Not going to tag everyone as I don't know who wants to join. Welcome everyone. 😁

I have had two roofers here this morning. After the initial barking at heads appearing over the ridge, the dogs have been so good. They've sat in the garden and watched them working. Greeted them every time they came into the garden and didn't once try to bolt out of the gate. I heard one of the men telling them to 'stay' as he struggled through the gate with a bucket full of water, and then telling them they were 'good dogs'.
They've just finished and as they were leaving one commented on how calm my dogs are and not like 'normal spaniels'. See. Not all working cockers are 'high on crack' and 'manic'. 😇😇😇

Beautiful weather here today. 🌞 I unexpectedly got my car back yesterday. 🥳
Off to the woods to walk the adolescent nutter until she collapses in a heap. 😂

Bill kind of used to be the thread mascot on puppy & adolescent threads @Silverbirchleaf , because we all love him very much. He's quite a character. @Bupster 's tales of his adventures are much missed here of late.

Bupster · 08/11/2025 19:58

@CoubousAndTourmaIet you'll be pleased to know he stole my glasses today and ran upstairs with them. I thought, not to worry, I won't chase after him, if he's not down in a minute I need to go up to the loo anyway. A minute later he trotted back down and I swapped the glasses for some treats and put them back on my head. It was only when I did go up to use the loo I spotted the lenses on the carpet of the study, the little sod - I'd been wandering around with empty frames on my head and hadn't even noticed.

Silverbirchleaf · 08/11/2025 19:59

Thank you. My first thought was lab, but then I wasn’t sure.

So he lives up to his name, Silly Billy!

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 08/11/2025 20:18

Thanks @Bupster , that gave me my first laugh in two days of blinding migraine. Give the numpty a big squeeze for me x

It's like a bloody warzone here tonight, ten times worse than it was on Wednesday. She wasn't fussed at first but then panicked and tried to go under the table, so I've dosed her up with the liquid Valerian and we've stuck some Bach on the hi-fi.

You were brave getting out @Silverbirchleaf !

Edited cuz it sounded rude 😳

Well, if you click edited you can, but... I said give the nobhead a squeeze 😳😂😁

LandSharksAnonymous · 09/11/2025 06:58

Ohh look a Bill. He's such a handsome man.😍

Absolutely bugger all to do with dogs, but I have just booked our Christmas holiday (to Norfolk- where else?). Very excited to spend Christmas Day marauding around Holkham Beach with DDogs (and the family...of course). Even better, as DH will be back he can drive the estate and bring my coffee machine as I refuse to go on holiday without it and it's always a nightmare trying to squeeze it in between DMums car and mine given how many dogs there are.

SpanielsGalore · 09/11/2025 09:34

@LandSharksAnonymous How exciting! Hope you all have a lovely time. 🎄
Are you, DH and the dogs going to Norfolk this month too? I seem to remember us all booking in wih your DMum for a holiday of steak and Eton Mess. Hopefully not on the same plate, but I'm sure I could still force them down if it came to it. 🐷

N is used to walking with the other two. I regularly take all three down to the sea front for half an hour or so. Occasionally we go to the woods. N walks for as long as she can manage and then goes in her pushchair.
But it depends on how well N is doing. If she's only managing 15 minutes of pottering, I walk her separately. Last Sunday we went down the seafront and she managed 40 minutes. It's amazing the difference the acupuncture makes to her mobility.

@Bupster God. 5 o' clock starts would kill me. I am not a morning person and am even resentful of 7:30 ones.
That's hilarious about your glasses. 😂 And Bill's little face in that photo. 💖

@SpanielsGalore Yep! Long-weekend in a few weeks as we decided in the end to do a short one and then two full weeks at Christmas (one of which I will sadly be working remotely). We've still not actually told DDs he's coming home permanently as I think it should come from him in person rather than via a video-call or from me. But you are more than welcome to partake in Eton Mess and Steak...DH and I won't be missing out as we're going here https://sociusnorfolk.co.uk/

It's honestly the best restaurant I've ever been to. Never had a bad pate of food there! We've been going since 2018 - and when on holiday we go there 2 times a week, minimum - which probably says a lot about how good the food is!

