I've noticed whenever hiking comes up as a general chat subject, loads of people jump in to say how much they love it. I thought there might be a general thread somewhere on this as I'd love to chat with people who walk regularly but couldn't find one.

Would anyone like to join me? I live down on the South Coast so am lucky that there are some gorgeous places for me to walk - the New Forest, South Downs and further up the coast in both directions. I normally manage a couple of decent walks a week, depending on DC's care pattern, as well as trying to get out for the occasional hour or so on other days. I mainly walk alone but do have a friend who joins me on occasion.

I'm quite a novice as only really started walking in February of this year and the furthest I've walked is just over 20k, but I'm finding it so liberating - I feel like a different woman after a walk, my mind is free and my body feels tired but satisfied, if that makes sense?

Would just be nice to have a friendly chat with like-minded bods. And perhaps share some photos - helps the weather is beautiful at the moment but I'm struck every time I'm out, just how beautiful our country is - even when I'm wandering in the inner city. Here's a couple of pictures from my Friday walk - a stunning church in a village in the middle of nowhere and some great graffiti on the side of a motorway underpass 😃

Well it was a beautiful day in the South West so I went on a very convoluted route to deliver something which took me pretty much all around the rural edge of my town. 13km in total and very peaceful.

The light is so low though.

Oh lovely

Im trying to think where we can go this weekend that won't be totally waterlogged

Lonelycrab · 18/11/2022 18:59

Well hope you get out somewhere Midge. It’s been dry here today and looking like tmro, so will get out with ds myself and try to stick to more surfaced paths if possible.

Lonelycrab · 19/11/2022 16:32

Well the weather held and around 1pm tge sun even came out, so we headed up to Caesars camp just above Aldershot, for a couple of hours, covered about 8k with a few sit downs. Was actually surprisingly warm still, and not too bad for mud. Took a few pics in the autumn sunset:

My hike today was meant to have beautiful views over the countryside but the fog came in, followed by icy rain. Oh well!

Lonelycrab- great autumnal light. Shame about your weather rifling

midgetastic · 20/11/2022 09:27

I'd never take a 6 person tent on a walk and I'd never camp in a large group except in formal campsites reached by car/ public transport

Lonelycrab · 20/11/2022 09:33

Spooky pic, rifling!

Fog I could probably cope with, icy rain I’m not so sure…

midgetastic · 20/11/2022 16:13

We went to the beach - lovely day

Thank you all so much for keeping the thread alive... I've been really off my game the last few weeks due to weather and house stuff (and drunken nights out which are normally few and far between!)

Two weeks until we move and I can then get back into it again but until then - packing boxes and tip trips will be my life!

Loving all your photos! I love the Autumn atmosphere in them all... hopefully be able to start some nice wintry ones soon!

Are you moving far ? We spent nearly a year mostly pacing the streets of our new town !

And good luck with the move - stressful time I guess

Just to the other side of the city - so same but so very different... but new stomping ground and not too far from the Solent coastline so could be worse!

@SanFranBear good luck with the move, I hope everything goes smoothly and you are very happy in your new home.

I've been managing between 3 and 4 miles before work every morning but the rain is getting a bit much now. This morning was the first time I didn't get soaked. Mind you, whilst I'm not exactly leaping out of bed at 6am, I do love watching the world wake up in the morning and how the light changes. The Autumn colours are amazing too.
I had a lovely walk around Farley Mount in Winchester last week too. I definitely want to go back and explore more, it was beautiful.

SanFranBear · 24/11/2022 19:54

Oooh - Farley Mount is surrounded by stunning countryside, Underground... so very British! I'm hoping to get out on Saturday morning so I can finally get a daylight walk in and I may well head that way - feel the need for some hills and views after trudging the city streets the last few weeks.

Then back to the packing 😄 Thanks for your kind thoughts!

You inspired me, Underground, and I got myself out for a 15k from Crabs Wood, up and round Farley Mount and back again. Perfect autumn day for it - a little nip in the air but dry and not too muddy! Lots of gorgeous leaves to trudge through and I feel soooo much better for it! Dark, city walks are wearing a bit thin as good as it is to at least be getting out....

Hope everyone else has a lovely weekend, doing something which makes you happy!

Just lovely. The light is crazy. I had a short walk at Corfe Castle this weekend. I definitely need to return.

I managed some walking this weekend. My hill fitness is still quite crap after injuring my back so I'm trying to see this as worthy of celebration.
I've got a light head torch so I can still go on walks with it getting dark at 3 ish.

SanFranBear · 29/12/2022 18:55

Goodness, I'm sorry for letting the thread die a little... its been a crazy month for me with my house move and various teething problems as well as DC and cat sickness... argh!

But I've made a point to get out twice this week.. no pictures from the one up and round the bottom of the South Downs (started in plenty of time but it was dark early!) but did see some random heads in a park near my new house with my brother as well as a backyard horse, just in the middle of the city...

Really looking forward to the lightning of the skies so I can get back out there. I got a book of walks for Xmas from my friend who often walks with me so looking forward to trying some of those!

I wish all of you a lovely start to your New Year x
