Does your dog wear clothes?

I used to laugh at dogs with clothes, and the silly humans who spent money on dog clothes.
Now I have a short haired dog, who hates being cold, or rained on, and I am now that silly humans who buys sweaters and coats for their pup.
Anyone else find themselves getting their pup a new hoodie for fall?

Our 2 girls have a winter coat for walks when it's freezing or raining but they don't wear indoor clothes because they have fur coats.

No, they're a dog not a doll

I keep trying to persuade the Patterdale to wear a coat in winter. She's VERY close coated (and mostly bald underneath), she's no spring chicken and she needs another layer. But will the bugger listen? If I put a trial coat on she just buckles at the knees and refuses to walk.

So I've told her she can bloody freeze and see if I care.

I laughed at this.

It reminded me of when I bought mine expensive Hills food. And being a Labrador of course him not eating it never even crossed my mind, so I bought the biggest bag.

He would not eat it. After 2 days of me coaxing and adding in a morsel, adding in extra chicken etc etc, he still didn't want to know. And then this is when I came out with this very line..

Now you can bloody starve, see if I care

😂

PS he did eat it eventually.... and didn't starve.

Yes.mine has yet to freeze to death. But I do get The Look when we're out for a walk and it's raining... Tough.

I have a Corgi. He's very judgy. He's also low slung which means he'll be in an Equafleece for the mud. The side eye will be epic.

Ours has a raincoat for when it’s pissing down outside.
Practical reasons no problem with but dressing up in silly clothes/pyjamas just simply for entertainment is a no. They’re a dog not a doll.

Mine has a brilliant waterproof coat that goes down to his ankles because he is a habitual fox poo roller and it’s easier to wash a coat than it is to scrub an unwilling dog!

He also has a hoodie for winter because our house gets a bit chilly and he has always been completely bald on his belly so he gets cold 🥶

We did used to get our dog a Christmas and Halloween outfit- and he had a furry lined doggy raincoat- he was very patient about it

Did no one else get carried away in this weeks Aldi Special Buys aisle? DPup now has a puffer jacket to wear to the pub for Sunday lunch. More practically, I also got him a rain coat. He also has a equafleece as he’s a cockapoo and takes hours to dry.

YeOldeGreyhound · 16/09/2026 20:08

Yes, she had various jumpers, PJs, and coats for walks.

I did see a corgi type dog out recently who was wearing a pink gingham dress. It was a warm day, so it served no purpose whatsoever.

Ddog is a, formerly, very fluffy, double coated breed. A few years ago, she would have refused to wear anything, and it wouldn’t have occurred to me to try. But she has alopecia now, and the fur on her body is very thin with virtually no undercoat at all. Her belly, bum, neck, and half her tail range from totally bald to patchy tufts. So she has an extensive wardrobe of fleeces, hoodies, scarves, sweatshirts with legs, onesie pyjamas, jumpers, raincoats, and T-shirts. Most either came from Vinted or I sewed them for her. All are practical and there’s definitely no bows or frills or denim (but there might be some dinosaur spikes down the back of one sweatshirt onesie). Her head and legs are still super fluffy, so I’m sure people judge me when they see her out on walks, but she freezes when it’s cold and hates the rain.

My two (harrier/bassetts) have coats which I only put on if it’s snowing as they hate wearing them

mondaytosunday · 16/09/2026 21:16

In of my dugs had alopecia and was virtually hairless on her back so she did have a sweater when going for walks in winter but I’d like to think they were tasteful and not silly dress up type!

My DS has a part-time job in Aldi and came home with the most ridiculous pink puffer coat for our dog last winter, but she only wore it once when her waterproof coat was still wet from her previous walk. I'd put it on her if it was really cold but I can't see her ever really needing it.
