I've buckled again, I can't take the pressure of being on page 40 😄

Panicking again! Will probably run away and hide.

@VanGoSunflowers
Thank you for kind words 💐and I need to 🤐

(Husband is now joking that my theme song is Anarchy in the UK with lyric changed to "I am the anti-crate..." )😳

Not at all, that poster was being out of order and I personally don’t think you should stop talking about it either! You detailing your experience of an alternative way (not that crating should be seen as standard but you get what I mean) is useful not only for me, but anyone else reading! Crates do get pushed an awful lot and, while I am carrying on with it (as it does seem to be going well) if he all of a sudden doesn’t like it and is against it I won’t panic and I will try a different way without a crate.

Don’t run in this heat 😉

VanGoSunflowers · 20/06/2025 13:56

This thread is so useful! I’m reading along thinking “no constant and inconsiderate ball throwing, check” 😂
Obviously for when pupper is old enough for those types of shenanigans. I bumped in to a dog trainer the other day and he was describing the best way to ‘throw’ a ball to give least amount of pressure on joints the way you describe @brushingboots

I know I am late to saying this @YorkshireFelix but I’m glad your few mins of fear had a good ending this morning!

ETA: His name is Pablo but I have taken to referring to him as pupper 😂

Thank you, you are kind.
I don't think the issue was with me. But I'm not bringing that debate here. Nor am I tr011ing.

I keep saying that you'll find the way with your boy, and I honestly believe you will.

I always fear that I come across as opinionated because in reality I'm a mouse.
I've never felt that I wasn't keeping my puppies safe, but I didn't get everything right, even with Brie. If I could go back, I wouldn't wait until the 14 week Nobivac before getting her out to socialise, that's for sure. That's held her back massively.

So much more to learn, always. With the next pup I'll do better. I hope...

CoubousAndTourmalet · 20/06/2025 14:08

Awww, Pablo is such a lovely name @VanGoSunflowers

Balls can become a complete obsession if not used sparingly, I think that's part of the issue. As with everything, it's about finding a balance.

YorkshireFelix · 20/06/2025 14:53

Pablo is a great name!

The physio thinks he’s just tweaked his original injury so it’s not too bad thankfully. He’s had it lasered and has another session next Friday. She said on-lead walks only for the next week and we’ll see how he is. His jumping into the boot days have been dramatically cut short 🤣

brushingboots · 20/06/2025 15:05

@YorkshireFelix If only you could get him into the pool for some hydrotherapy!

CoubousAndTourmalet · 20/06/2025 15:12

Glad you were able to get Vinny checked out by the physio so quickly @YorkshireFelix I hope all goes well.

Funny you should mention hydrotherapy @brushingboots - my cousin's daughter, who's a student vet, has just done a two week work placement at a canine hydrotherapy pool and she said it was amazing.

Bupster · 20/06/2025 15:20

God, so much to catch up with! I was up and out by 7am this morning with himself - the pond on the common was full of weed, and the stream had entirely dried up, and I wouldn't let him explore the remains of the enormous puddle/pond as last time I nearly lost a wellie in the mud and I was wearing trainers today. He's really sleepy as he had two days at daycare so not many naps, and it's such a relief - also he's been happy to pee in the back yard which is a massive relief (presumably for both of us!)

Got him out last night to the cemetery in a cooling coat no problem - it's really cloudy so I'm hoping the pavements won't be too hot, and I can do the same today and tomorrow. Thanking crazed perimenopausal past me right now for the aircon which is making it possible for him to nap in comfort and for both of us to sleep.

@YorkshireFelix , fingers crossed for poor little Vinnie! I would have had twelve heart attacks losing Bill for that length of time.

@LandSharksAnonymous all hail the Sex Duck. Which I'm now singing in my head to the tune of Tom Jones' Sex Bomb, and now you all will be too. You're welcome.