N sounds quite a bit like Hen - she can go for ages if she wants and then other days its a quick wee/poo and then she takes herself back to the car (I am yet to find a buggy big enough...). Honestly all your dogs (and you) sound like you're living the best life in Scotland - good fish and chips, the sea, no people...heaven 😍

SpanielsGalore · 09/11/2025 10:40

@LandSharksAnonymous Here you go. 😁
https://www.amazon.co.uk/InnoPet-Hercules-Stroller-Trailer-Yellow/dp/B0DW4HXT4N/ref=sr14sspa?

N has a smaller model. It's great for 'off roading' on woodland tracks.
She has severe arthritis in all legs, the beginnings of spondylitis and is missing a hip joint, so has mobility issues. She struggled to walk for more than 5 minutes when she came into foster. With the help of pain relief, electroacupuncture and physiotherapy, she can now manage around 30 minutes. She has good and bad days though. She's a Goldilocks dog - she struggles if it's too hot or too cold.

Sounds as if you're going to have a really magical Christmas @LandSharksAnonymous 🎄

That buggy looks great @SpanielsGalore , I'm totally converted now and found myself explaining dog prams to someone on one of the dog hate threads the other day. It must make all the difference for a dog like N.

Drizzle here now, although it was dry early on. Brie got me up at 4 again so she could go and sleep outside 🙄 I'll be glad when her season ends and we go back to the usual 6.30 start.

I'm now on day 3 of migraine and no food so my chap is on day 3 of dog walking duties. I hate missing walks, it's just a bore when I get one like this 😞

There's another entertaining what dog breed thread; "I want a German Shepherd" "you should get a Chihuahua" 😂 Yup. I'm sure the police will be switching breeds any day now... 😏

Sorry post is very fragmented, kinda like my brain at the mo 😵

LandSharksAnonymous · 09/11/2025 13:57

@SpanielsGalore that buggy is worth more than anything I own (except the big important things, like the house and car)! Although if it can actually handle the weight it claims, 'hercules' is a good name for it! I'll send DH a link and suggest one for Hen, although for now she can still walk fairly far and is relatively agile (and indeed I found her on DD1s bed this morning) and when I told her 'off' she just wrinkled her nose at me (not really a snarl or a grumble, but you know when they curl their lips in a 'please do piss off' manner when they get older?)

I love the bright pink leads 😍

@CoubousAndTourmaIet sorry to hear you're still feeling rotten and Brie is determined to be a night owl! How long do your migraines usually last?

I saw that about the Chi! Who on earth would recommend that after a GSD...the only thing they have in common is both are hard work (only GSDs are actually trainable - yet to meet a Chi that is trained).

@CoubousAndTourmaIet Sorry to hear you are still suffering. It must be very debilitating.
I first had a pushchair when P was a puppy. It meant she could come out for long walks and join in for parts of it. They're great if you have dogs with different exercise needs. Or if you have dogs that can't manage a full day out, but you don't want to leave them at home for hours.

@LandSharksAnonymous If you ever do want/need a dog buggy, it's worth having a look on FB market.

Walked K for an hour along the sea front. Detoured around one field to avoid the escaped bull. She had a good sniff of the shark, but fortunately didn't attempt to eat or roll on it.
Took P out for half an hour. I put her raincoat on as 1) it was raining and 2) the physio said because she is thin, her energy goes towards keeping warm instead of healing her knee. 🤷‍♀️ I suppose the pancreatitis and spay surgery hasn't helped either then.
We are supposed to start and end each walk with 5 - 10 minutes of walking in circles and figures of 8. P wondered what the heck was going on and kept digging her heels in and refusing to budge. She enjoyed having a run in between though.
I was going to take N for a short 5 minute walk round the block, since she's feeling a little better. But it was pising it down, so I didn't bother. Didn't think it would do her any good to get wet and cold when she's not fully recovered yet.

I thought the chihuahua suggestion was a joke.

OP posts:
CoubousAndTourmaIet · 09/11/2025 16:09

Oh poor P @SpanielsGalore , the new exercise regime will be baffling for her to start with, but hopefully she'll soon get used to it.

Ugh! That shark must be a bit stinky by now, surely? Poor thing.

I wasn't sure if the Chihuahua suggestions were serious, a joke or being patronising because of the OP being disabled. You can never be completely sure on mn really.

White dog?
samoyed

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 09/11/2025 18:50

Silverbirchleaf · 09/11/2025 18:07

White dog?
samoyed

Ummmm... good guess, but...no!

