I've buckled again, I can't take the pressure of being on page 40 😄

No euphemisms @LandSharksAnonymous I was just trying to think of the biggest creature.
Then again, I do have a 50 year old, 4 foot tall, teddy bear (whose name is Geordie), sitting on a rocking chair in my living room, so perhaps I don't actually need to buy anything at all... 🤔

VanGoSunflowers · 19/06/2025 17:06

Has anyone considered going on Dragon’s den to flog sex toys for dogs?

CoubousAndTourmalet · 20/06/2025 06:47

Good Morning!

I hope everyone is surviving. Brie has had her early morning wander up the lane at 6am. It's 18 degrees already here 😬We are not liking it. even the cat is crashed out and off her food.

Take care and stay cool, folks x

LandSharksAnonymous · 20/06/2025 07:29

@VanGoSunflowers It would probably be a huge hit tbh…no need to play euromillions anymore!

@CoubousAndTourmalet same! Walk done. Dogs knackered. I’m knackered. Time to vegetate in the shade.

DDs are trying to persuade me to let them have a long weekend and keep them off school as it’s so hot! Usually I’d say no, but the thought of having two extra pairs of hands around is very tempting…plus they’ve been very good this week helping take care of Pen and pups…but that’s probably because they’re still trying to convince me to let whichever one we keep be ‘their dog.’

Hopefully it’ll cool down soon! I think they said it would only last another day or two didn’t they?

I was very lucky last night, we fell asleep on the sofa together whilst watching a film. Woke up at 11pm, out for toilet and then in the crate where he remained sound asleep until 5.30am - even though I slept on the sofa and not the floor! I will be back in bed before we know it 😂

He’s in a great mood this morning!

I would get right on to the designs but I’m more of an ideas that never get executed person 😂

A day off school to help look after puppies sounds like a dream 😍 anyway - it’s still
educational 😉
How old are DDs if you don’t mind me asking?

tizwozliz · 20/06/2025 08:08

Argh, the good weather brings out all the littering idiots who then also like to take a 💩 in the bushes for good measure

CoubousAndTourmalet · 20/06/2025 08:24

Puppy care is definitely educational @LandSharksAnonymous I hope there won't end up being too much friction over which pup stays...

Oh what a good boy he is @VanGoSunflowers

Yuck! That's horrible @tizwozliz The downside of living in a touristy area.

tizwozliz · 20/06/2025 08:31

Haha, we definitely do not live in a touristy area! They were catching drug dealers on electric bikes in our closest walking spot two nights ago

CoubousAndTourmalet · 20/06/2025 08:36

That sounds a bit scary @tizwozliz !
I had thought you were referring to wild campers (or travellers) - we used to come across their toilet spots when we lived in Westmorland...😬

tizwozliz · 20/06/2025 08:43

All the people that moan about dog poo, I was blissfully ignorant about how much human poo was about until I had dogs. My two are experts at finding it (and eating it given the chance 🤢)

LandSharksAnonymous · 20/06/2025 08:49

@CoubousAndTourmalet - any puppy is the goal, for them I think!

@VanGoSunflowers they're 11 (just turned) and 12. So, at that age where they know it's hard work...but also young enough that they haven't entirely thought it through - such as, if/when they go to Uni who looks after their dog? 😃Great news that he's making progress though. You must be so excited to return to your bed!

I did stay strong: they have been sent off to school with a gentle reminder that they do only have about a week left before summer holidays, and at this point all puppies do is sleep and eat (they haven't even opened their eyes yet). Their help will be enlisted when it comes to the mass piddling stage!

@tizwozliz we had an issue like that near us. The council ended up blocking off all the gazebos in the park (literally, they've closed them all off with huge chunks of wooden cardboard type stuff) because people kept doing it in them. Very grim. Give me doggy gifts any day over human ones.

Oh god, yes! Let's have a barbecue in the woods, drink 20 cans of Stella and leave everything behind, including poo and the toilet roll we brought with us.
I used to have a dog that enjoyed eating human faeces. Then on the way home, he'd sit on the back seat leaning over my shoulder and pant in my face. 🤢🤢

CoubousAndTourmalet · 20/06/2025 09:44

This heat is making me cranky, while my dear dog is calmly, placidly getting on with it, despite her layers of fur. I wish I had her patience...

YorkshireFelix · 20/06/2025 10:22

Sex duck is excellent, plus the accompanying photos!!

Vinny gave me a fright last night. I walked him on the field at 9pm, and he didn’t actually hoof it after the bunnies this time. But he did eventually get over that way and disappeared in the undergrowth. The field backs onto the woods so you can cut through at various points. I heard a very loud and pained yelp then he disappeared. I was searching in the woods for what felt like an eternity then he reappeared as he must have followed the sound of the whistle back. I think he has caught the leg he had issues with then ran off in a panic, as he was so worried when he found me again. We got home and he looked a bit wobbly on that leg and was limping again. I’ve got him in at the physio today, just waiting to hear back what time. He seems fine this morning thankfully but I’ll be gutted if it’s set him back with his leg injury again as he was doing so well.

