I’m trying and failing to come up with names for our new girl. So far
Minnie (the breeder said she isn’t!)
Ginny (reminds them of Weasley)
Hattie (like a hat!)
Izzy (nope)
Carys (not keen)
Aoife, Flora, Annie, Freya, Nessa, Lyra?
Help!!!!!

Everyone needs a Moose in their life

Fenrir, which is a wolf in Norse mythology.

LittleGreenDragons · 14/01/2025 09:06

Betsie/Betsy

She is adorable 😍

Mac tíre is wolf in the Irish language, you could work with that, if you google it you will get an example of pronunciation which you could adjust to suit.
Personally I prefer Cuan, its means Hound but just appeals to me for its extended meanings historically.

Cuan is a boys’ name though and mac means son.
Not great for a girl wolfie?

EdithStourton · 14/01/2025 09:40

Donkey? That was our biggest dog's nickname.

More seriously, I'd go for something Irish like Maeve (I won't even attempt the Irish spelling, I'll cock it up).

Good luck with your new pup - I can't imagine a three-wolfhound house, but if you really love a breed, they can get addictive.

I don't think the dog will mind, many names which used to be gender specific are used for both girls and boys now never mind animals.

MrsCrabOrange · 15/01/2025 14:40

A wolfie needs an Irish name fitting of her heritage 😂

Aoife, Orlaith, Fiadh, Niamh, Aisling, Fodhla, Meabh, Ciara, ,Cliona, Sinead, Dearbhla, Morrigan, Aoibhinn, Saorlath, Eimear.

Too many lovely names. It sounds utterly bonkers but I’m going to ask her when we pick her up. 🤦‍♀️

I think you need to imagine yourself shouting it across a field when you want her to come back. So two syllables ending in ie or y. Our IW was called Rosie (plus a KC name that I can't recall at all).

paranoiaofpufflings · 15/01/2025 20:32

That's not as bonkers as it sounds! That's how I named my previous girl. I read out a list of names and she looked at me when I said the right one.

MumInTheMitte · 15/01/2025 21:46

What about Daisy? I think it’s lovely with Willow and Isla

Wolfiefan · 15/01/2025 21:57

Daisy was the mum of one of our current girls.
I’m definitely imagining myself shouting it across a field. Plus imagining stringing all three names together when I need to.

My friend has just done this yesterday with her new dog! The answer was Ruby.

Mum5net · 16/01/2025 15:16

Hope Ruby was a blue roan spaniel 😉

She’s a scruffy Heinz 57 in various shades of grey. I can’t share a photo as she’s not mine but she’s lovely.

Wolfiefan · 16/01/2025 15:37

One of my dogs has a sister called Ruby so we can’t use that.
