Not going to tag everyone as I don't know who wants to join. Welcome everyone. 😁

I have had two roofers here this morning. After the initial barking at heads appearing over the ridge, the dogs have been so good. They've sat in the garden and watched them working. Greeted them every time they came into the garden and didn't once try to bolt out of the gate. I heard one of the men telling them to 'stay' as he struggled through the gate with a bucket full of water, and then telling them they were 'good dogs'.
They've just finished and as they were leaving one commented on how calm my dogs are and not like 'normal spaniels'. See. Not all working cockers are 'high on crack' and 'manic'. 😇😇😇

Beautiful weather here today. 🌞 I unexpectedly got my car back yesterday. 🥳
Off to the woods to walk the adolescent nutter until she collapses in a heap. 😂

@SpanielsGalore are you missing her not being as anti-social? I found when Clem was sick as much as I hated knowing she was hurt or scared, I really loved that she came to me. Reminded me that she does love me.

@CoubousAndTourmaIet did she wake you up?

We had a lovely walk this morning with DMum. Saw Twatdogs girlfriend and I was introduced to Satans ‘boyfriend’ - Rex. The GSD, who I often see when I walk alone, who is muzzled and growls and barks at every dog (including mine) but sees Satan and is like a puppet whose strings have been cut - just goes all soft and whines for her! Satan clearly had that magic touch (or really is just so scary she’s intimidated Rex into submission).

SpanielsGalore · 21/10/2025 08:59

@CoubousAndTourmaIet I'm assuming the pancreatitis has cleared up now or resolved itself. (Whatever the correct term is.) The vet said feed a low fat diet for two to three weeks and it's been nearly 4 weeks. Although it did take me a week to get a low fat food. But P is back to sleeping in a different room, so she must be feeling better.

Hope Miss Brie didn't get you up in the night for a wee. P hasn't done one yet this morning. It's hard enough trying to drag a 12.5 kg dog onto wet grass when they are digging their paws in, so I can imagine you stand no chance of moving a dog three times P's size.

SpanielsGalore · 21/10/2025 09:09

@LandSharksAnonymous It's bitter sweet, isn't it? It was nice for a little while, but it's good to know she's feeling better.

That's funny about the GSD. Satan must be a very special little dog, bless her. ❤️

Should ask this on the adolescent thread, but I'll probably get a better answer on this this one.
K is on day 17 of her season and is still bleeding. Is that 'normal'? I thought it stopped around day 10.

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 21/10/2025 09:31

Just posted on the other thread to have a moan about adolescence, oddly enough, but no - she didn't wake until 7, so that was 15 hours without a wee.

Glad that P is so much improved @SpanielsGalore
As far as K's bleeding, I'll leave that to @LandSharksAnonymous to answer.
Brie didn't bleed for long on her first and I can't remember what the others were like, except that R was horribly hormonal.

That is so funny about Satan & Rex, clearly they are kindred spirits in their mutual hatred of the world and everybody in it. A bit like me and my chap really 😬

LandSharksAnonymous · 21/10/2025 09:51

@SpanielsGalore is it constant bleeding? Or just patching spotting?

Satan is very special...very very special. As @CoubousAndTourmaIet says, Rex and Satan against the world! 😀

15 hours without a wee is very impressive! Hen has managed similar and like Brie it was because she didn't want to get wet.

SpanielsGalore · 21/10/2025 10:02

@LandSharksAnonymous Don't know. 🙈 Patching spotting? 🤷‍♀️ NDN told me K dripped blood on her kitchen floor on Sunday. And I treated myself to clean bedding last night, since we've moved back upstairs. This morning it has at least four patches of blood on it.

OP posts:
tizwozliz · 21/10/2025 10:04

Ours do about 13 hours when we come to Denmark as they refuse to wee on the ferry

LandSharksAnonymous · 21/10/2025 10:28

@SpanielsGalore I'd give it another day or so and then maybe give the vet a ring to chat through - if it was one of my girls that's what I'd do. Longer patching isn't unusual but equally if you're concerned it's always worth speaking to the vet! Most should/do talk through things like this on the phone without charging in my experience.

SpanielsGalore · 21/10/2025 11:09

@LandSharksAnonymous I'm not overly concerned if it's normal. Google says it stops around day 10, but can be longer. I only really have P to compare her to, and she was a very light bleeder compared to K. Last week's bedding will be going in the bin. Swiftly followed by this week's I think.

OP posts:
CoubousAndTourmaIet · 21/10/2025 11:11

That sounds a lot @SpanielsGalore , we've never had that level of blood from our 4 girls, just odd spots here and there. Nothing like soiled bedding...

SpanielsGalore · 21/10/2025 12:44

@CoubousAndTourmaIet Well now you've made me worry. 🙈 😂 I vastly underestimated with four patches. I count 13 with a few extra dots. Photo attached, but hidden so no one has to see it if they don't want to. Is this excessive for 7 hours on day 16/17?

@SpanielsGalore I would say our younger one was similar. Towards the end of 3 weeks she was still leaving pink tinged patches but nowhere near as red as earlier which was more like just blood. I don't actually think she bled more than my older one she was just far less particular about keeping herself clean.

Please don't panic. That looks pretty normal. When you said about ruined bedding I imagined a pool of bright red blood the size of a dinner plate!!!

