All aboard Podsquad, it's Pod thread number 4.

In case you were wondering:

  • What is this (surprisingly) long-running thread about? A unique lunatic rescue Podenco, known as Pod. Featuring his pals, Stanley, GentleHowl, BabyPod, GentleBounce, Fastest and Princess and many more.
  • What makes you so special that you get your own thread? See above

Seriously, if anyone is considering getting a teenage/rescued/sight-hound/Podenco/all of the above and has NO idea what they're doing, please enjoy the previous instalments from the day we brought him home, to now, six months later. Posts will oscillate wildly from euphoric to mental breakdown and back again.

Here is thread No. 3 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/thedoghouse/5248472-they-love-a-bit-of-him-podlife?page=1

Here is thread No. 2 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/thedoghouse/5197068-the-pod-cast?page=39&reply=141216881

And thread No. 1 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/thedoghouse/5177112-oh-my-giddy-god?page=1

At least Pod likes other dogs. He’ll probably enjoy playing with Wiggle, and Melty sounds adorable.

FeralWoman · 25/05/2025 11:48

Meltydog sounds adorable. I hope that Pod and the two guest dogs get along well. Sounds like he and Wiggle will have a great time in a field together!

Hope that DP’s family member is well again soon.

HangingOver · 25/05/2025 16:36

Meltydog is wonderful.

Sadly he won't be getting well again 😭 Not properly. I expect he'll need to move into a facility if he recovers. I think with dog walkers though MIL should be able to cope with the dogs still.

I'm trying to think what I need to ask MIL. I don't want to keep bothering her.

I guess routine, food toilet and exercise. Whether flea and tick UTD. Favourite games or toys. Any triggers/fears.

I will definitely need to bath them at some point as they do smell like kennel dogs! Meltydog will 100% be sleeping with me if she possibly can.

That sounds a bit tough for DP’s family. Is it his dad?

Would you be open to becoming a three dog family if Pod gets along with the girls? It might be a possibility if MIL feels unable to look after them herself.

LadyGrillingSole · 25/05/2025 18:55

We're all thinking of you and Mr Hanging, it's the downside of having a loving family - the pain when they get older and, inevitably, infirm 😞

Being there for MIL and her furry family will mean the world 💐

HangingOver · 25/05/2025 22:58

Tbh I'm just grateful to be able to offer something practical to do. I like MIL a lot but we're not emotionally closed so I'm not in a position to give that kind of support. I know from caring for my friends Terror Squad during their terrible family tragedy last year how much it means to people to know their dogs are loved and being cared for though, so it's a tiny thing we can do. Oh they’re cute!

I’m sure that MIL is relieved to know that the dogs are safe and being looked after. One (two?) less thing for her to think about.

eggandonion · 26/05/2025 08:20

They are lovely. And that is a kind way to help out at a difficult time.

spiderlight · 26/05/2025 11:16

They're beautiful!! Good luck with it all.

HangingOver · 26/05/2025 16:49

MIL says Meltydog will.be absolutely fine but Wiggle will be extremely nervous.

Perhaps I should section off the house just to begin with.

OP posts:
OccasionalHope · 26/05/2025 18:54

That sounds prudent. Poor Wiggle. I hope she falls for Pod.

eggandonion · 26/05/2025 19:09

I think some dogs make unlikely friends, you can't predict. I hope that the stepsiblings get along well.

HangingOver · 26/05/2025 21:44

Took Pod for a walkie and it rained.

DEVASTATED. He dragged me back to the car and stood there wrapped in his towel the whole way home.

Hanging out with a couple of spaniels Pod will need to get to love being wet and muddy! 😂

HangingOver · 26/05/2025 21:59

How the hell is this going to work 😂

OccasionalHope · 26/05/2025 22:23

The eyes are pretty tragic too. Poor pod, bad rain,

WiddlinDiddlin · 27/05/2025 02:53

How did you survive the combination of those eyes (at least 20% bigger) and those ears (so much sad-droop!).

Pashazade · 27/05/2025 08:36

That made me chuckle this morning, oh poor Pod the weather hates him! So much misery. Bless him. Hope he is appeased with some sunshine today.

Scampuss · 27/05/2025 10:33

Oh Pod, you are so silly Easter Grin

HangingOver · 27/05/2025 12:06

Oh god I am absolutely freaking out, having flash-backs to how excitedly naïve I was the day Pod arrived and promptly laid into EVERYTHING he could see.

Pod's been to the vets and his tail wound is infected. Vet wasn't too worried, she said it happens all the time and just have to restart the antibiotics and hopefully the healing will happen in the five days he's being treated.

Pod is currently sleeping peacefully on the sofa with NO IDEA about the chaos that is one the way here in DPs van.

Hold us all in your thoughts Podsquad, I think I'm in for a rocky few days!!

You’ve got this Hanging, there is no way those two will be harder to manage than Pod. Even with Pod in the mix. You’ve learnt so much since then, you’ll get through!

WiddlinDiddlin · 27/05/2025 12:23

You've definitely got this - the crash course you've had over the last few months in 'ridiculous doggo problems and how not to go postal over them' will pay off now!!

DancingFerret · 27/05/2025 12:32

Positive thinking is the only way. It'll be a walk in the park...(cough)

Seriously, positive vibes on their way to you.

rainbowruthie · 27/05/2025 12:39

Sending heaps of positive vibes!
