What are you getting your dog for Christmas?

So far I just have a home baking biscuit kit which obviously she isn't going to be able to play with...although she loves unwrapping gifts. I'm looking for any lovely treats that have gone down well with your hounds or toys that are a bit unusual but a hit?

A new toy- the lion king

Maybe a new chew as well

Ihopeithinkiknow · 12/12/2024 21:59

I haven't got a dog but my sister has and I'm his auntie haha I have bought him some hair scrunches as he likes to play with them and take them off my wrist and my daughter has bought him his own pair of socks with his face printed on them because he likes socks too lol I must sound like a right saddo but he is just adorable and loves opening presents

bakewellbride · 12/12/2024 22:00

A nice new lick mat from Aldi.

brawhen · 12/12/2024 22:03

A large bone. She gets the same every year, but she doesn't seem to mind!

bluebalou · 12/12/2024 22:04

New dog bed and lick mat

FortunaMajor · 12/12/2024 22:08

Mine (GSD) loved her Starmark Bob-a-Lot and the Trixie Turn Around treat dispenser. She's had a small ball pit too which she likes if you bung a few treats in.

Now she tends to get one of the large Kong soft toys with some sort of rope attached. She plays with these consistently all year and chooses them over other things. They're very heavy duty and worth the cost. I usually take her to Pets At Home to see which one she takes most interest in and then wrap it because she likes ripping the paper.

3rdtimeinflorida · 12/12/2024 22:09

A bag of ball pool balls. Going to tip them all over the floor Xmas morning and let him go crazy!

PlantDoctor · 12/12/2024 22:12

DD picked him a squishy bee with a Santa hat from pets at home. I picked out some Christmas treats.

Parents' dog is getting an 'indestructible' shark toy but he's VERY good at destroying apparently unbreakable things so we shall see how long it lasts 😅

A scale and polish.
And a wash and blow dry from a professional, rather than me standing in the shower in my vest and pants, desperately bribing her with kibble, and grumbling about my bad back.

KitKatChunki · 12/12/2024 23:34

The Starmark Bob-a-Lot and the Trixie Turn Around treat dispenser looks interesting - we had a Kong which now I think about it seems to have gone AWOL. Maybe in a bush in the garden, hmmm.
Great suggestions. I do usually take her to Pets @ Home to have her pick but felt like getting something she might not "sniff" and realise the fun to be had.

Ours always needs a toy to protect our furniture so will get a couple of novelty ones i bought in flying tiger. They look like they might not see Boxing Day. Each child will give him one.

This sounds like me. She does not enjoy spa days sadly and I often wish I could swap places with her and have my nails done and a blow dry while she did the weekly shop.

Giant octopus stuffy with squeaky legs. Canned sprats (boak).

Floranan · 12/12/2024 23:45

I shall be visiting my “dog man” on the market tomorrow, he sells buffalo skin rolls/lamb rolls as well as ears all of which she loves. Thinking of making a selection box up for her of ones big enough to last her 3-4 hours so we can watch a few films on tv in piece ( she’s 13 months old)

chattyness · 13/12/2024 00:13

Some 'no hide' chews by earth animal, squeaky tennis balls a new blanket and a couple of squeaky stuffy toys. It's what he likes, in the past we have bought the latest trendy dog toys like a wiggle giggle ball and nerf ball launcher thingy and they got the cold shoulder so sticking with what he loves

mondaytosunday · 13/12/2024 00:36

We don't buy presents for the pets - those Xmas treats make them sick and they are not into toys. But in perusing my son's footie team website I saw dog sweaters were half price so got the dog one! She'll wear it tomorrow though to get more wear out of it (I'm sure she won't be disappointed not to have anything under the tree).

wandawaves · 13/12/2024 00:45

Premade Christmas treat stockings. It's a variety of yummy stuff that they usually like. I've also got them some kangaroo bones that they love. And one stocking to share with toys in it, as they're not big on toys anymore. And Christmas bell collars for Christmas day; not sure how long they'll tolerate them though lol.

I also want to buy one of them some private training sessions because she's pretty feral out in public, but that'll depend on finances. The human children come first. 😝

familyissues12345 · 13/12/2024 08:37

A new collar and I'm on the hunt for a decent interactive game for her. She likes the one she has now, but it's pretty basic and she has it cracked in seconds!

Also planning a nice fluffy cushion. She's a small dog who has buggered the back of our sofa cushions - she likes sitting on the backs like a cat Hmm. We're getting new sofas (harder backed!), so I wanted to get a nice cushion to encourage her to have her own spot..

averythinline · 13/12/2024 09:01

Bobalot is great would highly recommend.... Will have look at that Trixie toy .
Have bought other puzzle games with mixed results
Deer legs or bone of some type... Ostrich worked well...

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 13/12/2024 09:05

A couple of teddies (he’s a lab and always has to have a teddy or sock in his mouth).
A new blanket.
Some form of dead animal parts from the country pet shop round the corner.
A new collar.

He loves opening presents!

KitKatChunki · 13/12/2024 11:22

@familyissues12345 which interactive game has she got that is going down well? Ours is a bigger breed but also loves crushing the sofa cushions...it doesn't seem to matter how many options she gets elsewhere, she wants to see out of the window. I need a bed on stilts that can raise her to the level of them so she can survey the front garden.

She usually likes animal parts but we got pigs ears at PAH a couple of months ago (in a big bag) and she won't eat them. To be honest they have a weird waxy texture that I hadn't encountered before, so I wonder if they are too processed?

A chewy thing so I can bin the others.
A squeaky owl. She has 1 can carries it to bed with her but she ate the ears, wings, feet and face and needs to retire to fluffy toy heaven.

Glenthebattleostrich · 13/12/2024 12:18

A selection box of various bits of dead animal.
Some new Kong balls
A new yak chew
Bags of her favorite treats.

She gets so excited opening presents and loves 'helping ' us with ours.

PocketSand · 13/12/2024 12:32

DDog had a good year last year - new bed and head massager. He loves opening presents but stuck for this year.

Antlers. And squeaky toys! And a few different foodie treats.

We used to put our old dog's presents under the tree and he would go and get them and open them. Fair enough when it's treats due to smell but once (he was old!) he had a cashmere shawl and knew it was for him! Picked it up, carefully unwrapped it and snuggled!
