No point banning coffee, as it didn't work last time. 🙄
Haven't had any cake updates from a while. @VanGoSunflowers Have you stopped baking already? You still had 8 cakes to go to make it economical.

@SpanielsGalore B&Q have some lovely shades if you've got one near you?

SpanielsGalore · 17/11/2025 18:55

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks We do. I spent about an hour in there on Saturday putting various shades of green and blue cards under the three different lights, and got no where. I fancied this shade, but couldn't find a paint close to it.

@SpanielsGalore I’m way behind on my 8 cake quota 😂 I did have plans to bake one over the weekend but because I have loads of chocolate and biscuits in the house I think I had better wait! Might try a sticky ginger cake next.

That colour is gorgeous by the way. I did my house up last year before I moved in and I can highly recommend Lick paint. Not sure if they do the sort of colour you’re after, but it’s really high quality and easy to paint with, you don’t need many coats and it’s nice and thick so doesn’t splatter and drip everywhere!
I could talk DIY all day 😂

SpanielsGalore · 17/11/2025 19:34

@VanGoSunflowers That cake sounds nice. I think I'd need it with cream cheese frosting though.
If I could afford it, I'd wet wall the kitchen and the problem would be solved. That colour is called Aqua Ice, but nothing came close to it in B&Q. I looked at the Lick paint and would have got samples if they did my idea of aqua.

VanGoSunflowers · 17/11/2025 20:17

@SpanielsGalore I will endeavour to add cream cheese frosting for you 😀 and of course leave the nuts out

I have spent so many hours in B&Q looking at paint samples! Most of my walls and ceilings are painted very dark as you can probably imagine. I wish you luck on your quest of finding the perfect colour.

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks just saw you’re waiting for your copy of Alchemised to come through and @CoubousAndTourmaIet has hers lined up
to read! I’m nearly on part three so looking forward to hearing what you both think. I may need something a little lighter after this, but I am enjoying it. Just about to dive back in to it for the evening.

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 18/11/2025 07:10

@SpanielsGalore oh that is a nice colour! Although very bright to have around dogs - you’ve braver than me as I’d be too worried about my merry band of muppets dirtying it somehow!

I have definitely concluded Twatdogs aversion is to the automatic tailgate of my car! I left my boot open this morning and then went back into the house to get the dogs and he raced out, into the boot and sat there. But as soon as I pressed the button to close the boot - after giving up on trying to cajole him out - out he wanked!! Raced back into the house and upstairs. I couldn’t be arsed to hunt him down - and set off his woofs of wank and wake the neighbours - so he will go without a walk this morning. I am still sat in the car trying to psych myself up to get out as it’s so cold and I forgot my gloves 😩

SpanielsGalore · 18/11/2025 09:11

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks I hadn't taken the dogs into consideration. 🤦‍♀️ Sludgy brown it is then. 😂
Hope you enjoyed your walk. I was still nice and warm, snuggled up with K under a duvet at that time of the morning. It's 13.9° in my living room. I don't know about outside, as the batteries have run out in my weather station and I'd have to go up a ladder to change them.
It's good that you've worked out TD's trigger. Wonder why it has spooked him after all this time. Can you manually close it? I assume not. Hopefully he'll be happy to get in the back seats still.

Placemarking by saying it's snowing here but it won't stick because we had rain earlier on.

Not much else to say right now because I'm currently not speaking to Brie or my partner 😠

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 18/11/2025 09:46

@CoubousAndTourmaIet what did Brie and your partner do!? Can we have a snow photo please? I LOVE fresh snow - just hate it when it's settled and turned manky!

@SpanielsGalore you have your own weather station!? I bet K was basking in all the cuddles 😍How are P and N doing?

