No point banning coffee, as it didn't work last time. 🙄
Haven't had any cake updates from a while. @VanGoSunflowers Have you stopped baking already? You still had 8 cakes to go to make it economical.

Ryde do quite a few different styles. Quite like this one.

SpanielsGalore · 28/11/2025 19:37

This is as close as I can find to P's. It looks the same except hers has two body straps. She was not impressed with me making her model it.

Needless to say, there isn't a size big enough for Brie 🙄

SpanielsGalore · 28/11/2025 19:57

Yes. None of them seem to have the two body straps anymore, but I don't suppose it matters. It has elastic loops to put round the hind legs to hold it down on windy days anyway.
I bought it for P when she had her first operation. She was doing 15/20 minutes on lead walks in January. And she was half naked as they shaved all of her back end, from half way along her back. 😢

@brushingboots Pupsy looks tiny that photo. Almost K sized. (I weighed her yesterday. She's 8.4kg. )

@CoubousAndTourmaIet Come on then. What's Brie's vital statistics? We'll find her a coat that fits. 😁

@SpanielsGalore

From the blurb,

‘.. Apart from the Underbelly & Greyhound coats, most over 20" have two belly straps (highlighted in the individual photographs)!’

so it seems they do. Not obvious though.

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 28/11/2025 20:05

Almost too embarrassing to say @SpanielsGalore 😳
38" chest, 36" length from base of neck to root of tail, but the main issue is her big fat neck which is 30". That seems to be the problem area.

Perhaps I should look at a coat for a Shetland pony...🙄

Ah, I didn't read the blurb. I did select bigger sizes and look at the photos, but still couldn't see any with two straps.
According to the label in P's coat, hers is 20".

My DM struggles to get coats to fit her greyhound because she’s long and skinny but has a really wide neck. So if she struggles with a greyhound which is a super common breed, I’m not surprised you might struggle to find something to fit Brie with her proportions @CoubousAndTourmaIet. Maybe you’ve identified a gap in the market here!!

Is that 20" chest or neck though? Two straps sounds good.

She's currently having a very long involved conversation with the cat 😂It's the only time she "barks", if you can call it that. It's more just rabbiting like her mum

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 28/11/2025 20:19

Interesting you should say that @YorkshireFelix , because the only harness we managed to get to fit well, was a hound harness. It's the same thing of thick neck, long body, fine head. People imagine a PMD is a scaled up Goldie, but the proportions are very different.

I think it's length. 🤔 Don't make me get up again. 😫 😂
I don't think neck and chest measurements matter, as it's velcro fastening. This is N wearing it. She's 5kg heavier than P, so there is less excess on the chest straps.

No! Don't get up!
Okay, that gives me a better idea what to look for for Big Bertha. Not a fixed neck at least.

I thought I'd found her one. Then realised it was cms, not inches. 🤦‍♀️ 😂

@CoubousAndTourmaIet These are pricey, but she does do made to measure.

At least they go big enough. I'll keep them in mind, thank you.

I'm getting lost on Amazon, but there's nothing quite right yet.

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 28/11/2025 21:20

Yup, I think the Morlich would be just about perfect - thank you @SpanielsGalore .
Could get a nice olive green. Think that may be Brie's Christmas present.

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 29/11/2025 12:47

I vanish for two days and there's four pages to read!

@CoubousAndTourmaIet I think it depends on the gundog, the breeder and the breeding (as people have demonstrated on this thread). But yes, I would say 90 minutes - 2 hrs for a Goldie, on average. So goodness knows where all the 'mine is happy with 45 minutes' lot have come from that seem to skulk on MN, but pop up whenever anyone says they need a low energy breed and say 'My Goldie only needs 45 minutes a day.' 😀

@tizwozliz
You don't see golden retrievers in that role but I've always assumed that's because generally working line goldens are rarer. I'd have assumed they could do the job?
They tend not to take Goldies for sniffer training/proper 'work' (the police I mean, rather than field work) for a few reasons from what I've seen/been told - health, life expectancy and also personality (maturity). They probably could do the job tbf, but they wouldn't necessarily do it well and by the time they were mature enough to do it they'd probably be close to retirement 😆

Hope everyone is well and so are the dogs 😊DH and I are having a lovely long weekend in Norfolk with all the dog babies!

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 29/11/2025 13:03

You were missed @TheHungryHungryLandsharks , but I recalled you saying your DH was due home.
Hope you're all enjoying Norfolk and that the weather is better there than it is here

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 29/11/2025 15:53

@CoubousAndTourmaIet it's lovely!!! I really do want to move here.

It's the first time Eris has met DH, so that's going as well as can be expected. 😂

tizwozliz · 29/11/2025 17:16

Just had to pull a tick off of big pup. It's not something I'm normally worried about when it's nearly December!

I was getting them off the dogs in February when every where was covered in snow. The bastard things never die out anymore!

We haven't actually had any since our trip to Scotland back in June. I suspect it's from last Sunday's walk as it was quite sizeable and the most likely place to pick one up.

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 29/11/2025 19:37

Ugh! She's so filthy. I hate this weather.

@CoubousAndTourmaIet My white ones came home looking like that. My black one was still clean. 👀 😂
