No point banning coffee, as it didn't work last time. 🙄
Haven't had any cake updates from a while. @VanGoSunflowers Have you stopped baking already? You still had 8 cakes to go to make it economical.

Oh God I love the baby names ones. 'What do you think of the name Dyarrhea-Mae?'. Although I did come across an actual academic the other day whose name is Teairstayn, I shit you not.

ETA @YorkshireFelix do tell us how you get on with poor V. You've really been in the wars, poor bug 😕

Edited

Gaelic I'm assuming? Teairstayn that is, not Piglet-Joy.

In any case I should 🤐 I have a name that gets pulled to pieces on mn thanks to a famous person. I now only go by a diminutive.

But hey, we were way ahead of the game all those years ago when we named our cats Wilf, Archie, Theo, Freija & Lilith 😆

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 28/11/2025 08:06

Nope, Teairstayn apparently not Gaelic but a US creation and female 😳 I imagined it being male and pronounced like Torsten, but clearly that was too logical. I'm not up on modern name trends. It took me a long time to work out nevaeh etc.

Bupster · 27/11/2025 19:58

@YorkshireFelix I can't do shaping with Bill either - I wondered if I was getting frustrated and projecting it onto him, but you've reassured me, as they are clearly separated at birth. Shaping drives him nuts. "WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME, WOMAN? Screw you, I'm off. And I'm having your hat."

When you have two you really see how they can have different learning styles.

Some things I've found incredibly easy with one and impossible with the other and vice versa.

Absolutely agree. The differences in trainability can be significant, even with half siblings like our two previous girls. One would walk off lead, the other, no way. Three months apart in age, raised together, trained together but chalk and cheese and needed completely different handling.

And I'm reading it as Tear (tier) Stain. 😂
You have to wonder what some people are thinking.
Now I'm intrigued as to what name gets pulled apart on MN. I can only think of MeAgain Markle.
My name was unusual in England. I never met any one else with it. But it's popular in Scotland. And having just googled it, it's either Welsh, Gaelic, German or Hebrew. 😂
And if you put my full name in a FB search, I'm the only person who comes up. That must make me unique. 😁

@YorkshireFelix How's Vinny this morning?

YorkshireFelix · 28/11/2025 10:57

I have a weird name, it begins with X. It comes up on baby name threads here sometimes if someone is looking for an unusual name. I’d never met another one until last year when I met a 3 year old version! It’s a pain in the arse as no one knows how to pronounce or spell it so I would never afflict a child with a very unusual name because it’s so annoying to live with 😄

@SpanielsGalorehe honestly seems completely fine this morning. I’ve messaged the physio and said I’m happy to leave it until our booked appointment on Wednesday unless she wants me to bring him in before then. He’s currently laid right across me snoozing and he’s lovely and warm, like a little hot water bottle.

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 28/11/2025 11:58

@SpanielsGalore
I was overthinking the Tearstain, wasn't I? 😂
Mine is French/Russian and used to be unusual, but is now tarnished. Even worse is the fact that my lovely surname has become a trending chavvy forename 😭 I'm not unique, there is another in the north west with same forename and surname, despite both being uncommon.

I've an idea what your X name might be @YorkshireFelix and I love it!
I'm very glad that V seems to be okay this morning.

We've just got absolutely drenched again. Poor Brie. We've never had a coat for any of the dogs but now actually pondering whether to look for a waterproof of some sort for her.

SpanielsGalore · 28/11/2025 12:45

@CoubousAndTourmaIet A thin waterproof one would save on towels. I doubt she would need a thick one for warmth. 😁
I'm going to order Equafleeces complete with legs for P and N. I think they'll feel the cold and can't run round enough to keep warm.
Little nutter only needs a drying coat for the journey home, as she shivers once she stops.

Equafleeces look perfect for a cocker, am assuming that's what BB's Pupsy has and she looks fab in it.

Struggling to find anything suitable for Brie currently. Most seem to be padded or fleecy and you're right - she overheats easily. Found a decent hooded one on Amazon but it was out of stock in the two largest sizes. I'll keep searching.

