Not going to tag everyone as I don't know who wants to join. Welcome everyone. 😁

I have had two roofers here this morning. After the initial barking at heads appearing over the ridge, the dogs have been so good. They've sat in the garden and watched them working. Greeted them every time they came into the garden and didn't once try to bolt out of the gate. I heard one of the men telling them to 'stay' as he struggled through the gate with a bucket full of water, and then telling them they were 'good dogs'.
They've just finished and as they were leaving one commented on how calm my dogs are and not like 'normal spaniels'. See. Not all working cockers are 'high on crack' and 'manic'. 😇😇😇

Beautiful weather here today. 🌞 I unexpectedly got my car back yesterday. 🥳
Off to the woods to walk the adolescent nutter until she collapses in a heap. 😂

Yes, as Spaniels says, sorry if your trip is not for happy reasons @tizwozliz but I'm sure having your girls there makes a difference.
And no, even with an inside-out ear flap, it's still a great photo.

tizwozliz · 20/10/2025 11:12

I'm sure the dogs are convinced the carers come to visit them twice a day 😂

We'll take a trip to the pet shop after work (I'm still working whilst we're here) and pick up some food (technically not allowed to take pet food across to Europe now - we always take enough for a day or so only and risk confiscation) and see what other interesting treats we can find.

LandSharksAnonymous · 20/10/2025 11:32

@CoubousAndTourmaIet the other place is bonkers. I read the candle thread with my mouth open as I recognised some of the names (unsurprisingly) from other threads being nasty about people on benefits. I am sure there are people on here who just lurk around waiting to be nasty!

Her head is level with your waist!? God she really is big! The photos definitely don't do her size justice.

I know what you mean about books you can't put down! I've not slept before because I've been so engrossed in a book😁DDs have come down in the morning and I'm still sat there reading!

I guess at least the physio was polite and not underhand? I can remember a doctor telling me once that I 'looked healthy' - definitely code for 'you've got a bit tubby.'

@SpanielsGalore P is going to be so excited! But you're probably right, 30 minutes and she'll be wiped out. Will N and K come with?

@tizwozliz how long do you think you'll be there for? I hope you can find some decent food - it's always a gamble for me trying mine on new food.Usually results in upset tummies and lots of sad looks.

tizwozliz · 20/10/2025 11:39

We're planning to be here for 2 weeks right now. Luckily we can get exactly the same dry food as we feed them normally. Will probably end up getting essentials wet food as well for a topper, as they're fine with that (they only normally get it occasionally as it's £££)

brushingboots · 20/10/2025 11:58

@LandSharksAnonymous I didn’t want to succumb to the style either but, like crocs and obscene oversized hoodies, be they Oodies or otherwise, I have lent into the sartorial horror in the name of being warm and dry. I wore a cap this morning too and my head didn’t get at all wet so that’s the answer to the slightly shallow hood.

@SpanielsGalore I’m 5’7 and I got the S/M! It’s plenty big enough. I do look batty in it but I don’t care – it was pouring down this morning and I got home fully dry (except my socks which are still wet as the Gore-Tex in my trainers as clearly worn out.) I got mine from Regatta direct and paid £51 as I had a discount code. They are cheaper still on Amazon but I didn’t realise that until after I’d ordered my shoes too.

brushingboots · 20/10/2025 12:23

@LandSharksAnonymous Just realised I didn't actually answer your question and answered @CoubousAndTourmaIet's to you instead! Yes, it was the one you linked and I wholeheartedly recommend. I was a bit warm this morning but I will take being warm over wet any day. When the rain stopped I walked with it open and felt like I was wearing a sail but still beats being freezing and wet.

Pupsy is OK thank you! Passed out now upside down in her usual way looking like a princess.

SpanielsGalore · 20/10/2025 12:52

@brushingboots I'm just over 5' and shrinking according to the nurse who measured me the other week. So I'll try the XS/S or it will be down to my ankles. Fortunately I no longer give a shit what people think of me. 😂

Bad news from the vets. P's wound hasn't totally healed, so we have a steroid ointment to apply twice daily. The body suit stays on and she's still only allowed outside on lead. She is allowed to jump on and off furniture, so we'll still do away with the crate.
We went for a half hour on lead walk around the woods anyway, since we were half way there already.
K was very pleased to see P when we got home and immediately jumped all over her. 🙈 😂
Now off to walk K and then N. At least it's not raining today.

OP posts:
CoubousAndTourmaIet · 20/10/2025 13:23

Oh poor little P @SpanielsGalore , she and you must be fed up with her leotard by now, although not having to crate sounds like an improvement. Glad she managed a nice walk.

Height wise I'm midway between you and @brushingboots , I was 5'4", now 5'3", but considering that my mum was only 4'10" I can't really complain.

We have got rain, and the cows are back on the higher fields so we'll have to go in the other direction, which means it might be a wet mucky walk for us this afternoon.

tizwozliz · 20/10/2025 14:05

Oh, it's so annoying when you're expecting to get the all clear and it doesn't happen. Our older one had a bit of a reaction to the stitches so one wound opened up slightly so it took longer to heal and thus get the all clear than we'd hoped.

Managed to get to the pet shop at lunch so all stocked up.

LandSharksAnonymous · 20/10/2025 14:33

@tizwozliz Oh that's not too bad - no need to worry about funny tummies etc.

@brushingboots brilliant thanks (and to your @SpanielsGalore for pointing out they're cheaper on amazon)! Two bought for MIL and DMum, who can be twins next time we dog walk together. I guess you wouldn't want to walk with it open when it was windy, or you might be blown away 😂Feel free to share a pupsy photo in that pose...I never say no to spaniel photos - mostly so I can hold them up next to Satan and ask her if she's 100% sure she is a spaniel.

