Cost of teeth cleaning at vets

Can anyone let me know how much teeth cleaning costs if undertaken by vets with sedation.

I have been quoted £800 which feels steep.

Ouch. My spaniel was done about six years ago and that was £199. It was special offer and he's never needed it done again.

Is this a chain?! That price is astronomical. We (DP practice) charge £180.

Mine had an extraction and clean - was about £240. independent practice.

I was quoted £745. But the vet explained that they included an extraction, incase she needed one once they had cleaned them.

The local groomers has started teeth cleaning at £150 I think that would be my starting point.

I hate feeling like the vets have you over a barrell for certain things.

I there likelihood of extraction that has been factored in? It does seem steep. We paid around £250 last year.

Small dog, paid £330 last year, no extractions, Vets are part of a chain .

My previous vet charges £800 for cleaning cat's teeth. They said they only do it under general anaesthetic and extractions may be necessay. So I didn't get her teeth cleaned. I moved house and my new vet suggested changing her food for a dental care food. It worked and my cat's teeth no longer need cleaning

It's a well known vet scam/cash cow. Unless your ddog is scarfing sweets all day long it's very unlikely he'll need his teeth cleaned in this lifetime.

Pretty much every vet I ever visited in the 15 years of my spaniels life (both here and in Oz) recommended a clean under general. Often £600 up. I declined consistently and she passed away last year, with the same slightly stained but solid and healthy teeth she was born with.

Just buy some doggy dental treats, or if you're brave have a go yourself with a toothbrush. A normal healthy dog won't need it though.

My local groomers charged £20! Might be worth you asking groomers in your area?

Just give your dog a bone , there teeth will be clean in no time.
Vet waned to pull DDog teeth and clean them last year. Just had yearly check vet is amazed at the improvement. Clean teeth and no need to remove any .

She has got drooly recently but is still eating fine. Apparently her breath is bad (according to the vet). I’ve declined twice and now wondering if I should just do it.

I might call around though as the price seems very steep even including GA.

They do sonic cleaning at my dog groomers I'd try this first, once a month, I will work out a lot cheaper.

Just a warning about groomers though - the only cleaning they offer is superficial and if your dog is at the stage of drooling and potentially having dental disease, they do need a proper clean under anaesthetic to prevent decay.

The process used at the groomers is fine for dogs who already have clean teeth though.

Mine had a tooth extraction because he chipped it quite badly playing rough with another dog :( They did clean his teeth while he was under and it was £218.
I think the main cost is the anaesthetic and that goes off the weight of the dog?

I didn't realise this, but I can believe it! Charging £800 to clean a dog's teeth is f*cking outrageous. There is no justification for this price.

I only had my cat's done because she was 13, and she had quite poorly teeth, and also gingivitis. She needed 4 teeth out too. Never had her teeth cleaned by the vet done prior to that.

Indeed, not in 20 years of having (3) cats at that point, had we ever had any of our cats teeth cleaned.

How many people can afford £800 to get their pets teeth cleaned?! Utterly ridiculous. Vets are so greedy. I bet there is a lot of unnecessary suffering and animals being PTS because of their greed.

While I do think £800 is extortionate, I don't agree with this. Some dogs do just have bad teeth - sighthounds and brachycephalic dogs are renowned for it unfortunately. Their jaws are just the wrong shape.

It's also true that sometimes, like with children, you can do everything right and your dog can still have issues - especially if they're a rescue and you don't know their background.

I'd shop around, that's astronimical. I've never paid that for any of my pet's teeth cleaning.
Last year I paid £500 for teeth cleaning and removal of two canines.

Had our dogs teeth done last week at an independent practice. Lurcher, GA, x rays scale and polish £325. Greyhound, GA, x rays, 6 teeth extracted, scale and polish, pain killers and antibiotics £1000

That's a LOT. I think the last quote I had was about £300 if no extractions needed (they often don't know till dog is under anaesthetic being checked). Each extraction can add up to £100 though.

The last one for a cat was £262 which included X-rays. Our vet ask patients to have them each year if necessary. Extractions etc push up the price. I also paid for a blood test which was £80.
