She just took ages to get half up to then settle down and didn't seem to know what to do with her front right paw. Then after a minute she got down off the sofa and went out of the room.

She is 16. Her kidneys are failing, she has arthritis and has hypoestesias. She is on 4 tablets a day and special food. I am taking her for an extra check up this evening as she wasn't very well at all last week and had lost weight. She looks like she might have lost more Sad.

The vet said we are not at that point yet but part of me worries we are but he doesn't want to say as he knows how potty I am about her. She did play a bit yesterday though and is eating the new food we had to buy her after refusing to eat anything else.

No no, she loves you all the time , honest, it's just that thousands of years of the symbiotic relationship between cats & humans has taught them that they must show due gratitude for what they are about to receive. It stems from ancient times and the 7 plagues of Egypt during the famine years predicted by Joseph (of technicolour dream coat fame - he never had one by the way) when cats were worshipped and were given a portion of whatever every household had despite the people starving. The Goddess Bast recommended to the cats that they would pre-empt any resentment felt by rubbing around people's legs and purring. No cat had purred as they do now before then.

She doesn't love daddy this morning as she has left the food he gave her Hmm. Does she not realise what we are giving her is a lot nicer than what she should be having?

HAve you tried chopping up a mouse for her Grin

Jux · 05/07/2011 20:57

Cats are fickle creatures.....

5inthebed, they sell 'pinkies' (frozen baby mice) for consumption by snakes. FAB, have you thought about this possibility? I think you can get them on interwebs delivered right to your door; can't be any worse than handling a very small chicken.

TheOriginalFAB · 06/07/2011 08:00

My cat isn't eating a mouse !!Shock. No way could I handle one anyway. She is due back at the vet's in about 3 weeks.

Bet she has eaten mouse, and bird and fledgling, in the past though Wink

I often wonder why they don't make mouse flavoured cat food. It seems a bit weird that they don't, as it is one of their natural prey.

You could try a vole, though. You'd have to catch it first..... Grin

TheOriginalFAB · 06/07/2011 12:09

Not my cat. She only eats proper human chicken or poncy cat food Grin.

Just got told off by the vet receptionist as we have run out of tablets. DH's fault as he does the morning shift.

I, on the other hand, have started eating mouse...... Grin

I must be daft. FabCat just tried to jump up on the sofa and missed with her back legs. I was all worried and stroked her, asking if she was okay. She bit me Hmm.

Charming creatures aren't they? That was to punish you for noticing.Grin

TheOriginalFAB · 10/07/2011 15:33

I know! She isn't bothered with me now that I am poorly Hmm.

Ours have their noses out of joint because dd has just got a bearded dragon.

Jux · 10/07/2011 18:45

Sorry, FAB, hope you get better soon. (Hope it's not serious.)

TheOriginalFAB · 10/07/2011 18:56

Oh you poor thing; it's horrible. Not had it, but mum did, and she said it was ghastly.

Does FABcat not cuddle up on the bed with you? That's the bit I enjoy most about being ill, the cats coming and visiting and then fighting across the bed....

TheOriginalFAB · 11/07/2011 08:31

She never goes on my bed. Even if I put her on she jumps off. She was always allowed to sleep on my bed until the day I found out I was expecting and she has been bought lots of lovely beds. She has never been a lap cat really. When she was tiny she would sleep on my pillow at night or in a tissue box in the day. Once I lost her and was going frantic as she was tiny. I eventually found her under the duvet with her head on my pillow Grin.

Pets huh? Can't live with 'em, can't .....

TheOriginalFAB · 14/07/2011 16:44

H picked up the kids as I had a hospital appointment and it wasn't great so I went shopping. Got hack about 15 minutes ago and she was waiting on the drive even though DH had already let her in and fed her. She just came to sit with me and her back legs gave way a bit as she tried to sit down Sad.

10 days later and she is still falling over now and then Sad. When she gets up after being curled up asleep she sometimes gets her back legs in a tangle and seems to forget how to sort herself out.

Tuesday is the vet's appointment and I am dreading it tbh. She isn't even eating much of her normal food now, drinking lots of water and she will be having blood tests on Tuesday morning.

Lost this thread, it fell off my TIO list.

Well, she's getting on a bit isn't she. You stiffen up, bits go to sleep; happens to me and dh all the time. If I've been MNing for instance, for any
Length of time, I can barely move at first.

Fingers crossed for Tuesday, FAB.

TheOriginalFAB · 24/07/2011 21:04

Thanks. I am still in a lot of denial tbh.

OP posts:
Jux · 25/07/2011 20:20

What are you denying? Her age? Her infirmity? Her prognosis? Her quality of life?
