All aboard Podsquad, it's Pod thread number 4.

In case you were wondering:

  • What is this (surprisingly) long-running thread about? A unique lunatic rescue Podenco, known as Pod. Featuring his pals, Stanley, GentleHowl, BabyPod, GentleBounce, Fastest and Princess and many more.
  • What makes you so special that you get your own thread? See above

Seriously, if anyone is considering getting a teenage/rescued/sight-hound/Podenco/all of the above and has NO idea what they're doing, please enjoy the previous instalments from the day we brought him home, to now, six months later. Posts will oscillate wildly from euphoric to mental breakdown and back again.

Here is thread No. 3 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/thedoghouse/5248472-they-love-a-bit-of-him-podlife?page=1

Here is thread No. 2 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/thedoghouse/5197068-the-pod-cast?page=39&reply=141216881

And thread No. 1 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/thedoghouse/5177112-oh-my-giddy-god?page=1

Pic of the handsome prick in question.

Oh, gross gross gross!!

Re sleeping bags - my friend makes these fabulous ones (in doggy and human sizes - I've got one 😁) https://www.jacobsden.co.uk/sofa-sack.html

That's lovely!

Daughter has a whippet and is thinking of getting something like that to save being woken up by doggy wanting to get in bed, then out again, then back in...

Shesellsseashellsnotinmystreet · 01/10/2025 12:01

Those sacks may be the best ddoggy essential I have ever seen....

spiderlight · 01/10/2025 12:34

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 30/09/2025 20:19

Apologies for going off topic but @spiderlight is your friend the same one who posted her struggles with Jacob and his poorly legs on Dogpages many years ago? That was the start of my involvement with rescue dogs.

Yes she is! I was on DP back then as well - wondering whether I know you now!

WiddlinDiddlin · 01/10/2025 14:58

Bwahahaha.. I was on DP too.. back in the day. I am still friends with some of the old mods!

spiderlight · 01/10/2025 15:49

We'll need a 'Who were you on DP' sub thread at this rate!

WiddlinDiddlin · 02/10/2025 04:02

Oh nooo... I was an argumentative late teen/early adult, got banned several times and the board owner at one point pretty much stalked and harrassed me and a friend (he really, reallllllllllly did not like educated, intelligent women).

Very strange bloke indeed! But I did meet some good people who are still friends now umpteenthingy years down the line! So alls well that ends well innit!

spiderlight · 02/10/2025 10:14

He was a strange 'un, he really was! I think there was a whole 'Banned from Dogpages' forum at one point. I was never cool enough to be banned though.

WiddlinDiddlin · 02/10/2025 11:30

I had entirely forgotten the Banned from DP forum... i was on it, did not think that made me cool at the time haha!

HangingOver · 02/10/2025 22:36

Does anyone else wish they hadn't used such stupid vocal cues that have stuck?

Pod really responds to "Want a snacko??" Said in a stupid over the top voice which is absolutely fine when it's just us two but I feel like a total prat calling it to him.

Rubbish night in my house although Pods been angelic today. It's the anniversary of DMs death tomorrow and DP accidentally bought alcoholic Estrellas instead of the zero ones (very similar packaging) and I downed a whole can and now feel like I've lost my five years 😭

Weirdly, feeling pissed isn't as nice as I remember.

Scampuss · 02/10/2025 23:14

Oh Hanging Flowers

If I was out walking and heard "want a snacko" in a sing song calling a dog voice I'd smile and my day would be brightened, so don't worry, you will make people smile.

My three ago cat only ever answered to "wossiss" (what's this?").

HangingOver · 02/10/2025 23:21

Sorry I feel the need to clarify my last message. I genuinely drank it by accident. About ten minutes later my head felt heavy and that's when I inspected the can.

To me, anniversaries are always tough, and having a dog, I don’t know, it kinda makes you more emotional? (Well it does me 😳😳) Dogs make you realise how short (their) life is.

I also talk to Bruce in a stupid squeaky voice all the time 😳😳 yes it’s embarrassing outside of the house 😳😳 and just plain embarrassing for Bruce all the time (poor dog)

it must be nearly a year since Pod came into your life? Take time tomorrow to reflect tomorrow and be kind to yourself

Ps Drink a pint of water if you can, it’ll help with your head xx

eggandonion · 02/10/2025 23:42

Have more water before you get up.
My neighbour used to shout treat treat treat in a squeaky voice. Her lovely dog died last autumn...I miss hearing it!

WiddlinDiddlin · 03/10/2025 04:09

Drink more water - I hate the feeling of even slightly pissed now, as it's been so long, horrible, I can't fathom how I ever liked it!

I have to go in the garden and shout WEE WEES in a really stupid voice to remind the old duffer what he went out for. And I have to shout it as he's partially deaf too. I feel a proper prat, 17 years ago me didn't really think that one through.

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 03/10/2025 10:31

Ha ha it always pays to think about your cues in advance. Mine did their best recall to 'chicken wings'. I heard about someone using 'housekeeping!' as an invitation to come and clear up any kitchen spills. And I spent ages a while back trying to put peeing on cue until I tried 'outside please' which is what I automatically said every night when putting them out for the last time. She immediately performed but the best thing was the way she looked at me, I swear she was saying 'why on earth didn't you say that was what you wanted in the first place'.

Ellmau · 03/10/2025 10:56

That's brilliant, @MontyDonsBlueScarf !

A reminder they don't understand the actual words, just what they associate them with :)

We used "busy" for our girl.

HangingOver · 03/10/2025 12:58

I was also overheard absent mindedly singing one of my many dog jingles to Pod as i put him in the car. I'm not even embarassed.

Feel much much better today. Gave the beer to my neighbour, who was delighted. "Wow, free piss on a Friday!", direct quote.

The STORM is coming. I'm sitting in the storm room (it's really the sunroom, but in storms in gets called the storm room) listening to the rain and trying to wiggle out of my back pain.

Pod is a prawn, gently snoozin'. Downton later, appropriate today as DM would have loved it. I shall raise a coke zero/medium pop-corn to her in my head.

What is Pod's Instagram account? I am totally invested in his life and need to see Podcam please😂

NotISaidTheCat · 03/10/2025 15:10

You haven't lost your 5 years, Hanging. It was an honest mistake. I think you can disregard it with a completely clear conscience.

I hardly drink at all now, maybe 2-3 times a year on special occasions. Love the feeling of it at the time, but my body definitely can't cope with the aftermath anymore!

HangingOver · 06/10/2025 10:47

Pod has a cold!

I don't know why, it never occured to me that doggies could get colds. His snoot is wetter than usual and he keeps sneezing. It's clear like water rather than snotty. My poor boy! He's fine otherwise though so I don't think I'll bother the vet with it at the moment. I'm going to wrap him up in my duvet.

OP posts:
rainbowruthie · 06/10/2025 13:13

Poor sneezy Pod, get well soon you beautiful boy

FeralWoman · 06/10/2025 13:23

Definitely nothing up his nostrils, like a bit of grass?

Hope he feels better soon.

How’s the overnight sleeping location going? Has he trialled the spare bedroom for a warmer sleep?

HangingOver · 07/10/2025 12:45

I'm bringing him to the vet today just to check him over as he's very sneezy and droopy today.

Tear-jerkingly gorgeous video on Pod's Insta story today btw.

OP posts:
FeralWoman · 07/10/2025 15:48

Poor Pod. Colds suck. Hopefully they can give him some doggy pain relief and doggy antihistamines and help him to feel better.

HangingOver · 07/10/2025 16:38

Then vet thinks it's kennel cough 😭 why can't I keep this poor boy well.
