Seriously, if anyone is considering getting a teenage/rescued/sight-hound/Podenco/all of the above and has NO idea what they're doing, please enjoy the previous instalments from the day we brought him home, to now, six months later. Posts will oscillate wildly from euphoric to mental breakdown and back again.

Pod has managed to out-pod himself. After barking continuously all day til I was crying real tears it was finally the time of day that I can use the private field so we drove there with him shouting continuously out the window then when we arrived as I was shutting the gate he jumped out the car window still attached the his harness and hung there like a giant spider. This is the dog who has never voluntarily jumped over, go under or gone through anything, even with treats. He's lost his whole, entire mind.

Just catching up - the heat has sent everyone here doolally and grumpy.

Long Wheelbase Hound had an actual grump at the Ancient One (who was to be fair, trying to insert himself INTO LWBH's mouth to eat the gravy bone he was eating... Twas but a mere handbags moment, he grumped, Ancient One screamed and it was all over and one of them had a spitty ear... but its most unlike the pair of them!

Fingers x the Spaniel Massive can go home (or elsewhere) soon... mm!

Sorry, I missed a word. Do the ticks cause paralysis in the animal they bite? Ticks here can and do cause paralysis and death if the tick has been attached for long and if you don’t get them to a vet soon enough for treatment to counteract the tick.

@HangingOver You and Pod need to run away somewhere where there’s no other dogs, definitely no cats, and no squirrels. Let the two of you decompress and lower the stimulation levels. It sounds very hard. Can you call MIL and work out a date for the spaniels to go home?

Poor MIL has more than enough on her plate.

I think I may have got to the bottom of it, pun intended. He was predictably terrified of getting back in the car after the field and as I picked him up I noticed the most hideous smell that wasn't there before. He's been a big backed up the past couple of days so I think his glands needed to empty and then.... Emptied. Blergh.

That's hilarious. My dog's bestie set a record the other day of four bits of squeaky latex fruit in her mouth at once. She looked like a hat.

Guys I don't know how the hell I'm going to say goodbye to Melty. She's like the perfect dog. You barely know she is there but in a nice way if that makes sense. She so quiet and chill and gentle, she's so affectionate but somehow not needy with it. And she's a beautiful swimmer and loves chasing her bol. She just... Sweet. Such a sweet dog.

Maybe you could accidentally forget to send her home? Springers always seem enthusiastic about everything!

Congrats to you and Melty, well deserved. She really is adorable. Some spaniels are insane but some are really sweet and she's obviously one of the latter.

Get yourself one of these (or similar - I can't find the UK listing for some reason). Life changing! I used to be one of those people who gets bitten all the time and then they swell up, last for a week and look disgusting. This stops the itching and reduces the bite to a red dot - like a normal person! Might have to redo it a few times depending on how long after the bite I get to it but it's amazing.
