Fancy guessing the mix of breeds in our rescue?

She’s around 3 years old, been with us now for 9 months and has settled really well into living in a house in a different country, having come from Turkey. She’s quite a character, super affectionate and likes to be close to us, absolutely loves her walks and has a strong hunting drive. She is medium sized and weighs around 13kg, probably slightly overweight but she was so skinny when we met her in Turkey.

I would love to get her DNA tested at some point to identify the mix of breeds.

Is reliability a thing with DNA tests? Are they a con?

Agree there are many different breeds in other countries, so unlikely anyone here going to hit the nail on the head.

It's not so much a con as vigorous over-interpretation of data in a manner likely to impress the general public. It provides a measure of how much DNA a dog has in common with an unknown number fs dogs of those breeds. If your dog shares 12.73% DNA in common with a Lancre Wolfhound it does not mean it's 12.73% Lancre Wolfhound.

His face shape and eyes remind me of my rescue of unknown heritage. Mine is definitely part Beagle, we know his mum was a Beagle/other working hound mix.

Our vet thinks his dad could have been a rott/pit mix but that is nothing more than an educated guess.

We had our Bulgarian rescue dna tested to help us train her and she's 23 different breeds so not very helpful really !