Thanks so much for the earworm @Bupster . The word duck offers us so much with regard to improvising the lyrics...🤔

YorkshireFelix · 20/06/2025 16:18

There’s a doggy swimming pool near me in Bradford where you can book a slot and actually get in the pool with your dog. But that gives me the boak a little bit, thinking about all the random dogs that have been in there 🤢

brushingboots · 20/06/2025 16:29

@YorkshireFelix We took pupsy to a doggy pool a few miles up the road from us when she had a sore shoulder last summer and couldn’t run but needed to burn energy. It’s a great place, super clean, not weird, run by a great lady, all wet-suited up… but she screamed throughout. Not sure if she was scared or confused or what. We thought, oh, she’s not ready for swimming, maybe she’s too young still. Went back a few months later with two of her doggy friends – both them loved it, she continued to stand at the top of the ramp and scream. She would only swim if I swam with her. Wouldn’t retrieve anything, just stood there barking at the water. I think the water was simply too clean as now she will throw herself in any body of water with no issue whatever and doesn’t expect me to join her.

Bored of working I just had a little paddle in the pool. She came outside with me, hoping that we could play with her ball. I chucked it in the pool and she promptly forgot that she had any interest in the ball at all and just curled up on the grass next to me. Weird dog.

SpanielsGalore · 20/06/2025 16:37

@YorkshireFelix Glad V hasn't done too much damage. Hopefully he'll soon be back to normal.

I've just come back from walking my two youngsters. It's 16° here, but feels like 14° with the wind chill factor. I wish I'd taken my coat. 😫😂

CoubousAndTourmalet · 20/06/2025 16:46

You don't want a lodger do you @SpanielsGalore ?
28 degrees here currently 😵

VanGoSunflowers · 20/06/2025 17:05

I put ice cubes in pupper‘s water bowl earlier to cool him down. He plucked them out and chased them around the kitchen instead. Mission very much not accomplished

Does he paddle in the water bowl yet? We've had two paddlers and a bowl carrier🙄

Brie is just munching on an organic carrot. She's coping okay with the heat so far.

Yep. It’s one of his favourite ways to pass time 😂 has a good old dig around in there!

And as for my comment earlier about it being a while before I will have to provide a sex toy for my dog, he is currently humping the stuffed toy I got him for comfort 🤦‍♀️

CoubousAndTourmalet · 20/06/2025 18:14

@VanGoSunflowers Ohhhh, he's starting young....😳

CoubousAndTourmalet · 20/06/2025 18:19

Spoke too soon about Brie coping well. Poor baby is sweltering because some kind soul nearby has lit a stove or firepit, so we've had to close every window. Smoke is my main asthma trigger too, so we are not happy right now 😠

VanGoSunflowers · 20/06/2025 18:35

@CoubousAndTourmalet i know!! I wasn’t expecting it this early but then what do I know 😂

Ah sorry to hear you’re both struggling! I’m praying for either the fire to stop, the temperature to cool down or both for you!

😂puppies love to do it when they get stimulated but can’t find an outlet. Did he fall asleep mid-hump? Twatdog does that sometimes and it always makes me laugh

😂😂 he didn’t this time but that would definitely be his MO I think!

We were just sat out in the garden and he started investigating the back fence very seriously. Something (I don’t know what) spooked him and he started to run back to me but then decided to turn around and bark and whatever it was he took issue with. I haven’t heard him bark properly yet! I thought it was someone else’s dog at first as it was a real big boy bark 🥰

That's pretty amazing for a pup of that age! I'm very impressed. And maybe slightly jealous of the big boy bark...
(My "guard dog" on the other hand, is definitely defective. I really should take her back and exchange her for one that works...🤔)

I know! And I didn’t think labs were guarding breeds at all so it took me by surprise!

This is a question to everyone but do you ever wonder how your dog would react if they saw you in any danger? It’s too early to tell but I think mine would lick the perpetrator to death 😂

VanGoSunflowers · 20/06/2025 21:36

It’s been so wonderful to see his confidence develop over such a short space of time! I love spending time with him but I love watching him just be a dog and do dog things
