Very early morning dog walks?

Anyone else doing very early morning walks this week?
I just took my dog out at 5am. I think its all he's getting until tomorrow morning aside from access to the back garden!

We are between woods and a beach so we’re lucky. However, it was 5:45am yesterday for the mega walk and a shorter one in the evening, yesterday. Slightly later today.

Doofus hound isn't even getting an early morning walk here. He will be able to freely access the garden throughout the day but it was already approaching 20 degrees this morning when we got up and a few days without a walk won't hurt.

GreenFootstool · 24/06/2026 06:18

6am all week. It's 20c and glorious this morning.

Tomorrow maybe be a day off as it's not getting below 29 here tonight.

abracadabra1980 · 24/06/2026 06:26

We were up at 4am for a stretch in the garden as all restless. Air con on in bedroom. Now off to the beach. Have six marrowbones in the freezer for joyous munching throughout the next few days. Keeps them going for a hour then I wash, fill and refreeze with something less fattening like pureed mixed veg! Have an outdoor shower area so keeping them cool with regular hosing down. Landscaping our own pond at the moment which sadly won't be finished for the current heatwave. Enjoy everyone 🥵🐾🌻

Going out for an hour in five minutes. Then a stroll round the park after The Archers this evening. These early mornings are so pearly and beautiful.

Buildingthefuture · 24/06/2026 06:28

I got the leads out at 5am this morning and mine opened one eye, looked at me with disgust and went back to sleep! They are old though, so aren’t bothered when it’s really hot.

Joystir59 · 24/06/2026 06:30

Out at 7 for a romp around a shaded field near the beach. Romp around cool woods late afternoon. Access to garden all day. Water play etc.

WaitingForMojo · 24/06/2026 06:49

Out at 4am here. By 5.30am the beach was really busy. By 6, it was starting to get hot

NoWordForFluffy · 24/06/2026 06:55

We headed out just before 5.30, into the woods and around a playing field. It's slightly cooler this morning as it's misty. It was almost burned off by the time we got home.

He's tired as it's too hot to rest properly, so he brought me home after 45 minutes (he chooses the route!). DH will take him again at about 9 tonight. He's snoozing next to me on the sofa right now.

devildeepbluesea · 24/06/2026 07:05

Devil dog refuses to pee in the garden so I have to take him round the block every 4 hours or so. Aside from that we were out at 5.50am today.

last night we went out at 6pm but we have a lovely, full shade walk with 4 wallowing stops so he was absolutely fine. Normally we’d go around 1pm

TubeScreamer · 24/06/2026 07:16

I did this earlier in the week. Today the temperature was already 24 at 6am so there will be no walks happening.

PurpleCoo · 24/06/2026 07:52

I would hope all dog owners are doing early walks instead of walking in the 35+ heat!

My dog is so clever, he usually runs straight to the kitchen when I wake up for his breakfast, but he has gone straight to the front door since it's been really hot, as he doesn't want to miss out on his walk. He doesn't ask to walk at his usual time

Passingthrough123 · 24/06/2026 08:03

Went for a 15-minute sniff walk to the Common at the bottom of our road an hour ago in the bit where it's shaded by massive trees. It was 22 degrees. Then came home and we both stood in the dog's paddling pool for a few minutes! We have a Retriever and they're double coated, so she won't be moving off her cool mat for the rest of the day unless it's to be hosed down or go in the pool. She's not happy, she loves a big walk, but that's all she's getting.

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 24/06/2026 08:10

I’m not walking at all as my garden temperature was 26 at 6:00. Even my one year old struggled the other day at 23. A few days without a walk won’t kill them.

Saw too many dogs when I dropped DDs off at school for early practice being marched home in the heat at 6:30. Poor bastards.

SpanielsGalore · 24/06/2026 09:53

Only 17° here at the minute, with highs of 19° forecast. So I think we'll be safe no matter what time we venture out.

catslovehairties · 24/06/2026 20:01

It's not been too hot here until today so we've been fine with his usual 8am.

No walks tomorrow though as it'll be too hot even at 6am. He'll spend the day snoozing in various places round the house while I go and sweat my arse off doing drop-ins!

Whereabouts are you?

North Scotland.

Tel12 · 24/06/2026 20:13

I felt quite good this morning, out at half seven but everyone else seems to be out at dawn! It was 22c but short walk, partly wooded so we did ok. It's still 27c at 8 pm so that's it for today.

Pleasedontdothat · 24/06/2026 20:26

We’re in the northeast so it’s relatively cool here (still hideously hot though ..). We were out at the river by 6:30 this morning and it was glorious. Ddog refuses to poo in the garden so we’ll go out for a poo walk down the lane at about 9:30 tonight and probably do the same tomorrow. Two of the cats have stopped eating as it’s too hot but one of the others insists on curling up inside her cosy igloo bed 🤷‍♀️

Beachbodyready · 24/06/2026 20:36

I took my dog to the forest at 7pm because I assumed it would be cool from being shady all day. We stayed long enough for her to poo (she needs a little walk before she can go) and then jumped straight back into the air conditioned car and went to the air conditioned pet superstore so she could sniff round there instead.

She hates early mornings but often wants to go out late at night so I think we’ll go for a midnight paddle at the beach tonight. Last night we were out for an hour and it was bearable but today is so much hotter.

WutheringTights · 24/06/2026 21:50

I’m north west so it was 5.45am for a 2 hour walk in the woods this morning, including a swim in the river. He was barely panting on the way back so was fine. Nothing else though for the rest of the day as got up to 30 degrees later. Forecast says 21 degrees by 6am tomorrow so will be heading out around 5.30 for a slightly shorter walk and then nothing again except wee and poo pit stops in the (shady) garden.

lifeturnsonadime · 24/06/2026 22:10

2 and a half hour walk for my two at 6am this morning. Was 22 degrees when we got back.

Will see what it's like tomorrow but probably a shorter walk.

GreenFootstool · 24/06/2026 22:12

It's not due to get below 23 here overnight and it's currently supposedly 28 but feels like 31. It's ridiculously humid and the dog isn't enjoying it but she hasn't pooped all day so she needs the option at least! We'll be out early again tomorrow but not as far as usual.

HoraceCope · 25/06/2026 06:22

yesterday it was 5 am
at 8 am on the next walk it was already hot
i have missed it this morning but will go shortly