And I'm sorry about the delay in responding, but I had to take a call from my therapist x

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 21/10/2025 13:35

Also @SpanielsGalore as @tizwozliz rightly says, some bitches are better at cleaning themselves than others are so you don't notice it as much.

tizwozliz · 21/10/2025 14:08

We now have some temporary fencing in the garden here so no more 3am trips in the rain with dogs on lead 😁

I thank my lucky stars that I don't have dogs that will only toilet on walks as I'm far too lazy for that.

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 21/10/2025 14:14

Me too @tizwozliz , it would drive me mad if she wouldn't use the garden.
Glad you have an enclosed area for them now.

LandSharksAnonymous · 21/10/2025 14:22

Agree with Tiz/C&T that it can vary massively. I also think it's not that much spotting - it's very light.

When it comes to keeping clean Pen is, quite frankly, a disgrace (other than when she whelped when she was almost OCD-like about the puppies). Clem however barely lifts her head from grooming herself - if that dog was a human, she'd be glued to the mirror 😀

Gosh @tizwozliz I don't know how I would cope without a fence!

SpanielsGalore · 21/10/2025 14:50

@tizwozliz Thank you. That's good to know. I'm pretty sure P stopped bleeding around the 10 day mark, so wasn't sure if this was usual or not. She's quite clean during the day time, but not overnight.
Glad you have fencing sorted out. Having to do on lead trips into the garden is a PITA at any time of day. Hope things are as alright as they can be over there. 💐

@CoubousAndTourmaIet No worries. I've been out to walk the cockers, so only just catching up. The ruined bedding is the one I have just taken off, which hasn't washed clean. It looked like something out of a slasher movie.

@LandSharksAnonymous I think I'd rather have spotted bedding than listen to the constant slurping noises N makes. 🤢

OP posts:
CoubousAndTourmaIet · 21/10/2025 15:10

@SpanielsGalore
My chap used to complain non stop about the slurping noises our boy Pyreneans would make when cleaning their bits 😳 He'd have to leave the room when they started off 😂

LandSharksAnonymous · 21/10/2025 16:32

@SpanielsGalore Clem slurps. It's vile isn't it?

Although, I will say, I would much prefer to listen to that slurping than the sounds Eris was making whenever she managed to get Twatdog to stand still long enough for her 'attentions.'

Dogs really are quite vile aren't they?

VanGoSunflowers · 21/10/2025 18:30

Hello all! Hope you’re all ok.

Work has been so manic lately and I’ve been staring so intently at a screen all day that I don’t want to touch my phone outside out working hours 😂

@brushingboots I enjoyed your Ted Talk on coats 😊 was thinking about getting a knock off dry robe at some point!

@LandSharksAnonymous sorry you’ve been having a crappy time at work! How are you feeling now?

@CoubousAndTourmaIet been taking note of all your book suggestions! As I said on the puppy thread, I got through six of crows in 5 days! Got the sequel being delivered any minute! I was asking a work colleague about ACOTAR and TOG and she said it’s basically smut?! I’m no prude and don’t mind a bit of spice in a book but does it get in the way of the story line would you say?? I have ordered a copy of Alchemised - I know that’s not YA as such, I think it’s supposed to be a quite dark and upsetting read!

@SpanielsGalore sorry you didn’t get the news you were hoping for from the vets. You’re really having a tough one at the moment! Did you make a decision on the x-ray? Sorry if I have missed it!

@tizwozliz hope Denmark is ok despite the circumstances around you being there not being happy. I do love looking at pictures of black Labs 😍

VanGoSunflowers · 21/10/2025 18:33

Also, I haven’t had the heating on much at all here. I bought myself one of those plug in electric blankets so I sit on the sofa under that of an evening - all toasty, reading my book with a YouTube video of the inside of a gothic castle at night, fire blaring and thunderstorms. It’s very atmospheric 😂

tizwozliz · 21/10/2025 19:03

We now have toys with annoying squeakers courtesy of the OH's brother. Just perfect for squeaking during work meetings 😂

I expect they'll shortly be de-squeakered so shouldn't matter for too much longer.

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 21/10/2025 19:23

@VanGoSunflowers
So pleased you enjoyed Six of Crows. I'm always anxious in case I recommend something and everyone hates it 😬

ACOTAR is very much "Romantasy" yes, and pretty steamy in places. I wasn't keen, found it a bit too girly - I described it to my chap as Mills & Boon with wings 🙄
But I loved the Throne of Glass series. The female lead in TOG is a lot more feisty and less helpless, it is far more character and story driven.

Is Alchemised the book that started out as a Harry Potter fanfic?

I'm starting Faithbreaker tonight, the final book in the Godkiller trilogy. No romance, not spicy, just a clever storyline.

Loving the image of your gothic castle, fire and thunderstorms, wrapped in furs with your faithful hound dozing at your feet ❤

VanGoSunflowers · 21/10/2025 19:30

@CoubousAndTourmaIet I found it a very enjoyable and pleasant read! The characters are very likeable, I enjoyed the story and the fantasy elements to it too.
TOG definitely sounds more up my street than ACOTAR in that case. And yes, I believe Alchemised started life as an HP fanfic but from what I have read, is very far removed from that now? I read a review of it on Amazon that gave me chills! Apparently it’s a tough read but I’d like to give it a go. After Crooked Kingdom though which has literally just been delivered! Yay!

There are quite a few others in the Grishaverse too from what I understand? So I may work my way through those as well. Did you prefer the Grishaverse books over TOG or the other way around?