Honestly can't remember the last time we had this much rain. No doubt as soon as I buy a coat we'll be straight into a dry phase though 😆

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 28/11/2025 13:31

It's something like that I'm after @tizwozliz , but it's sold out in the two largest sizes.

tizwozliz · 28/11/2025 13:37

We timed our walk well, beautiful sunshine, started peeing it down 15 minutes after we got home. I think we have a yellow warning for rain tomorrow but my two are going to the dog walker for the day so that's a win!

We've measured her for a coat and we're giving up on the idea because of her proportions 😬

You obvious don’t live in Kent or Yorkshire. Hosepipe bans still in existence, and apart from the tail end of last week, still relatively mild.

No, I don't. We live in Lancashire, so west of the Pennines and a high rainfall area. It is very mild, actually far too mild for us, because we prefer cold, dry conditions. The reservoirs are full here.

Bupster · 28/11/2025 18:21

I really like the look of those, but you have to put them over the dog's head and he really dislikes that - I'm struggling to find a good quality waterproof that's not super-insulated and that just velcros around his chest (with a harness hole too - I bought a lovely coat the other day but I'm going to have to go to a tailors and ask for one to be put in).

He doesn't like coats full stop, but when it's absolutely pissing it down and we have to go out I do feel guilty about how wet he gets. Similarly when it's absolutely freezing - it's not so bad if we're on the Common and he's running around non-stop, but in the mornings he's refusing to go out until it's light, so our morning walks are often slower and sniffy. I can feel my toes freezing off while he's happily pottering around the cemetery, chewing chunks of gravestone 🙄

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 28/11/2025 18:31

The over the head aspect is what makes it a no for us too @Bupster . We aren't sure it'll fit her neck without making her feel strangled.
And we need it purely for rain, not for warmth, so likewise, no insulation. Truth be told I don't think she'd be keen but my DP has the idea that it would be useful.

SpanielsGalore · 28/11/2025 18:41

@Bupster Is this any good?

That's more like it! Have you got this one?

brushingboots · 28/11/2025 19:00

@YorkshireFelix You have a lovely name! I went to school with one and used to work with one.

Some of you already know my name but it is persistently spelt wrong and endlessly confused for different things that slightly sound like it in a noisy room.

Teairstayn is definitely one for the Tragedeigh reddit which I recommend to all.

On the coat chat, I got pupsy a(nother) drying coat because the two she’s got are 1) too lightweight and not good enough at drying for this time of year; 2) take too long to dry so better for after baths only, so I got her a Ruff and Tumble one in the Black Friday sale and it is really very nice. I put it on her when it arrived – when she was dry – and she stood there like I’d put her in a straitjacket. Furious. Took it off and she suddenly regained the use of her legs. Gratuitous photo here which also features my new kitchen rug!

No, sorry. But the reviews looked good.
I was trying to find P's, but I can't remember the make. When K wakes up and gets off my lap, I'll have a look. Hers just wraps round her body. Velcro round the front and two round the body. And has a zip on the back so you can attach the lead to the harness.

OP posts:
CoubousAndTourmaIet · 28/11/2025 19:13

I know your name @brushingboots , I also know @VanGoSunflowers name because I sent her a kibble sample a while ago. My forename is always pronounced incorrectly even by people who know me, and my surname is commonly spelt wrong. I agree it can be annoying.

Pupsy looks very fetching, but I do have the same fear of the straitjacket effect... Brie seems to become paralysed when I put the harness on her. DP walks her without, but I'm too scared of her escaping the collar again. She does walk much freer with him, whereas with me she plods so I do think she feels restricted by it and I fear the worst for a coat.

Your new kitchen rug looks lovely!

I love both the coat and the rug!

You all may remember my early attempts to stick Bill in a drying coat.

Puppy is definantly giving you ‘the stare’ and nice kitchen rug.

Bill looks very indignant. ‘I’m a rufty tufty Labrador, don’t you know!’

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 28/11/2025 19:21

Awww, his little face ❤He did not look impressed 😂
