Not going to tag everyone as I don't know who wants to join. Welcome everyone. 😁

I have had two roofers here this morning. After the initial barking at heads appearing over the ridge, the dogs have been so good. They've sat in the garden and watched them working. Greeted them every time they came into the garden and didn't once try to bolt out of the gate. I heard one of the men telling them to 'stay' as he struggled through the gate with a bucket full of water, and then telling them they were 'good dogs'.
They've just finished and as they were leaving one commented on how calm my dogs are and not like 'normal spaniels'. See. Not all working cockers are 'high on crack' and 'manic'. 😇😇😇

Beautiful weather here today. 🌞 I unexpectedly got my car back yesterday. 🥳
Off to the woods to walk the adolescent nutter until she collapses in a heap. 😂

My croissant.

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 16/11/2025 09:07

@Silverbirchleaf they don’t, but they do attack humans if provoked (or simply irritated)! There’s woods behind the fields at the back of our house and at certain points of the year you can see people fleeing out of the woods - usually having encountered a badger!

Your croissant is very pretty!

@SpanielsGalore you’ll appreciate how much this means to me, but last night Clem slept on the bed! Head on my chest, all night. I barely slept as her head is massive and I felt like I couldn’t breathe for most of the night, but I couldn’t bring myself to move her! And on our morning walk, she kept bringing me sticks. Usually she’s the one doing her own thing…part of me is a bit worried as it’s out of character but I’m going to try and not worry…

Edit: typo! People were fleeing the woods; not feeling the woods. Although maybe they were feeling it, who knows? No judgement here.

tizwozliz · 16/11/2025 09:25

Shattered this morning, little pup was up twice in the night vomiting up bits of the chew she clearly didn't chew!

SpanielsGalore · 16/11/2025 09:25

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks Awwww that's lovely, even if slightly suffocating. 💖
I also totally get the sweet but concerning vibe. It's so difficult to take shows of affection at face value when they are usually stand offish. I'd say try not to worry, but speaking fom experience, it's pointless.

@tizwozliz Oh no. Hope Little Pup is alright. Having been up for several nights with N, I can empathise with the lack of sleep.

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 16/11/2025 11:32

I hope your little one makes a speedy recovery from her tummy trouble @tizwozliz You have my sympathies with regard to lost sleep. I've been up since 3.45 with the nocturnal one, who wanted to lie outside. I was cooking porridge at 5am.

Anyway, it's a lovely dry sunny morning here for a change, so we got out early. Sadly, everyone else had the same idea and there were fifty bazillion dogs running loose on the field. There was a group of spaniels on there doing training, I have to say they were very good, we never get any hassle from spaniels and there are a lot around here. A few Labs (including a grossly obese one), several doodles and a snarly Border Collie.

Brie was truly awful, lead biting, pulling all over the place and effectively had a toddler tantrum, lying on the ground with the lead in her mouth. Fine on the pavement sections, nice loose lead walking then, as always, but a nightmare on the field and it's exhausting.

Hope Clem is okay @TheHungryHungryLandsharks , I agree with you and @SpanielsGalore that any change in behaviour is always a bit concerning, particularly with the quieter ones.

tizwozliz · 16/11/2025 11:41

It's not really tummy trouble, just literally bringing up a lump of bone and not much else. I should have known better than to give them the beef tails I got in the mystery box as I'm sure they've had the same effect before. And it's always at 3 am ish, irrespective of the time of consumption.

No sun here but it is dry, just about to head out to the woods.

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 16/11/2025 11:43

@CoubousAndTourmaIet @SpanielsGalore she's on the bed fast asleep right now and grumbled at Twatdog when he came in with me just now, so I think she's broadly okay! But as you say, always worrying when the independent ones start being clingy. I'll see what she's like on her lunchtime walk.

If she stays being clingy I'll take her to the vets on Monday, although not sure what I'll say.
"What appears to be the issue?"
"Well my dog who is usually a total misery and hates everyone and everything has been cuddling me. She must be sick."

@tizwozliz hope your little one feels better soon - retrievers are a bugger for funny tummies I've found! Although I'm guessing if she's up for a walk she's probably already recovered.

I find mine are always sick the first night on holiday. Every time. Without fail. 😤

SpanielsGalore · 16/11/2025 16:31

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks That's usually my approach. "There's something wrong with them. (S)He is very quiet and subdued." This is why I never get anywhere with my vets. 🙄

Took K down the beach and tried to take some nice photos of her. We're no where near Tizwozliz's standard. If I'd had my glasses on and was arty, I'd have lowered the camera on the one with her head turned, so I captured all of her reflection. 🤦‍♀️ Only including that one because it shows how tiny her head is compared to her body.

P.S. Is it just me or is it a little silly and somewhat risky to take your cat for a walk on a beach where off lead dogs are allowed? 😳

They're lovely photos anyway @SpanielsGalore
As a cat person I totally agree with you, it is utterly stupid to take a cat anywhere that there are dogs roaming free. We were horrified years ago to meet a couple of cats being walked on harness and lead at a nearby country park, although they seemed unbothered by all the dogs.

I must be getting nesh in my old age, but it's bloody freezing here right now! Weather station says 1 degree, but dropping very rapidly. Mrs Sillyhead is lying outside all stretched out like a tourist on a lounger in Benidorm. I bet she'll get me up at 4am again 🙄 I'm putting two pairs of pyjamas on tonight and 3 pairs of socks...😬

tizwozliz · 16/11/2025 17:11

We're forecast sleet/snow later this week. It was this time last year that we had the only significant snow of winter for us. I wouldn't mind a few days of that again - crisp and freezing is far preferable to warm and wet.