He scared me to death!! I saw a dog walker when we got back to the car and she said she’d seen him running full pelt through the woods and heard me blowing the whistle but obviously couldn’t catch him. Thank god he found his way back to me.

SpanielsGalore · 20/06/2025 10:30

@YorkshireFelix It's always a bit of a panic when they disappear. Even two minutes can seem like eternity. Thank god he managed to follow the whistle back to you. That's why I like the whistle. It seems to penetrate their brain when your voice doesn't/can't. I hope he hasn't done too much damage to his leg and a spot of physio will see him right again.

Nella68 · 20/06/2025 10:34

I’ve been out for a very slow sniffy walk in the woods opposite. I can manage to do a loop through the shaded parts and avoid most of the dog walkers (lots). I can’t believe there are people who are still using their ball chuckers in full sunlight on the open meadow part. Midge was panting after an amble in the shade!

@LandSharksAnonymous how are the puppies coping in the heat? I remember there being a heatwave when my twins were newborn. I was paranoid they would overheat.

@YorkshireFelix I hope that Vinny hasn’t had a set back with his leg- fingers crossed 🤞

CoubousAndTourmalet · 20/06/2025 10:34

Sorry Vinny gave you such a fright @YorkshireFelix and I really hope he's okay.

YorkshireFelix · 20/06/2025 10:40

Thanks all. I’m so glad I remembered the whistle as it’s very common for me to forget it. He stuck by my side like glue on the way back to the car 😄

@Nella68 it’s amazed me seeing how many people have their dogs out and about when it’s 27 degrees out. I mean fair enough if you have to do a very short toilet walk or to get to a shaded spot, but I saw loads ambling through the high street and out with kids at the park in the height of the sun yesterday. Poor dogs must have been roasting.

Our paddling pool arrived and as expected V isn’t interested. But dd happily sat in it in the yard last night 😂

brushingboots · 20/06/2025 11:10

Ahhh noooo, poor V @YorkshireFelix. Really hope he’s OK.

Hello @Nella68! How nice to see you. Strong agree about the ball chucking lot. Last night I went out to find some shade at about 7.30 – couldn’t wait any longer, had to get on with my evening – and there was a chap chucking a ball back and forth for a good half an hour with his lab nearby in the evening sun. Absolutely mental. As previously discussed I think that’s mental in any heat but especially in this weather.

We did 70 minutes out this morning from about 9am but it’s cloudy here today and windy so not too bad, and we could stick almost entirely to the shade and/or woods. She very nearly caught a squirrel by accident but somehow it got away. Hoping that is the most excitement that today brings as the heat is making me tired.

CoubousAndTourmalet · 20/06/2025 11:16

There's a ball chucker on the meadow here too @Nella68 @brushingboots
A man with two black Labs, who is on there for hours every day, flinging the ball in different directions, seemingly oblivious to everyone else quietly walking their dogs. I admit, we haven't been on there this week, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's still continuing the daily routine.

brushingboots · 20/06/2025 11:25

@CoubousAndTourmalet I think the obliviousness of it is the thing that really does my head in – putting aside the damage to the poor dogs’ joints. Whenever I see our local ball chucker man I give him a huge wide berth because I don’t want pupsy running after things that aren’t hers and though she’s pretty steady she’s still a dog and sometimes she fancies chasing a ball. I so resent how much he takes up the space when he’s there – he might be walking round the outside, but the ball goes so far and wide that he’s basically using all of it.

I throw stuff around on my walks all the time – dummies and balls to hide for pupsy to find as well as traditional retrieves – but I don’t do it when I think there’s a risk that someone else’s dog might find it first and ruin my exercise, or if I spot another dog that might run after my retrieve, therefore potentially ruining their own training in not chasing other people's balls and mine.

I guess the fact that I’ve even vocalised that shows the difference though. A lot of people simply don’t care about who or what is around them.

LandSharksAnonymous · 20/06/2025 11:39

@YorkshireFelix glad you got him back! You must have been terrified and I bet he was as well. Is he still clingy today or more back to normal? Hope it goes well at the physio!

@Nella68 they're okay! I have a few fans in the room so it keeps the heat down a bit and thankfully the room doesn't get the sun at all. I'm more worried about if it's still like this in a few weeks - trying to stop 11 puppies going manic in playtime and giving themselves some sort of heat-related injury is going to be tough.

Glad I'm not the only one who rolls my eyes at the ball-chuckers! Thankfully, my local walking route doesn't tend to have them when I go, but we do have a few rollerbladers who zoom along at top speed with their poor dogs gasping for air behind them.

tizwozliz · 20/06/2025 12:31

We've had tantrums and sulks here as older pup isn't happy that I'm restricting walks to when it's less than 25 degrees. I think we might go for a trip in the air conditioned car to the air conditioned pet shop after work.

CoubousAndTourmalet · 20/06/2025 13:36

Panicking again! Will probably run away and hide.

@VanGoSunflowers