You can manually close it, but it can really damage the struts (the automatic bit of the tailgate) so better not to. So I'll just be very careful to avoid him trying to get into the boot. Idiot dog. He looked so sad when I got home that I nearly caved and took him out, but he can wait until lunch

SpanielsGalore · 18/11/2025 10:19

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks Doesn't everyone have one? 🤷‍♀️ I used to have one with a simple outdoor sensor, but upgraded to the full station a few Christmases ago. It's not great though TBH. We'll be in the middle of a storm and it registers it as a mild breeze. Which it probably is for Scotland. 😂

Pleased to say N is fully recovered from her stomach upset. We've had a couple of rest days and are doing shorter walks round the village, as she's beginning to struggle a bit. She was sue at the vets tomorrow, but it's been pushed back a week as he's ill.

P is doing well and coping well with shorter walks. The vets have finally decided she has thickened ligaments, but they don't know why. They have suggested either drawing fluid to test for infection in the joint or putting a camera in for a better look. There was a third option, but I can't remember it. They got increasingly invasive. Currently waiting for the local vets to decide if any of them are capable of doing the fluid tap to save me a trip to Inverness.

Poor TD. 😢 I find the times I cave because they look sad, I live to regret it. So well done you for staying strong. 😁

@CoubousAndTourmaIet We're forecast snow today, but you are welcome to keep it. 😁 I hope Brie and your partner have made up for whatever they have done. Although it means you'll have a nice peaceful day for reading your new books.

OP posts:
CoubousAndTourmaIet · 18/11/2025 10:19

Oh poor Twatdog. At least you know what the issue is now but it's not easy to get around it unless you use the other car I guess.
One of ours (possibly Finn) was phobic about the rear wiper.

There isn't really any snow to photograph, it was just a brief flurry and the ground is wet.

We have a weather station too, attached to the garage. Our house is tropical compared to @SpanielsGalore 's.

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 18/11/2025 10:21

Oh sorry, what did they do? The usual. She was a total brat on the field and he was a grumpy old moaner. Nothing new really 🙄So I sat there ignoring them both last night with my head in a book.

tizwozliz · 18/11/2025 10:27

We have weather station with indoor and outdoor sensors, also a wind gauge (currently out of battery) and a rain gauge (not currently operational as big pup used to keep stealing it!). I started a crochet temperature blanket in 2021 using readings from it but quickly ran out of enthusiasm.

SpanielsGalore · 18/11/2025 10:32

See I knew everyone had one. 😂 Seems like @TheHungryHungryLandsharks is the odd one out. Hopefully Santa will bring her one, so she can be in with the in-crowd. 😁

@CoubousAndTourmaIet My heating is on now, so we are up to 17.5°.

@tizwozliz I am intrigued by a temperature blanket.

Normal service has been resumed here - torrential rain, and I've spoken to the girl after threatening her with rescue last night 😁

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 18/11/2025 10:58

Maybe we do have one and I have just never noticed...we have a hive (that I take great pleasure in switching off when DDs try and switch on and think I haven't noticed...).

@CoubousAndTourmaIet ahhh, so he was being a man (sorry to any men reading). I do find men aren't happy without a good moan - yet they always say it's us who whinge! 😁

@SpanielsGalore Don't you and @CoubousAndTourmaIet go feeling sorry for the little turd! This is a bed of his own making.

@SpanielsGalore so glad to hear N and P are doing a bit better ❤Does N have arthritis/stiffness did you say? I imagine this weather plays havoc on her. Fingers crossed they can operate on P a bit closer - don't imagine you want to be trying to manage her into a car for a long journey.

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 18/11/2025 11:11

I missed your post about P @SpanielsGalore so sorry. Hope you won't have a long trip for more tests, especially at this time of year...Glad she's coping well with the new exercise routine though.

Nella68 · 18/11/2025 11:46

@SpanielsGalore we have a weather station but the rain gauge and the anemometer gave up years ago. I’m never quite sure where to position the thermometer, we have a south facing garden so it’s hard to find a good spot. It gives a general idea though.

It’s good to have a more positive update of N and P.

Silverbirchleaf · 18/11/2025 12:14

Hi all.

Anyone else had a freezing walk today. A few days ago, it was T-shirt and fleece, and the temperature was in double figures. Today, long sleeve tshirt, jumper, thicker winter fleece, and ski socks (although I don’t ski), hats and gloves. Brrr!

(now to go back and read this Shiney new thread, which haven’t done. So yet).

