Dog walking shoes

stillchasingdereksheppard · 17/03/2026 19:08

I've lost two pairs of wellies to this winter. Both were expensive brands. One was hunter and the other regatta. The hunter ones split on the side and the heel detached from the regatta ones.
I use them for dog walking every day. I walk around 4 miles a day in them. Sometimes further on a weekend day.
I've tried Adidas walking / hiking shoes in the past but found them uncomfortable and rigid feeling.
Currently wearing some Timberland boots but they're old and don't have much life left in them.
Who can recommend something comfortable, durable and waterproof?
I live rurally so walks are woodland and heathland.
Thanks everyone.

Wellies - Dunlop and then a sheepskin insole insert from Amazon
Boots - Berghaus leather walking boots (with waterproof socks if exceptionally wet)

nutella8 · 17/03/2026 19:15

Boots: Scarpa Terra II gore-tex. unbelievably comfortable and built to last.

RodeoClown · 17/03/2026 19:19

Regatta stuff is all rubbish in my opinion and Hunter used to be decent years ago but not any more. I agree with the dunlops and sheepskin insoles. I’ve got some aigle (is that how you spell it) wellies and they are phenomenal. I can walk miles in them and I’ve had them for years.

SpanielsGalore · 17/03/2026 19:20

My wellies are Grubs Frostline 5.0 and my boots are Salomon Quest 4 GTX.

HappiestSleeping · 17/03/2026 19:21

Wellies - Le Chameau
Boots - Altberg Sneeker Lite

Neither are cheap, but the wellies have lasted over a year and I'm in them every day between 6 and 12 miles.

The Altbergs are British made, really comfy and very light, so don't make your legs tired. Waterproof, and as long as you look after them, they'll last you a decade or more.

BettyButterBum · 17/03/2026 19:27

My Peter Storm Caldbeck boots are still looking great and are still waterproof after their third winter. We walk approx. 3 hours a day in woods and fields. Grown up DDs were so impressed they got some too!

21ZIGGY · 17/03/2026 20:10

I love my lanx boots

VegQueen · 17/03/2026 20:54

I wear Grubs wellies. Not stylish but very good quality and keep your feet warm.

Dearg · 17/03/2026 20:58

I had just ordered a pair. So happy to read you rate them !

MrsMitford3 · 17/03/2026 21:00

Was coming on to say Blundstones.

Love mine, DD and Dsis also have and love and lots of other dog walkers in my area have now bought after liking mine! I need commission...

JulietteHasAGun · 17/03/2026 21:01

1st post nailed it with the Dunlop wellies recommendation. There’s a reason farmers wear them!

Silverbirchleaf · 18/03/2026 06:53

I have Jack Wolfskin walking shoes which are really good and I wear them every day.

Hellohah · 18/03/2026 06:57

I had Muck Boots wellies which lasted for 3 years but couldn't afford to replace them when they went, so have for Dunlop's now and they are fine. I wear them in the morning as don't walk far.

Merrell walking boots for the afternoon treks and they are amazingly comfy and waterproof.

Completely agree having tried many others.
i bought mine on Amazon, added a gel insole because they were a bit big and I am delighted with them. Less than £20, come in a variety of colours.

Le Chameau - comfortable and very warm (lined) although I’m sure you can get cheaper that are also good (Aldi doing some neoprene wellies this week!). I wouldn’t go back to unlined wellies now.

Notonthestairs · 18/03/2026 07:18

Scarps walking boots. Meindl waterproof trainers.

EdithStourton · 18/03/2026 08:57

Mostly Muckboot wellies - I can wear them all day, they require zero maintenance and are also warm.

Once it's less wet, I tend to wear a pair of waterproof Brashers (which, when polished, can be worn with jeans and look perfectly respectable).

I've also got a pair of Meindel walking boots, but hardly wear them since I got the Muckboots.

I have been fully converted to neoprene wellies! Also a dog walker. I love Muck Boots but there are cheaper brands..they will wear out too eventually, but my word are they comfy and warm!

stillchasingdereksheppard · 19/03/2026 07:38

I had looked at muck boots and lanx in the hope they'd last! And be comfortable.
At weekends I often walk and then do pub lunch or activity with the kids so something thet is also nice ISH would be good such as lanx.
We mud daddy the mud away before

Another vote for Le Chameau wellies.

Expensive but worth it, be sure to buy the neoprene lined model - jersey doesn’t cut it for warmth. They also come with a replacement guarantee for 2 years.

Didntask · 19/03/2026 07:43

I love my Dubarry Galways. Expensive, but mine have lasted 16 years, so cost per wear is fantastic.

Georgiepud · 19/03/2026 07:45

All my dog walking gear is Aigle.
I can thoroughly recommend.
