Are these ticks?

I’ve just spotted these on my dog (sorry about the Willy shot) are they ticks? I’ve never seen one before I imagined they would be bigger?

No photo attached at the moment, but some are very small (couple of mm long if not fully of blood).

troppibambini6 · 19/06/2026 19:15

Not sure why photo hasn’t attached

Can you see little legs sticking out?

Bonsaibaby · 19/06/2026 19:40

This is one I pulled out. They’re kind of buried head first

troppibambini6 · 19/06/2026 19:46

Definitely no legs sticking out. It looks more warty to me… but they weren’t there a couple of days ago.

Yes that is a tick

Gillettegirl · 19/06/2026 19:47

It’s difficult to tell, but please check before trying to remove as my friend was trying to twist and pull off her dogs mole!

shewasjustawishx · 19/06/2026 19:49

Yes that’s a tick!

MaxandMeg · 19/06/2026 19:50

yes, ticks. You need to be careful not to pull the body away leaving the head buried as that can cause infections. I'm in a high tick area and get my dogs injected to repel ticks.

Lellamir · 19/06/2026 19:50

You can buy a multi pack of tick remover tools, cheaply, from Amazon.

I initially bought them, because there's a cat who 'lives' at the local park, and has them frequently.

My boy cat has had 3 so far, this year, despite never having bad one in the 3 years since I adopted them

I think it's an unusually 'ticky' year.

spaciallyunaware · 19/06/2026 19:50

Take care not to break when removing - use a tic remover to slide between the tick and the skin surface, rotate anti clockwise and it will disengage the mouthparts and you can then flush it. If the tick breaks and mouthparts get left behind they may get infected.

rv24 · 19/06/2026 19:51

Those don’t look like ticks, OP. Please don’t try and remove them 😬

troppibambini6 · 19/06/2026 19:52

Ok thank you…. Will order a tick remover.

OP posts:
Bonsaibaby · 19/06/2026 19:52

When you pull it out pull don’t twist. Pull firmly and slowly

troppibambini6 · 19/06/2026 19:52

Oh hang on maybe not then… maybe the vet on Monday to be sure?

Given their location are they nipples? We tried to pull one off our dog poor thing!

FoxRedPuppy · 19/06/2026 19:54

The thing in the tissue is a tick. The others look like his nipples!

Yes, it's hard to tell from a photo, but they're not necessarily ticks.

Bonsaibaby · 19/06/2026 19:55

You sure it’s not nipples!?

GreenDogDot · 19/06/2026 19:57

I thought the initial photo was nipply but the one in the tissue is definitely a tick, you can see its legs!

Trixibella · 19/06/2026 19:57

ideally your dog would be on something. Like Nexgard or Bravecto or Simparica Trio so that if he’s bitten by fleas or ticks they die.

If you’re walking your dog in grass and or rurally you should check them over as soon as you get home and get any live ones off before they bite.

Fleas are a right bastard to get rid of once their life cycle is embedded in your sofa I might add so it really is worth it. Plus your friends will loathe you if you take your dogs to theirs…

Tick bites are itchy and irritating for dogs even after the tick dies but a live tick just slurping away for the day is 100% best avoided for a hundred reasons.

That was my dog not op’s- for comparison

Gardenisablooming · 19/06/2026 19:58

Tomorrow they will look bigger if ticks.. Be warned out vet quoted £25 to remove 1 tick. Plus the £45 consultation fee..
Dh got a dab hand with the tick remove pdq..

Snoringdogsfarting · 19/06/2026 20:05

I’m agreeing with those who have said nipples. Please don’t try and pull them
off until someone who knows has a look .