BackToLurk · 18/11/2025 14:40

Well we have had a fail at the vets. We've been working on desensitising Boo around equipment and check ups. He's been going really well, until this morning. We got the syringe in and then he decided he'd had enough before the actual plunging could happen.
The vet is great with him, but I think he was quite surprised he hadn't bitten him. Just a warning followed by a massive kiss once Boo was happy he wasn't going to stick anything else in him.
Anyway we go again in a couple of weeks but with added medication.

ETA: my inner science geek is jealous of all the weather stations

SpanielsGalore · 18/11/2025 15:49

@Nella68 I don't think mine ever worked properly. Or it just couldn't cope with the Scottish weather. We were battered by a storm that ripped the roof off the summer house, wrecked the greenhouse and brought down two huge conifers. But it only registered as a mild breeze.
Mine is now mounted on the end of the garage, facing the North Sea. I'm tempted to huy a simple second sensor and screw it to the side of the summer house. I'd be able to reach it to change the battery then.

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks I'm allowed to feel sorry for TD being frightened of the car. The fear isn't of his own making. I don't feel sorŕy for him missing a walk. That won't do him any harm.
I hope Clem is still being anti social.
Yes, N has arthritis in all legs and spondylitis in her back. She's also missing a hip joint. She's on a lot of pain meds and has regular acupuncture to keep her comfortable. We take each day as it comes and do as much or as little as she can manage. Cold, crisp days aren't too bad for her, although I do put a coat on her as she's quite slow. Wet, damp days are worse. Which today has turned in to.

@Silverbirchleaf Cold here today, but still only needed a t-shirt under my dupe dry robe. I did have a hat and gloves on though. Can't stand having a cold head.

@CoubousAndTourmaIet Glad you're friends with Brie again. 💖 Not bothered about your partner so much. 😂

@BackToLurk Sorry your vet visit didn't go as planned. Shows what a good boy Boo is though that he didn't bite. Can he be distracted by food? My reactive cocker was so food obsessed, he'd let the vet draw blood whilst he licked squirty cheese from a tube. But my other cocker was so stressed, he couldn't be tempted by a treat.

I walked P and K in the woods this morning. Then came home and swapped P for N and went down the sea front. I haven't managed to do a second walk yet as the Taper has been here. And now it's dark and chucking it down, so it will be short walks around the village later on, if anything.

OP posts:
CoubousAndTourmaIet · 18/11/2025 16:46

Heavy sleety rain pretty much all day here.
I spent the afternoon with Alchemised. We were never destined to be friends 😞

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 18/11/2025 17:43

@SpanielsGalore ah I thought you meant you felt sorry for him not getting a walk!😳It's crap he's scared of the boot, but running back into the house and up the stairs is a bit dramatic (and very much in line for him - the fury little weirdo).

Sounds like K has had quite the day for walks! She must be very happy 😁

@Silverbirchleaf Yep! Freezing here - and I forgot gloves and my hat. I was a little ice-cube when I got back to the car. I spend all year wishing for winter and then when it arrives I spend the next six months moaning about how cold I am (she says sitting in her lounge with the patio doors wide open...).

@CoubousAndTourmaIet was @VanGoSunflowers right? Is it good!?

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 18/11/2025 18:22

Ummmm sadly it's just not for me @TheHungryHungryLandsharks
I'm incredibly squeamish about anything medical. Battle scenes, fine, people getting heads chopped off with axes or swords no probs. But anything to do with needles, scalpels or medication is a big fat no 😬 My loss, I'm sure, but from the reviews it does seem to be a marmite book. Hopefully you'll get on better with it than I did.

VanGoSunflowers · 18/11/2025 18:41

@CoubousAndTourmaIet oooh then definitely don’t read the rest of the book! I’m sorry, I didn’t think to mention that side of things. I thought you were going to say it’s slow going at the start - and it is, took me a good 100 pages before I decided I was in to it. The middle part is dragged out a little, but I’m only 150 pages from finishing it now so I am determined to stay until the end 😂
But you’re right, it does seem very marmite. Have you anything else lined up to read?
