to drop we have 3 months left with her.

OP posts:
Jux · 02/12/2011 18:49

Fingers crossed for tomorrow, FAB.

TheOriginalFAB · 02/12/2011 18:58

Thank you. I am so worried I am going to lose her soon and just won't be able to deal with it.

SadSad.

Just sobbed all over dh and had tears at the vet.

FABCat has lost a bit of weight for the second week in a row.
She has cystitis and diluted wee.
She has an anti inflammatary injection and a pain relief one for her legs.
She has had blood taken and I will get the results this afternoon.
I have booked an appointment for her fourth pain killing injection but no idea if she will get it.

I needed another Christmas with her.

SadSadSad

What is going to be kindest to her, FAB, my love?

TheOriginalFAB · 03/12/2011 15:02

I am not going to keep her alive just to get another Christmas, we will just give her presents early if that is the situation we are in.

I haven't heard from the vet yet and FABCat is having a walk around.

Until we get the results it is carry on as normal but with what the vet said it could be sooner rather than later.

The vet initially said with the injections she could deteriorate quickly but then said not when I asked so I am Confused.

OP posts:
Jux · 03/12/2011 15:43

Mmmm, yes, it's not helpful when experts give conflicting advice; doesn't make anything easier.

I know you wouldn't keep her going no matter what, just to get another Christmas with her Smile.

Oh FAB, I don't know what to say. I will be here, and I'm sure others will too.

TheOriginalFAB · 03/12/2011 15:49

Thank you.[weak smile]

FABCat has gone back downstairs. I wanted to put her on the bed with me but didn't want her to have to jump off if she didn't want to be there so left her on the landing. I have already made DH agree she can spend her last night on our bed but she will probably prefer to stay on the sofa. She has a lovely cosy bed if she prefers that.

My MIL Is making her Christmas present tonight so she can have it tomorrow and is making her two, one in normal colours and on in Christmas colours.

Just composing a shopping list in my head of all the things she likes but isn't normally allowed. (prawns, banana milk, rice pudding, chips).

Jux · 03/12/2011 19:51

Cold peas? (We had one once who loved them.)

Did you get the blood test results?

TheOriginalFAB · 03/12/2011 19:59

She hasn't eaten peas before afaik.

No, the vet didn't ring. I hope we will know on Monday though there is still a tiny chance that someone will ring tonight.

OP posts:
TheOriginalFAB · 04/12/2011 08:56

FABCat has drunk a lot of water overnight.

OP posts:
TheOriginalFAB · 04/12/2011 20:14

FABCat has had a Christmas present early today SmileSad.

She looks tired Sad.

OP posts:
oopslateagain · 04/12/2011 22:12

Oh FAB, I haven't been online for a few days.

I am hoping and praying for good news for you tomorrow.

I know FABCat has had a lovely, happy life with you.

Have a very un-MN .

Sad
TheOriginalFAB · 05/12/2011 18:27

The vet hasn't rung! I am too scared to ring.

I think if I don't hear by tomorrow afternoon I will have to rung, won't I? TBH I was a bit surprised when the vet said the results would be back that afternoon, don't they normally take longer? My usual vet has phoned at 7.30pm before so there is still a chance he will ring tonight.

She has had a lovely quiet day as DH and I went Christmas shopping once the kids were in school and didn't get back until after 1pm.

She hadn't eaten her breakfast Sad but has had some tea and her treats from her advent calendar Xmas Grin.

OP posts:
Jux · 05/12/2011 23:49

Do you make cat advent calendars? I think you might be onto something, there. Grin Take the idea to Sir Alan!

You poor thing, having to wait for the vet, it's really hard. Yes, you will have to ring tomorrow if he hasn't rung... Gird your loins, you can do it.