@SpanielsGalore poor P! Are her and K able to wrestle now though if she can jump on and off the sofa?

Does anyone ever look at their dog and wonder if they have a thought process? I just caught Eris being quite smart and now I'm wondering if she can problem solve. Hen pushed Eris away (as in literally pushed - she used her paw to push her across the wooden floor) and Eris sat there for a moment, looked a bit bamboozled, cocked her head to the side and then trotted round Hen, onto the carpet, and curled up behind her in a 'you can't move me now' type way! It's a the savviest I've ever seen any of my dogs act. Am I raising a genius? Or are the rest of mine just very thick...

tizwozliz · 20/10/2025 14:43

When big pup was little and very much not to be trusted, she used to go out in the hallway and be quiet, knowing I would get up to investigate the silence and then sprint past me and nab the arm chair I'd been sitting in.

SpanielsGalore · 20/10/2025 14:50

@LandSharksAnonymous Clever girl, Eris. ❤️ It's great when you see them have a light bulb moment.
P and K are allowed to play, but I'll have to keep an eye on them and stop it if it gets too rough.

@CoubousAndTourmaIet God I am so sick and tired of the body suit. If I never see another press stud it will be too soon.

@tizwozliz I was so disappointed. Never crossed my mind we wouldn't be given the all clear.

One of them is pleased to have their sister back. One of them is not so impressed.

Eris does sound like a bright pup @LandSharksAnonymous , but I imagine you would know that from comparing her with her siblings; I thought one of your reasons for keeping her related to that...?
Our PMD have all been pretty clever (aside from Magnus, who was nicknamed The Dope on a Rope) but we were pondering on yesterday's walk, whether we have Mensa Child Part 2 in Brie (Rosie being the first).

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 20/10/2025 15:54

Ugh! Drenched. I think we've just firmly established that Brie hates walking in the rain. No surprise, because all our others hated rain, but as a pup she didn't seem fussed. Today was pretty much a refusal to move. We managed to crawl around a 500 metre loop and came back to dry off.

LandSharksAnonymous · 20/10/2025 15:57

@CoubousAndTourmaIet I did indeed keep her because I thought she was smart (that and she got on well with the existing dogs)! But I didn't expect to see any critical thinking skills from her 😀

Oh bless Brie! All mine love the rain - we had a lovely walk in the downpour earlier. The best thing about rainy dog walks is there's hardly ever anyone else around.

@SpanielsGalore One does definitely look happier than the other. P has a fantastic unimpressed face, I must say. Bless them though for sharing a basket! The one down-side of bigger dogs is I can't get photos of them snuggled up together in baskets or beds, because they don't really snuggle. Did they say when P might have the bodysuit off?

SpanielsGalore · 20/10/2025 18:13

@LandSharksAnonymous We have another week of it. It's even more of a pain now she isn't in the cage. Every time K wants to go outside, P wants to go too. So it's lead on. Body suit undone and rolled up. Outside for 30 seconds to see what K is up to and then back inside.
If I hadn't packed the cage away already, she'd be back in it. 😂

OP posts:
tizwozliz · 20/10/2025 18:36

Is she showing any signs of bothering her wound? I'd be tempted to only have the bodysuit on when not able to supervise if she's not paying it any attention. Little pup hated hers so much, we only put it on overnight

tizwozliz · 20/10/2025 18:43

I know lots of people think Facebook has had its day, but I'm loving my memories at the moment

@tizwozliz Stunning scenery, made even better by the addition of the dogs. 💖
Unfortunately P is a licker. She's trying her best even with the suit on. I did fleetingly think I'd swap it for a cone to make my life easier, but she'd hate it. Plus K has been showing a lot of interest in P's stomach since she's been out of the cage, so I think she'd lick it for her.

OP posts:
CoubousAndTourmaIet · 20/10/2025 19:03

Do bigger dogs not snuggle @LandSharksAnonymous ?
Nobody told ours that...unless it was boiling hot they always slept snuggled together.

LandSharksAnonymous · 20/10/2025 20:28

@SpanielsGalore another week must feel like an age! How is P otherwise? She must be feeling a bit better if she's up to following K around?

@tizwozliz your labs really are in absolutely beautiful condition.

Tbh, everyone on this thread's dogs are in beautiful conditions. It makes me very happy

@CoubousAndTourmaIet possibly because I have so many of them? I've never had had less than four Goldies at a time, and four in a snuggle would probably overheat themselves in seconds! Even when we cuddle at night, they only last 5/10 minutes snuggling me before they all waddle off to their own corners of the bed. Even Eris' litter didn't really snuggle that much...maybe I'm just breeding anti-social dogs 😂

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 20/10/2025 20:34

I don't know @LandSharksAnonymous , maybe our three were unusual in loving to lie together. I'm sure the dynamic is always going to be different when you have more. A bit like when we had 6 cats together; certain ones got on and shared a bed, others didn't.

SpanielsGalore · 20/10/2025 22:10

@LandSharksAnonymous P's better than she's been in a long time. Apart from the leg, she's pretty much back to her normal anti-social self. Which is why today was so disappointing.

Have they said anything more about the pancreatitis @SpanielsGalore ? Just with you saying she seems better in herself. Hopefully it has settled.

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 20/10/2025 22:29

We've just had a complete refusal to go down and do a last wee, because the grass is wet. I bet the little sod will wake me at 3 or 4 because she's desperate 🙄
