Bonnie is home!

We are utterly in love!

She’s doing really well and we’ve had no toilet accidents indoors in 3 days now, she’s learnt her name and to sit already and she’s sleeping 5 hours consistently overnight!

She is however VERY bitey! We’ve been stopping the game / play / stroke when she bites to try and reinforce no attention if biting but it’s constant and she goes back to being bitey seconds later. It’s only been 5 days so it’s still early days.

Have signed her up for puppy classes for once she’s fully vaccinated and looking forward to this. She’s so intelligent I’m sure she will learn quickly once she develops an attention span longer than 3 seconds.

She’s great with the cats, it definitely helps that her breeder had cats! One cat has started to relax around her and will sit close but not touching. The other cat has retreated upstairs and is taking longer to come round. They’ve both lived with dogs before so I’m sure they will be fine in time.

Clarissaclaire · 09/05/2025 09:27

Absolutely adorable. 🥰

alcoholnightmare · 09/05/2025 09:28

Oh she’s gorgeous! Welcome to Mumsnet Bonnie!

jaundicedoutlook · 09/05/2025 17:14

Very similar to our new addition, who we’re also finding likes a nibble - feet in particular are a target…

Did you get to meet the parents?

Of course! She’s fully KC registered, from health tested parents and a breeder recommend by the breed club that we found after a year of looking for the right one. Why are you assuming I’ve bought her from a puppy farm?

OP posts:
OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 09/05/2025 19:46

because sadly so many do buy from puppy farms, and Wales is full of puppy farms.

Foreverfrustrated97 · 09/05/2025 19:48

And many decent breeders exist in Wales also. The location a puppy is from does not signify that they are from a puppy farm. Plus the poster asked me where she was from straight away, I assume she doesn’t ask that on every post about a puppy so I’m wondering what made her think she was puppy farmed?

I think they’ve made the incorrect assumption that your puppy is a ‘designer cross’ rather than a miniature poodle.

stayathomegardener · 09/05/2025 20:34

That’s not a puppy… a tiny ginger bear 💚

Yes - with cavalier and bichon, so a mutt really, but a cute one!

dollyblue01 · 09/05/2025 21:03

You lucky thing she’s absolutely gorgeous and obv doesn’t mind the cat either that’s a plus x

It has been impressive when carrying her round to socialise how many people think poodles are born with shaved faces and assume an unshaved poodle is in fact a doodle. I’m sure she will be more recognisable after her first proper groom.

She’s sweet, will you clip her like a poodle??

Eventually yes. We are hoping to do some agility and water retrieving with her when she’s older so for practicality a poodle clip works, just the simple face and feet through rather than a show clip.

Don’t withdraw attention for biting. Shove a toy in and go with it. They’ll grow out of it and you’ll have a much more solid relationship than confusing them by ignoring. Dogs need to bite. Teach them now WHAT to bite.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 21/05/2025 19:10

@BarkItOff
how are you all getting on? Any updated pics ? 🐶😊

BarkItOff · 21/05/2025 20:36

She’s amazing!

Such a sweet and cuddly girl (80% of the time) and the other 20% she’s a hyperactive land shark!

She’s mastered toilet training already and is reliably using the toilet in the garden now. She’s learnt how to sit and lie down on command and is doing pretty well with her recall over short distances as long as there’s no distractions around so pretty good progress in just over 2 weeks.

Second vaccine next week and I’m looking forward to being able to take her out more once it’s safe to do so. She’s had a couple of outings while being carried and tried her first doggy ice cream!