We're forecast snow on Tuesday. I could do without it TBH. I am a very nervous, icy/snowy road driver.

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 16/11/2025 17:18

It's forecast for Thursday here. I totally agree @tizwozliz , we love cold and dry too, utterly fed up with rain lately, not least because mild and damp triggers my asthma.

BackToLurk · 16/11/2025 18:28

It finally stopped raining yesterday, waiting for the crisp coldness to replace the damp horribleness

We had the vomited chew too @tizwozliz It was yak chews with us. They were fine when he was small, but then he just kept biting chunks off and they came out one end or the other. So they’ve gone.

Pretty good walks today with some more solid progress on calmness in the face of exciting dogs.

tizwozliz · 16/11/2025 18:37

@BackToLurk - yes, yak chews are also off the list here for the same reason, bitten off in huge chunks only to reappear at 3 am. Ditto ostrich feet and now these beef tails. Always a bit of a mystery in how the lab stomach works, doesn't matter how many meals they've had since ingestion, just the offending chunks/bone reappearing at 3am.

VanGoSunflowers · 16/11/2025 18:56

@BackToLurk & @tizwozliz Yak chews are banned here for that same reason, and weirdly the few episodes of nighttime vomiting of an offending item we have had always happen at around 3am!

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 16/11/2025 19:05

Yak chews banned here also (vet in the family said no Yak or Antler). Also bones are banned on the grounds of jaw strength 😬
With Brie, stuff that disagrees with her generally comes out the other end 💩

Silverbirchleaf · 16/11/2025 19:24

@SpanielsGalore Love the photos, especially the windswept/shadow one.

No snow forecast here, but it’s turning cold. Don’t mind snow, as long as it stays on the fields. Hate walking or driving on icy roads

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 17/11/2025 06:08

@SpanielsGalore the photo of K with her ears blowing in the breeze is very good! She looks like she's saying 'ahh, my Kingdom and my human.'

And agreed. Cats anywhere where dogs are off-lead is a bad idea. Just because cats can usually out-race a dog if a dog does go for it, does not mean it's smart and a cat on a lead vs.an off-lead dog is never going to end well...

Everyone (aka me) will be pleased to know Clem is back to ignoring me. So all is fine 😁

It's not rained here for a few days. Today is 9 and bright and sunny. Perfect weather to WFH on the patio with the heater and a blanket - no work calls today. I am far more productive when I work outside than inside...mosly because whenever I WFH inside I spend all day checking Twatdog isn't digging holes and Eris is doing her own version of the Great Escape.😳

Edit: Just to add, in my house it's venison ears! I bought Twatdog some once as the older girls love it. Not only did I have to chase him around the garden to give it to him as he was scared (what sort of dog is scared of treats!?), he then choked it down in about three bites and was sick everywhere. So now he gets carrot and the girl's get venison ears, but it's a once in a blue moon thing given Hen is getting a bit old now and her teeth are not quite up to it anymore

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 17/11/2025 14:42

Glad Clem is back to normal @TheHungryHungryLandsharks .

I've just received my copy of Alchemised @VanGoSunflowers and OMG, it's huge! Currently half way through Spellbound, so might be a couple of days before I'll start reading it but it doesn't look like a quick read, that's for sure!

Off for our main walk now. Dry & sunny here, but chilly.

SpanielsGalore · 17/11/2025 15:11

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks Glad Clem is back to her normal anti social self.
Wrong thread I think, but does Pen not defend Eris when a dog has a go at her?

5° but feels like 0 here. Wet, rain and hailstones.
Have taken all the dogs out for one walk, but don't think we'll fit a second one in. I have a man here Ames taping my kitchen and it will be dark before he's finished.
Now I just need to decide what colour to paint it. 🤔 I have white cupboards and black worktops, so it could be anything. I went to B&Q to look at colour samples, but there is far too much choice.

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks - that reminds me, venison legs off the menu here too, finding a hoof in vomit in the middle of the night is no fun!

Beautiful here today

We met a young 18 month old lab when out and they all had a bit of a run around together. Little pup even managed a play bow at him before remembering she's scared of other dogs and hiding behind my legs 😂

@CoubousAndTourmaIet its quite a sizeable book isn’t it! Am about 3/4 of the way through now. I hope you enjoy it 😊

@SpanielsGalore Pen will usually air snap, but this morning she was off sniffing some cow pats...she has her priorities straight. Poo > Children.

Ohh I love kitchen decoration! What about a nice forest green?

@CoubousAndTourmaIet @VanGoSunflowers my copy still hasn't arrived! Hoping it's as good as I remember/even better...

@tizwozliz Lucky us, eh? I wondered if it was maybe the hair that put him off (it put me off tbh and I only have to hold it)!

I have finally retreated inside and am doing a very good impression of @BackToLurk boy! Not sure I could get closer to the radiator if I tried...even with a blanket and patio heater I might have been a bit ambitious in planning to sit outside all day!

SpanielsGalore · 17/11/2025 18:00

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks I wanted to go aqua, but can't find the shade that is in my head.
My living room is Seafoam, which I say is green and everyone else says is blue. It's in the green colour palette in Dunelm. And the matching dog beds are listed as green in Pets at Home.
I got a purple colour sample at the weekend, but the taper said it's a 10 year old girl's bedroom colour. 😂
