Saying goodbye to the Doghouse

BiteyDog became very ill a few days ago and quickly deteriorated so much that we had to let him go.

We were an active member many years ago when he came crashing into our life’s as a bitey puppy. Through many emergencies and illnesses we got him through them but not this time and we just knew it was time.

The vets were compassionate and lovely and we will be collecting his ashes and prints in about a week.

Haven’t been on here much in the past few years but maybe the oldies might remember him. As there will only be one BiteyDog I think I will be saying goodbye to this forum forever 😢

Awww sorry to hear that it’s so hard losing them.
Your grief is raw it’s like a physical pain isn’t it but maybe you could drop in now and again and the future just to look at pics and things of other people’s dogs it’s what I do. I miss mine so much I lost him in 2018 and still I can’t get another one, I doubt I ever will but get a fix seeing other peoples so maybe in time you’ll feel up to it and take some joy from it.

I’m so sorry for your loss Flowers

I'm so sorry for your loss, i remember reading some of your threads Flowers my old boy is 13 with mitral valve disease and I fear that day isn't far away for us either. I'm not sure how I'm going to function without him by my side... there is a huge design flaw with dogs that they live such short lives Sad

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 04/07/2026 12:15

So sorry to read this.

I think i recognise your name? We were possibly on the same puppy threads? In late 2020/early 2021?

We lost Georgiepup in January this year too.

Sening love.

BiteyShark · 04/07/2026 12:17

Thank you both. The house isn’t a home right now. I know we need to start new routines because for nearly 10 years our life has been shaped around BiteyDogs routine. I knew this time would come and just thankful we were able to stop his suffering quickly.

We got him in 2016 but the puppy years were hard and the adolescent years trying and I was on here a lot and gained so much from others going through the same battles. I knew he would be a great friend and he really was and will be really missed.

I’m so sorry about you losing BiteyDog, I can remember you getting him. It must be so, so hard Flowers

dennydan · 04/07/2026 12:50

Biteyshark I am so so sorry.

I am an oldie and have had many name changes over the years but remember when you got BiteyShark.

He had such a wonderful life with you and was such a lucky dog to have such caring owners who adapted to his needs.

Your words of wisdom wil be missed in The Doghouse.

I used to think that, until the realised how awful and uncertain their lives would be if I went first. That’s one thing the reasons I don’t have pets anymore. I’d a million times rather be sad and feel the pain of their loss than have me go first. But I live on my own so it’s different for others.

BiteyShark · 04/07/2026 12:58

Thank you all. So heartbroken right now but know it was his time as he was so ill so suddenly and it wasn’t like all the other emergencies and illnesses. I think he may have had a couple of brief seizures in the 24 hours he started to became ill and the last few hours he was just shutting down in mind and body. The vet we had was so good and I can’t fault them. We have given all his food and treats to a charity ( and my god we had loads ) so hopefully other dogs can benefit from me being a bit of a hoarder of dog stuff.

Oh no @BiteyShark I am so sorry. I remember you posting years and years ago (when I had a different name). RIP BiteyDog Flowers

I don’t think I have left the house so much as I have these past couple of days. The reminders of the routines I no longer have are brutally hard 😢

I feel your pain. I think it's fine to just exist as best you can do. At some point you'll feel that you can think more clearly.
We lost our darling poodle two days ago after a long illness. My routine was so interwoven with hers as she was diabetic. I don't know what to do with myself.
I retired a couple of years ago and have toyed with applying for part time jobs but couldn't leave her for more than a couple of hours and I wasn't prepared to give her any stress. She was my shadow.
I miss her terribly, we are heartbroken. I'm even having to go out when people come round as I just can't explain what happened yet without bawling.

BiteyShark · 06/07/2026 17:44

Yes existing is I think the only thing I can do at the moment. DH is finding it harder than me at the moment. I was always worried that something would happen when we were on holiday so to be there for him at the end does give me some comfort. I have asked for a nose print from the vets as he always sniffed my face in the morning 💕

I remember BiteyDog (though possibly I was posting under another name back then).

Losing a dog is just a horrible experience. Go easy on yourself.

Kadiofakit · 08/07/2026 10:12

I am so so sorry to hear this, I do remember you from when our dogs were puppies on the then puppy thread, I was under another name then and have an Irish Terrier same age, born 2017. So very sorry for your loss!!

SirChenjins · 08/07/2026 10:42

I'm really sorry to hear that - I'm sure I've seen your posts on the Doghouse. Sending you many sympathies Flowers

BiteyShark · 08/07/2026 14:59

I’ve just seen your thread and was going to post on it. It’s awful isn’t it. I am alternating between feeling relieved that I was there to end his suffering to feeling awful guilt that I didn’t know it was his time and thus didn’t have time to extra spoil him.

I think you said a bit of your soul had died and yes I think that sums it up 😢
