Hello PodSquad,

Thank you for being on this crazy ride with us.

Here's the OG thread if anyone wants to go back and laugh at how staggeringly naive I was adopting my first rescue pup: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_doghouse/5177112-oh-my-giddy-god?page=1

Could someone please explain who this dog is in my house and what they've done with Pod? Because he's been absolutely angelic today. Truly a wonderful, wonderful dog and even coped with my DF and DPs pal coming over for Sunday dinner and sitting up getting merry on red wine.

Or perhaps the collective will on MN have given me a SERIOUSLY needed good day. What a star. 🥹

Oh my giddy god...... | Mumsnet

I can't actually believe I'm finally typing this... I think I'm getting a dog! I've wanted one of my own my entire life. I had one growing up and l...

I like the way they can look sophisticated and flopsy!
I know a golden retriever who hugs other goldies.

Did he seem to recognise his own? We used to have a sheltie and she would always get very excited to see others like her and also rough collies which look just like them but bigger!

Our sheltie was very unwelcoming to another sheltie who came under the hedge uninvited :( Her BFF was a Rottweiler/German shepherd mix of fearsome appearance but sweet nature.

One of my DB's Bernese was BFFs with a Jack Russell.

I understand greyhounds mostly like other greyhounds.

Dog friendships are lovely. My dog had a lovely girlfriend, and for some doggy reason they stopped being friends. They ignored each other.

Love the updates!

Excellent video of Pods ears on the gram 😁

Awww, love him and his amazing ears!

MaxandMoritz · 01/12/2024 13:34

It's beautiful!

Costacoffeeplease · 01/12/2024 20:47

Great video 😊

Ellmau · 01/12/2024 21:20

I can't get on with instagram, but good to know he's doing well :)

WagathaCreamT · 02/12/2024 06:40

Ooh what's his IG handle OP? I lurked on your original thread and found the new one last night. He's such a handsome chap.

Pod's aversion to the house being clean is truly impressive. Any attempt to clean the floor or sofa, both manually or with mechanical assistance, will result in non-stop shouting.

The mere sight of the broom, steam mop or dustpan and brush will result in shouting, whether in use or stationary; all must be hidden. When in the garden, if Pod hears, sees or suspects sweeping is happening indoor, he will bark at the closed door in order to be let in, so that he may continue to shout at the cleaning in progress.

Ditto, even if a juicy bone is being partaken of in the garden with all doors closed, the sound of the moving or use of any vacuum device, handheld or Henry, will result in access being demanded in order that he may shout at it.

Using a cloth on muddy paw prints on the floor is similarly unacceptable.

We have a similar aversion to the dishwasher. We have to put it on just before we take him out for a walk.

HangingOver · 02/12/2024 12:32

What I don't understand is, Pod is GENUINELY scared of the Sodastream. He see me fill up the bottle and stops what he's doing, and I go "Run, Pod!" and he bolts outside while I do the fizzing.

This is not that. He demands to be nearer the broom SO he can then yell at it. Suggests not scared but perhaps combative...? Does he think I need saving from the broom??

OP posts:
WiddlinDiddlin · 02/12/2024 13:32

Often scared will look like combative which leads people to think a degree of confidence exists... wot isn't there.

Suggest you walk./entertain as far away as possible, whilst someone else hoovers/sweeps. Sit in the car with him with some music on and chewies/treats etc..

Sweeping seems to be both a bit scary (particularly for any dog thats been whopped with a stick) but also a bit provocative/exciting and so you have conflict and mixed up emotions going on there which most dogs struggle with but the adolescent pointy-brained dog reallllllllllly finds tough!

Hoovering, high pitched sound we can't hear plus that somewhat provocative sweeping action... same sorta dealy. Even the Stick Dog can sometimes find Henry upsetting and he needs a good shouting at, depends on how full her stress bucket is on the day really and she's not normally bothered by noises/has had no actual trauma in her life!

HangingOver · 02/12/2024 15:59

Thanks for your brilliant input as always Widdlin.

My hand hurts so much. I hate Pod today. Obviously I completely adore him but fuuuuuck. It's so bloody hard some days.

OP posts:
WiddlinDiddlin · 02/12/2024 16:10

I know that feeling... 'I love you but ohhhhhhhhh i could yeet you so so very far...'

Currently feeling this about Stick Dog who waited til i was transferring from wheelchair to sofa and stuck herself in the way so I've twisted my knee, and then she skipped off all 'but Mummy, why ARE you swearing at meeeee?'...

Flower arranging sometimes seems like much the better hobby.

HangingOver · 02/12/2024 16:28

Im glad I have this thread to vent and you all know I'm just sounding off and I love him really.

He didn't even mean to chomp me today he's just been a completely highly strung shitbag all day. But he got the same spot on my hand twice in a row which led to some extremely bad language from me. I've had five minutes alone in the conservatory with some deep breathing now I've got my arms around him on his little bed and he's gone to sleep. He's overtired and stressed and an arsehole

OP posts:
MaxandMoritz · 02/12/2024 16:50

You have plenty to vent about!

But it's very obvious you adore him. Especially when he's asleep 😁

Ellmau · 02/12/2024 20:10

Oh dear, sorry he's being a Bad Boy today.

On the other point, I feel dogs are naturally pro-dirt and anti-cleanliness, where cats are the opposite :)

My cat also hates the vacuum and any mop. He is also scared of the soda stream - I think it’s the way it hisses when I take the bottle off.

FeralWoman · 03/12/2024 06:10

@HangingOver All parents love their baby/toddler/child more when they’re asleep. That sounds very normal to me! I’m sorry that he’s been an arsehole and bitten you. Your compassion and love for him is admirable. He’s a very lucky Pod to have you.

School is winding up for the year over here and they’re watching movies and doing craft. DD came home with a mini Pod balloon dog. I swear it’s got the same sized ears as Pod!

Came across this recommended dog trainer... The Facebook page has some interesting and possibly useful videos in it. Thought you might like to see.

God I am fucking terrible at this. DP is away tonight and I've already shouted at Pod and swatted him with his blanket.

He had me in a corner and was going at my jumper hard so I had to keep pushing him off with my feet and I was shouting Get off get off get off til I could get out the room. I hope so much that he grows out of this clothes biting thing, I hate it 😭

OP posts:
WiddlinDiddlin · 03/12/2024 19:41

Oh dear... if it helps, I had to shout GET OFF ME YOU FAT HAIRY BASTARD at the Low Wheelbase dog as he managed to jump on me on the bed the other morning when my back was in spasm and I couldn't shove him off... he thought it was a game and was trying to nip my nose and stick his tongue in my eyeball or up my nose, but he is nearly 30kg and i have Ehlers Danlos and that isn't funny or comfortable at all.

That does sound like a horrible situation and in all honesty, I would probably have done the same. I might have tried to shed the jumper to see if that would placate but ... one doesn't always have the presence of mind needed for such thoughts when under manic, over threshold mutt onslaught!

I have known bigger, heavier idiotic teenagers (ill be honest im thinking about dobermans here... mostly dobermans, some gsds) grow right out of that behaviour... it is absolutely possible.
