Fancy guessing the mix of breeds in our rescue?

She’s around 3 years old, been with us now for 9 months and has settled really well into living in a house in a different country, having come from Turkey. She’s quite a character, super affectionate and likes to be close to us, absolutely loves her walks and has a strong hunting drive. She is medium sized and weighs around 13kg, probably slightly overweight but she was so skinny when we met her in Turkey.

I would love to get her DNA tested at some point to identify the mix of breeds.

Definitely hound in there. Whether it’s beagle or something similar I don’t know. Matches both the appearance and the prey drive.

Searchingforjobs · 10/01/2025 20:40

I thought beagle but the colouring might be too dark. There's a hint of staff in there I think.

MadeofCoffee · 10/01/2025 20:50

I was going to say terrier of some kind in there.
She's gorgeous 😍

disappearingfish · 10/01/2025 21:04

Lovely dog.

Why don't you dna test her? It's a lot of fun.

TinyMouseTheatre · 11/01/2025 07:23

No idea but 100% adorable if that could be a breed? 😍

Mingenious · 11/01/2025 07:27

Beagle x Kokoni?

GreenDogDot · 11/01/2025 07:31

Hound of some variety, maybe a touch of collie in the colouring and the tail and probably some terrier because they sneak in most places!

MadeofCoffee · 11/01/2025 16:31

Yep I'd go with hound/terrier/collie mix. Although I have no idea what other breeds they have in Turkey! I've be very tempted to DNA test.

MrsSkylerWhite · 11/01/2025 16:32

Her body is very similar to that of our late, lamented Parson Russell Terrier.

MabelMora · 11/01/2025 16:33

Bit of beagle, bit of collie, bit of spaniel, bit of everything?!

MabelMora · 11/01/2025 16:34

Love the Goldie too ❤️.

MrsEmmelinePankhurst · 11/01/2025 16:35

Definitely DNA test her! (we used Wisdom Panel). We have 2 Greek rescue dogs; one has 11 breeds in her DNA and the other has 17 !!

Id say that your little beauty has some beagle, chihuahua, hound(s) and probably lots more besides. Our 2 both have some Segugio Italiano in their DNA which I’d never heard of before.

Border Collie x Lab

2serious · 11/01/2025 16:42

Chocolate lab x corgi

MaryGreenhill · 11/01/2025 16:43

Beagle x Jack Russell

WinterFoxes · 11/01/2025 17:04

Looks like a beagle Jack Russell cross to me, with maybe a bit of lab way down the line - those gentle eyes! She's gorgeous.

Beagle x Jack Russell

Haha, snap !

Iloveyoubut · 11/01/2025 17:23

I’m guessing beagle with a staffie/terrier cross. Gorgeous! ❤️

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 11/01/2025 17:24

Beagles JRT

FigusCarica · 11/01/2025 17:29

Quite sure Beagle. A terrier of some kind, I see Russell but maybe another terrier and there's something else like a Border Collie or similar.
He is so lovely 😍

DogInATent · 11/01/2025 17:32

The likelihood of a Turkish street dog being a mix of known-in-the-UK breeds isn't high. The DNA test will no doubt be the usual randomly unlikely list.

StormingNorman · 11/01/2025 17:36

Healthy dose of Jack Russell for sure. She’s bloody lovely whatever she is!

I used to have a segugio. He was so beautiful and gentle with gigantic ears 😍

PlayingDevilsAdvocateisinteresting · 12/01/2025 08:33

Jack Russel and Labrador, with possibly one or two extra mixes as grandparents!
Both of your dogs are gorgeous 🥰

Is reliability a thing with DNA tests? Are they a con?

Agree there are many different breeds in other countries, so unlikely anyone here going to hit the nail on the head.
