What breed do you think my newly adopted dog might be

what breed do you think this dog is I got him Friday. tried to brush him but he's full of knots the family I got him off said they didn't have time to groom him due to working all day ( he's a right mess poor dog) he's going to the groomers tomorrow.looks like he may have to be shaved ☹️he's 19 months old.hes really good hasn't messed in the house once can't walk him untill he's been sorted out.

Looks like a maltese to me. Their fur is particularly bad for matting! I'd suggest keeping the coat short if you dont have time for daily brushing.

Do take him to the vet, OP (if you're not already thinking about it). Anyone who can let their dog get into that state probably hasn't been the best in terms of wider dog welfare given we all know what happens when a coat gets into that state! Poor thing.

Yeah sorry, I wasn't blaming you at all! Just a suggestion going forward. I have a Maltese mix and keep her short as she mats so easily when it's rainy outside!

I too thought Maltese or Malti X but you never know. Did the people you bought/got the dog from not tell you the breed? Did they not give you its vet record which will normally say the breed type?

You can get dog DNA tests, I used wisdom panel and it was accurate in terms of matching the parentage exactly with what I already knew.

So pleased he has a new home. The little you can actually see of his face reminds me of a Sandy coloured Cairn Terrier.

Won’t a groom be too traumatic if you have only had the dog four days?
Not too bad if it’s a regular occurrence but it sounds like that’s not the case.

they gave me his vets card he's up to date with jabs.they said he was mixed with a Yorkshire terrier? and something else I can't remember.now but I've asked them what breed he's mixed with.

Malti/ Yorkshire/ Skye terrier? Beautiful anyway. Congrats on your new family member ❤️

no the lady's totally ignored my msg but I'm sure she said he's got Yorkshire terrier. in him.🤷🏻‍♀️

going to the groomers Monday now as the other groomer cancelled on me three times.
