Our beautiful dog

I am utterly devastated that today my beautiful dog passed away. She was a 14 year old English beagle. Our family adored her and are so heartbroken.

she collapsed and went into heart failure. We made the god awful decision not to let her be in any more pain. She would not have recovered and was paralysed and could not get up.

we got her to the emergency vets as fast as we could but they couldn’t do anything.

I cannot stop crying, I can’t believe she is gone.

So sorry for your loss op
. We lost our girl in February... Still doesn't feel real.

ForeverTeach · 19/04/2025 20:36

@Eggsboxedandmelting Thank you, she is everywhere I look and was my dog and best friend. I don’t know what to do.

Sending the biggest hugs and love to you. This is the day we absolutely dread. How sad you are feeling now is because you loved so much. I’m sure she was a very lucky happy dog.

ForeverTeach · 19/04/2025 20:37

@Boboparadise Thank you, I just want to scream that she was here and so loved.

Big hugs. It is the hardest part, but they rely on us to do the right thing at the right time.

ForeverTeach · 19/04/2025 20:38

@HappiestSleeping thank you. I know in my heart it was the right thing to do but I feel awful.

So sorry. We lost our dog on Monday so I really feel your pain. I keep thinking I hear the tinkle of his collar and the pad of his paws around the house. It’s so quiet and lonely without him but I am sure we will slowly get used to it. Just remember your dog lived a happy life and was very loved . That’s what I keep telling myself

Dearg · 19/04/2025 20:40

So sorry to read this. We lost our best boy last month. I am at the stage of waking up in the morning, looking for him, then remembering…

It is such a hard thing to do. I get that it’s kinder for the dog, but it really hurts.

Sending you love Op, and happy memories of your girl.

ForeverTeach · 19/04/2025 20:40

@Tiggy321 sorry for your loss. I feel like I should have her here with me, all her things are everywhere.

I'm so sorry that your lovely doggy has died. It sounds as though she had the best life and it was only at the very end her quality of life deteriorated.
Sending you hugs and thoughts. It's the most awful part of having our furry family members.

WinterMorn · 19/04/2025 20:42

I am so sorry. To have a dog is to truly know love. I am thinking of you all and will light a candle for you and your precious pup tonight 🌷

ForeverTeach · 19/04/2025 20:43

@Justkeepingplatesspinning @WinterMorn thank you.

I'm so sorry. We lost our boy 16 months ago, and I still miss him every single day. I know it is a cliche, but time is the only thing that helps. The initial all consuming physical pain of grief does ease and you will start to be able to talk about her without the gut wrenching sorrow. Dog lovers understand, sadly others don't and can often be flippant, but dogs are our immediate family and it is truly heartbreaking. As awful as it sounds, I very recently lost a grandparent and I am still sadder about losing my dog, the immediate changes to your routine and household are so much more obvious with a beloved dog.

If you want to, you could share a photo? Or tell us about your lovely girl?

I am certain that somewhere, my boy is welcoming your beautiful girl with a nice cup of tea and (double chocolate!) cake, and they are having a good old chin wag about their wonderful lives with us.

ForeverTeach · 19/04/2025 20:45

It was the most surreal experience. My eldest daughter took a cab from London to us to be with her at the vets. The vet was so lovely and let us spend time with her. My daughter and husband got to be with her. My youngest 2 were with me.

@bumblebee1987 thank you. I felt awful for thinking I ve cried more for her then my MIL who died last year.

So sorry @ForeverTeach.

I know I will be devastated too when the time comes.

The only consolation I can offer is that your grief demonstrates how much you loved her, but also, how much love she experienced. You made her feel loved and that will have changed her life.

ForeverTeach · 19/04/2025 20:48

My beautiful girl.

She reached a good age…you must have given her a good life. That does not minimise the feelings of loss you are experiencing. A much loved dog.

ForeverTeach · 19/04/2025 20:54

@Clarissaclaire thank you. We loved her so much. It’s so painful.

I am so sorry, we had the same scenario in Feb, it’s truly one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had to go through (and I’ve lost close relatives). It does get slightly easier but I held a friends dog today and the rush of oxytocin I felt overwhelmed me, like I’d been missing a huge chunk of life. I wish I could say something to make you feel better but it’s a process we have to go through. I will say that the biggest act of love you can do is to be brave enough to let go for their comfort and peace. You obviously gave him the best life and so many dogs don’t have that. Sending love x

ForeverTeach · 19/04/2025 20:56

I can’t stop thinking about wether she was scared and if she knew we were there with her.

tinyspiny · 19/04/2025 20:57

Sorry for your loss 💐, this was where we were in November last year , it’s no different to losing any other family member so take care of yourselves .

ForeverTeach · 19/04/2025 20:58

@MAFSsaddict thank you. She really was the best. I think my cat knew as he was really pestering her today and rubbing himself against her.
