All aboard Podsquad, it's Pod thread number 4.

In case you were wondering:

  • What is this (surprisingly) long-running thread about? A unique lunatic rescue Podenco, known as Pod. Featuring his pals, Stanley, GentleHowl, BabyPod, GentleBounce, Fastest and Princess and many more.
  • What makes you so special that you get your own thread? See above

Seriously, if anyone is considering getting a teenage/rescued/sight-hound/Podenco/all of the above and has NO idea what they're doing, please enjoy the previous instalments from the day we brought him home, to now, six months later. Posts will oscillate wildly from euphoric to mental breakdown and back again.

Here is thread No. 3 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/thedoghouse/5248472-they-love-a-bit-of-him-podlife?page=1

Here is thread No. 2 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/thedoghouse/5197068-the-pod-cast?page=39&reply=141216881

And thread No. 1 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/thedoghouse/5177112-oh-my-giddy-god?page=1

My lovely vet prescribed a steroid injection and some gabapentin for tonight. The poor boy is absolutely exhausted. She thinks it's colitis. Poor boy has barely moved today he's so tired. Thank fuuuuuuuuuck it's Friday! I've foundered through work so time for a nap!!

FeralWoman · 18/07/2025 16:28

I hope that does the trick and helps him to feel better and for everyone to get a better night’s sleep.

LadyGrillingSole · 18/07/2025 17:04

Fingers crossed for a decent night's sleep for you and your poor boy. 💤

rainbowruthie · 18/07/2025 18:03

Oh no. Another night of shit sleep? No pun intended. The medicines didn’t give him relief? You poor thing. Sleep deprivation is horrible.

Is it nearly 5am there? It’s a bright sunny winter Saturday afternoon here so just checking my time conversion.

NotISaidTheCat · 19/07/2025 07:08

Yep, poor Hanging posted at 4.28am UK time.

I'm so sorry, Hanging. Poor you and poor Pod; this sounds awful.

MaxandMoritz · 19/07/2025 07:27

You’re both suffering so much. Hope to goodness the vet finds a way to make him better.

Ellmau · 19/07/2025 08:07

Oh Hanging, I'm so sorry. Poor old Pod too.

Pashazade · 19/07/2025 09:03

Oh Hanging, can Mr Hanging spot you some nap time today? It’s so rough, sleep deprivation is a nightmare, you will get through it. Hoping Pod’s stomach calms soon.

sydsmum · 19/07/2025 09:38

I don't know how helpful the following information is but I have a LOT of experience with doggy stomach issues. My dog had IBD. For the last 10 years of his life it was controlled with Royal canin GI dry food and a novel protein. He was also given digestive enzymes with every meal and antibiotics every day. After a few months the antibiotics stopped working and so he was changed to a different type. No treats at all were permitted. It was exhausting. I slept downstairs with him in case he needed to go out. If you need more information please let me know. But this regime kept him happy and healthy for many years x

LadyGrillingSole · 19/07/2025 09:40

This is just awful, you must be exhausted Hanging 😭

I've been reading everything I can find, maybe bone broth and probiotics may help Pod. Could anyone come over and Pod sit for a few hours to let you both rest - if there's any Pod squad nearby, maybe 🤔

HangingOver · 19/07/2025 09:58

Thanks my wonderful wonderful Podsquad. Pod did have a bit of sleep between 10 and 12, then DP looked after him til 3 and I took over and then he fell asleep just as dawn was breaking. He pooped at 8, 1 and 4.

He's got an ultrasound at 12 because the vet is worried.

One good thing has happened though, MIL announced on their family call that they want the spanners back next weekend!!!!

How on earth I'm going to shift all Meltys good livin weight by then I've no idea. She looks like she's been on a cruise.

Scampuss · 19/07/2025 10:28

Good luck at the vets. Really hope you get some useful answers, for yours and Pod's sake.

Oh, and Melty, that will be a tough gooodbye.

He's such a beautiful boy.

Good luck with the ultrasound.

Shesellsseashellsnotinmystreet · 19/07/2025 11:10

My ddog of old had colitis.. Mucus covered poo. Sometimes with blood in. Never kept to a poo schedule.. Was hard to predict. And hard to clean up without heaving.. Smells like death..
Good luck at the appointment... Poor Pod...

LadyGrillingSole · 19/07/2025 11:13

Dogsitting has the same rules as grandma's house - spoiling is to be expected!

Your vet sounds great, with Pod in good hands he should be on the mend ASAP😍

NotISaidTheCat · 19/07/2025 13:46

Good luck at the vet's, Hanging. I really hope they have some answers for you and that Pod is over this soon.

HangingOver · 19/07/2025 14:01

God that was a shit show. The scanning equipment is all that their main branch which is also an emergency clinic and judging by the amount of crying in the waiting room two of the dogs there were to be PTS. It was awful. In the end it got so late they said they'll admit him and do the scan and bloods later under sedation. I don't think they're expecting to find anything. The nurse kept saying how strange it was he seems ok during the day. I assured her I really don't think it's behavioural, especially since it was raining two night ago and usual Pod would rather chew off his own leg than go out in the night when it's raining.

He cobbed my sleeve like mad when I was saying goodbye. I feel absolutely awful. He's so so exhausted. Trying to have a nap but having a wee cry instead.
