So I’m a man. I live with my little French bulldog who is my absolute world. He’s 6 years old. From a puppy he’s always slept on my bed and I wouldn’t have it any other way. So I met a girl. We get on great but unfortunately she thinks dogs shouldn’t be allowed on the furniture or sleep on the bed. We haven’t spent a night together as I won’t leave my dog to stay at hers and she won’t sleep at mine because my dog sleeps with me. I can’t see this relationship going anywhere and she says I’m being unreasonable putting my dog before her needs. I’ll always put my dog before any relationship. AIBU?

So as all you lovely people took the time to answer I think you all deserve a little update. I ended it and according to my now ex I’m a sad pathetic loner who only has his dog for company. Odd that as I go to festivals and paddle board and have a wide circle of friends. Yeah she didn’t take it well lol. My dog means the world to me. He saved my sanity.

I once dated a man who was so obsessed with his dog he wouldn’t even shut it out of the bedroom when we were having sex. He also credited it with helping him through mental health struggles. He has now found a woman who is fine with the dog being a peeping Tom and is very happy. So it truly takes all sorts. I’m sure you’ll find your person.

It would be a deal breaker for me personally but that doesn't mean you're wrong. Lots of people love their pets sleeping on their bed. Hope the right one comes along soon OP.

The biggest dealbreaker here for me is using the word ‘fur baby’ to describe a pet dog.
You’re not compatible, neither of you are being unreasonable in your positions - you’re happy to sleep with a dog in your bed, she isn’t. I wouldn’t be either and would have ended the relationship once I realised you did.
There will be someone else who’s happy to share the bed with a dog but this woman isn’t it.

However referring to yourself as a man but referring to your presumably (hopefully) adult GF as a girl is really demeaning and sexist. Women aren't in some sort of permanent state of infantilism.

It’s a breed with numerous health conditions - breathing difficulties, skin problems, ear issues, susceptible to heatstroke, various eye conditions, short life expectancy.

Being called fugly is the least of that dog’s problems.

It is a massive green flag for me if someone is that devoted to their pet.
My dog sleeps on my bed too, and I also call her my fur baby. I rescued her, and she rescued me.
I met a man who does not have pets, but also dotes on her and does not care that she crushes his feet in the night.

You will find someone who aligns with your views. This lady was obviously not meant to be.