We were once given a Samoyed that didn't belong to us though 😆
We got up one morning and found it tied to a tree in our front garden. We were known for having white fluffy dogs, so presumably someone had found him wandering and kindly returned our lost dog. We actually knew where he lived so we took him home. He was always a little sod for escaping, but fortunately that was the only time he ended up being returned to us.

VanGoSunflowers · 09/11/2025 19:04

@LandSharksAnonymous & @Silverbirchleaf here is a pic of the boy for you!

@SpanielsGalore so sorry to hear about the walking restrictions! I hope the specialists can can help her!

@Bupster I bloody love those pictures! He has such an expressive face!!

@LandSharksAnonymous yay to more holidays!! I’d love to go to Norfolk again one day, it’s such a drive from me though and I get bored driving long distances! Also really pleased you can take your coffee machine!

@CoubousAndTourmaIet I Hope your migraine eases off. That sounds torturous for you. Is there anything at all that helps?

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 09/11/2025 19:19

Thanks @VanGoSunflowers
No, once it kicks in there's nothing I can do. I don't even get aura. It's 90% gone for now, thankfully.

Can't believe how grown up Pablo is looking!

Silverbirchleaf · 09/11/2025 19:37

@VanGoSunflowers If your lab is anything like my lab, I’m guessing someone has a treat in their hand, and that’s why he’s looking that way.

VanGoSunflowers · 09/11/2025 20:21

@CoubousAndTourmaIet Im glad you’re almost over it at least. You must feel exhausted!

@Silverbirchleaf haha you’ve got it in one! 😂

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 10/11/2025 07:28

Good Morning all,
Up at 5 again with Brie who wanted to lie out for a while, so I went book shopping of course 🙄 I've finally ordered Alchemised @VanGoSunflowers . Pangs of guilt about ordering from Amazon because I normally prefer to use Hive (to support our nearest independent bookshop), but this time the price difference was significant. I've also ordered the special edition hardbacks of Quicksilver & Brimstone. I seem to be getting back into proper reading, after a bit of a brain foggy lull for a few months, The Hemlock Queen is a good read.
I hope all poorly pups (and people) have a better day today x

VanGoSunflowers · 10/11/2025 16:40

@CoubousAndTourmaIet sorry to hear that Brie had you up early but I must say you spent the time wisely 😂

Really hope you like Alchemised. I’m exactly half way through now - it’s quite a sizeable read! I’m adding your recommendations to a list!

Hope everyone else and their pups are ok!

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 11/11/2025 12:57

Sigh. @SpanielsGalore @YorkshireFelix @Bupster @CoubousAndTourmaIet @VanGoSunflowers and @Silverbirchleaf (and anyone I have missed off but you're the most frequent posters atm) so you know who is randomly tagging you and piping up on threads!

I forgot my password after logging out so DD1 could use my phone, so ended up creating a new account, realising I couldn't have two, asked MN to delete one (/help with the other account) and they deleted the LSA one and so I have this one 😭

Back onto important topics;

@VanGoSunflowers we (well, I because DH is never here to use it and DDs are banned from drinking coffee until they're 16) have a Jura E8 so it's a proper proper coffee machine. It's the love of my life arter the dogs and before DH (at least first thing in the morning). I hate, with a fiery passion, Nespresso ones, particularly the ones they have in holiday cottages as they're never cleaned properly and end up smelling like weed whenever they're used.

@SpanielsGalore how are N, P and K doing?

@CoubousAndTourmaIet I am waiting for Alchemised to turn up in my local bookshop as I also dislike using amazon, but they don't have it in stock yet. I'm quite keen to see how much it differs from the Manacled FF I read.

Uploading a photo of Twatdog as proof of life. He looks quite small in that photo...and rather fat. But his tail looks impressive. His nose in scrunched because he's looking at his reflection in the mirror 😀

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 11/11/2025 13:32

I do have pangs of guilt about ordering from Amazon @TheHungryHungryLandsharks but there are no local independent bookshops near us, sadly, and the price was silly everywhere else.

I do love that Twatdog is pulling a grumpy face at himself there😆The daft bugger! Typical boy though! Merlin at 8 weeks, saw his reflection in the cooker door, thought it was his littermate and invited it to play 😂

Speaking of male misunderstandings, a person in my house (who I won't embarrass by identifying) yesterday thought he'd found a wart behind Brie's front leg....Hmmm.... Yep, you guessed it, it was a nipple 🙄
