Very early morning dog walks?

Anyone else doing very early morning walks this week?
I just took my dog out at 5am. I think its all he's getting until tomorrow morning aside from access to the back garden!

I’m fortunate to live 5 minute walk from the beach so she’s getting plenty of swimming at the moment.

We’ve just got back having spent an hour down there with her in the sea and we’ll go again tonight around 9pm

BravasPatatas · 25/06/2026 06:37

19 here currently so we’ll head about in about 20 mins, after my coffee.

NoWordForFluffy · 25/06/2026 06:58

It was much busier out and about early today. I saw loads more dogs than the rest of the week.

We got home at 6.30 after being out - mostly in the woods - for an hour.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 25/06/2026 07:00

6am and 9pm here

Tiddlywinks63 · 25/06/2026 07:07

5am for our two then that’s it.
The house isn’t too bad with fans on at floor level and cool pads.

HoraceCope · 25/06/2026 07:23

there was a lovely breeze but the sun was starting to be hot at 7 am

it was nicer out than in!

catslovehairties · 25/06/2026 07:25

It’s already 23 degrees here so ours won’t get a walk today - hates hot weather at the best of times.

Icannotremembermyusername · 25/06/2026 07:46

Ours is just going to the local woods with a river swim, air conditioned car and shaded completely. She will whine and grump if she doesn’t get out and won’t poop in the garden either. Too hot to walk around the block with her, so woods are the best option. Last night at 8 she had a quick scamper down to the stream in our field next door and stood in it for 10 minutes! Then raced back to me! I was worried as she was zooming around (she’s 5 not a pup) but no panting afterwards !! During the day she’s just lounging but will lay out in the full sun and come in panting like mad! Stupid dog!!! Treats in iced water and paddling pool too!

NoWordForFluffy · 25/06/2026 07:52

Ours won't poo in the garden either, so has to go out. Thankfully he will wee out there (the plant he wee'd to death isn't so thankful, mind you!).

Mine have enjoyed 6am walks in the past few days. We walk for only about 45 minutes on lead through our beautiful public gardens which the council have kindly left open ( usually shut overnight until around 8am). It’s been really lovely and people less frantic and busy and happy to have a little chat. I’ve noticed my dogs have also been less reactive than usual. It’s a city so there’s always people around but I’ve really enjoyed the early mornings and will continue this summer.

NoWordForFluffy · 25/06/2026 09:34

The only thing I've not enjoyed is that I get bitten by little beasties far more when I go out earlier. I'm covered in mozzie bites!

BridgetJonesV2 · 25/06/2026 09:35

My older boy is 13, so we're just doing gentle early walks between 5 and 6am and that's it for the day. The other one is 7 and dances round every time you move in the evening but it was just too stuffy even at 10pm last night. She had a major clip and drench under the hose last night instead.... she was not impressed!

JulietteHasAGun · 25/06/2026 09:36

I did a 7am walk. Walked for 5 mins through trees to a lake with a sandy beach where they swam for a bit and then back.

Serenity45 · 25/06/2026 10:59

We have a young healthy active girl (lab), so she's been having an off lead run / limited ball chasing in the park at 6am, then a calm down sniffy walk, home by 7am. Not been going out until midnight for a gentle sniff round the block before bed. Our garden is large and lots of shady bits and we have either wooden flooring or slate tiles everywhere downstairs so she can potter in and out as she likes during the day. Thought she'd be climbing the walls but has just been more snoozy than normal - we haven't even done too much enrichment / training time as she seems happy in herself as long as the frozen carrots and Kongs keep coming!

Theraininspainishere · 25/06/2026 11:04

My dog finished his walk at 9.45 this morning.
We were in shady woods, he was in and out of streams and ponds. He’s a long snouted breed with a single coat and I don’t throw balls/sticks for him when out and about generally. The odd crab apple or pine cone…..
He was absolutely fine and refused a drink afterwards.
We’re midlands.

Popplebeetle · 25/06/2026 11:51

We were out a couple of hours later this morning then yesterday morning and it was a couple of degrees warmer but it's much more breezy today and not as humid and it was noticeable that the dogs were much happier as a result.

Chaletwest · 25/06/2026 14:36

Usual time of 8am today, woodlands so didn’t feel uncomfortable.

cardibach · 25/06/2026 15:00

I volunteer walking dogs at a rescue. They’ve opened walking at 6.45 for most of this week and all dogs have been out and back by 8 at the latest due to a concerted volunteer effort. Just short walks. Today they only allowed walks up the shaded lane and all dogs were out by 7.15.

happythornback · 25/06/2026 15:02

It’s the lovely light late night and cool walks me and my dog are enjoying

ArabellaWeird · 25/06/2026 15:04

7am yesterday and today, noticeably warmer this morning. That's it for the rest of the day, free use of a paddling pool in a shady spot in the garden periodically and then he flops back down in front of a fan. A charmed life.
