I've buckled and started the new thread - welcome to the horror of adolescence!

@CaptainBeanThief talks about a PMD near where she lives being nicknamed The Pigeon Protector so perhaps I should refer to Brie as The Spaniel Supporter for the purposes of this thread @brushingboots 😁

@Goneback2school sorry to hear about your nervous pup. What’s he like if you sit at the front of your house just watching the world go by.

I don’t think I would try heel work at the moment; he sounds too stressed. I think I would concentrate on getting him used to different things very gradually. He looks at a scary thing and gets a treat. Pair the scary stuff with nice treats, but if he’s too stressed to take the treats then you are too close. I’ve been doing this with my puppy who was terrified of the scary builders on our flat roof. They’ve been working on the roof for a few days and he’s been able to settle with them up there.

Did he miss early socialisation?

The other thing, if he’s pulling so much he’s choking a harness might be more comfortable. The ones with the clip front and back are good. At least when Midge pulls I feel like I have more control.

As well as our garden we bring him out to a little green area by a river across from us and he is fine there, will run around, play with sticks and stones, gets the zoomies if let etc. He will always pull to get there and back though.
With the age we got him and vaccination schedule we missed most of the early socialisation period but we did try. He's just always been nervous.

Did I comment on your individual post a week or 2 ago?
About your pup being very nervy outside? Think @brushingboots gave you some good advice too?
X

I love seeing 5 million pictures of Milo (and the cute bunnies too), you know that. I haven't done any Brie pics this week yet...

So, should she be the Spaniel Supporter or the Thread Guard Dog? Or shall I part exchange her for a Cocker just to blend in?🤔After todays lead biting performance, I may consider swapping her for a Hamster, truth be told...😩

brushingboots · 17/01/2025 22:39

Yes I've realised that if I didn't comment I definitely read (one of?) your thread/s about him, @Goneback2school. He's lovely. But very sad to think of a scared spaniel as they are such joy-givers. Here to help if we can x

brushingboots · 17/01/2025 22:40

Hahah @CoubousAndTourmalet I love the idea of the Spaniel Supporter cf @CaptainBeanThief's Pigeon Protector. How would she react to our delinquent spaniels, do you think?

CaptainBeanThief · 17/01/2025 22:42

Noooo @brushingboots under no circumstances can we torture @CoubousAndTourmalet and brie in this way!!!
Milo and pupsy would ruin their lives after an hour...
What about @Bupster and @YorkshireFelix 🤣🤣

brushingboots · 17/01/2025 22:45

Hahah this is true @CaptainBeanThief. I just had a happy memory of the heady days of your bogus Pyrecock (was that its name?) breeding programme in the first thread that, I believe, featured someone's garden house – might have been Brodie's?

CaptainBeanThief · 17/01/2025 22:48

Oh yeah and it wasn't bogus thank you very much you better take that back 🤔
It was at @CoubousAndTourmalet in the bottom of the garden and Brodie was coming, I demanded it was done up for me and that I wanted to live there rent free, and I called it a "shit hole"
Of course I was joking, I already live in a shit hole so anything is an upgrade, and @CoubousAndTourmalet lives in a nice area,
Can I still move in? @brushingboots has ignited a fantastic memory/idea 💡

CoubousAndTourmalet · 17/01/2025 22:51

She'd be terrified of them @brushingboots and @CaptainBeanThief

An adolescent male GSD tried to get her to play on the field today (both were on long leads) and she couldn't wait to get away from him. She seems to think she's tiny, I do wonder if she actually thinks she's a cat, because she tries to get on the back of the sofa with Freija...

CoubousAndTourmalet · 17/01/2025 23:02

Oh well remembered @brushingboots it was indeed a Pyrecock and @CaptainBeanThief is right, it was my crappy old kennel (aka The Spider House) that I promised to tart up. And I do indeed live in quite a posh village but in a tiny, not so posh house. Ah, I do wonder how Brodie is getting on...

Would you prefer to wait until the mudpatch returns to lawn (if indeed it ever does) before you move in, CaptainBeanThief, or shall we replace it with AstroTurf?
Hey that's a thought, plastic grass might stop Breezy digging holes...🤔

I want you all to have a Spaniel party somewhere, that'd be lovely!

No, I did post about him in November not long after we got him. Some of the behaviour from then has improved and some hasn't. He still panic pee's in the house but is now coming out of crate etc without coaxing.

lookwhatyoumademedoo · 18/01/2025 08:37

thankyou @brushingboots and @YorkshireFelix.
A spaniel party would be amazing and max would be thrilled!
welcome @Goneback2school. Agree with others id leave the heel work for now and work on building his confidence. I'd start on the green area where his confidence is there, let him sniff and play there, lots of positive reinforcement, then walk a little further from the green, once he's confident walking a tiny bit further, go a little further again. Keep at this until he's happy to go further without any fear.

Nella68 · 18/01/2025 10:49

@YorkshireFelix what a lovely window!

CoubousAndTourmalet · 18/01/2025 11:09

So the resident guard dog is out doing her usual thing, but she's giving me some evil side-eye here, because she knows I saw her pick up a chunk of sod from our snow-decimated lawn...

Ngngngng he is SO BEAUTIFUL! Currently on our fifth spanner, a show cocker after 4 springers and while I love him, my heart belongs to the Springer spaniel. There’s no better dog ❤️

God, I know, proper snooty! With that GSD yesterday it was like "get away from me, you foolish boy!" That's PMD girls all over 🙄
