Just a bit of fun.

Personally I have had 2 Westies, a miniture Dachshund and a Beagle. Sausage was the most beautiful, Westies most independant, Beagle most cuddly. Frankly I don't think I could pick a favorite breed.

Staffies. Ours is like a big soppy breeze block. No concept of personal space and thinks everyone he meets loves him.

MondeoFan · 28/07/2025 14:36

Pomeranian - nothing like a crazy ball of fur running up and down, wiggling their backside, walking in quite a “posh” way and being the most loyal, loving dog

Fibrous · 28/07/2025 14:46

Greyhound. If you know, you know. Also, I’ve never met another greyhound owner I didn’t like, which is always a good testament to a breed.

HorribleHisTories15 · 28/07/2025 14:49

Border Terriers , cutest and most loyal imvho. They are also great with kids. Unbelievably so.

currently have a border and unknown terrier mix. He is a sweetheart.

RaraRachael · 28/07/2025 14:50

@Fibrous we go on greyhound meet ups and walks and the owners have all been as lovely as the dogs.

RabbitsRock · 28/07/2025 14:53

I initially read that as favourite bread lol 🤣

DominoRules · 28/07/2025 15:00

Springer Spaniel - loyal, loving, intelligent and so much fun! They need a lot from you to keep them fulfilled but what you get back is worth every second.

Utterly adore my boy and would happily have a whole pack of them! Number 2 hopefully arriving in October and we’re already planning when to get number 3…….

Dozycuntlaters · 28/07/2025 15:01

Border terrier. So full of personality with a wonderful nature. For me it was border terrier or nothing, and I definitely made the right choice.

Yeah love a greyhound gathering! And the fashion parade (hounds not humans usually).

Coffeeishot · 28/07/2025 15:04

Bernese mountain dogs OR .French mastiffs I have neither but they are my favourite especially as pups, who can resist giant puppies.!

I have a cocker spaniel hes a delight but he is a very busy dog.

Arran2024 · 28/07/2025 15:06

Bernese mountain dogs. I am on nos 3 and 4. It's their looks for me, and the long hair. When I was growing up we had golden retrievers - they love the water, but none of my bmds has been a fan, which is fine by me!

Boxingshibes · 28/07/2025 15:09

We have Shiba inus. See user name.
I had labradors growing up.
my 2 boys are brilliant dogs, placid, dont bark and so cute, but my God the floof! Hair everywhere and vv stubborn.
Awesome though.

TerrierCollector · 28/07/2025 15:11

I've had a lot of terriers, and I just love terriers as a whole, but my favourite would either be a border or a Bedlington. Both just the right mix of sweet and feisty that makes terriers so great, but also pretty easy-going and easy to train, too.

rumred · 28/07/2025 15:12

As a dog fosterer and adopter I've realised all breeds are great. I would absolutely never have chosen a frenchie but we had one to foster (used and abused for breeding) and she's a joy.
I don't get the obsession with a certain breed. In fact I think it's unhealthy and has led to the ridiculous fashion dog problems we have as a society.

All dogs have character. Some more than others.

Turnoffthelight · 28/07/2025 15:13

Border terrier

They are the best.

UnderCoverB0ss · 28/07/2025 15:16

Another Hungarian Vizsla voter here. Absolutely love our two loopy girls. I don’t think we’ll have any other breed

I do agree with this, from a Kennel Club perspective. The show versions of most breeds are completely incapable of doing the job they were bred to do and it’s disgusting. We have a working line basset, a lot of people are surprised because she’s very energetic and lean compared to what they expect. I get sad seeing show ones.

Ezesonfire · 28/07/2025 15:31

Border Terrier.
Big dogs in a little body.
Super intelligent, bags of personality and wholesomely loyal.

I might be biased….. !

GaladrielHiggins · 28/07/2025 15:43

Labradors, happy to be doing anything with you, so easy to train, intelligent but not too intelligent (looking at you herding breeds), they are quite big and hairy so you have to be prepared for that, I think “muscular enthusiasm” describes them best. Love them so much!

People who say "I don't get the obsession with a certain breed" have never found their perfect breed.

namechangeGOT · 28/07/2025 15:51

I have a boxer, a black lab and a black mini schnauzer. I adore the bones of the lot of them but my heart belongs to schnauzers!

I agree with you in part. There is less of a distinction between work and show in our breed overall than in some hounds and gundogs, but we do favour French and working lines, and don't like a dog with heavy bone. Ours have all been on the leaner side and very agile for such a large breed.

Sometimes the breed you want has characteristics that you can't find in other breeds.

NotrialNodeal · 28/07/2025 17:53

Akitas!
Insanely gorgeous, intelligent, fiercely protective, profoundly loyal and independent.
In sum, perfection!

Ezzee · 28/07/2025 19:45

Growing up we had many different breeds, some working some not, my favourite dogs were a rottie, a staff and a cocker.
I have 2 dogs that we adopted, DD1 is a staff/ rottie and DD2 a staff/ cccker.
They just looked like potatoes when babies and were both runts of their litters so were a little older to be adopted, lucky for us as they are amazing love bugs.
