And how much does it cost per day?

Harringtons - no idea about the daily cost as we buy in bulk, but probably about £40 every 6-8 weeks.

PyreneanAubrie · 10/10/2024 09:12

We're currently alternating between three brands of puppy kibble (Purina/Wainwrights/Nourish) plus she has wet food trays (Wainwrights) and assorted treats.

Cost, no idea but I'd estimate something around £3 per day minimum but more if I also included chews.

DominoRules · 10/10/2024 09:15

Butternut box and bloody loads!! He eats double the amount recommended so it’s about £140 a month….. he also has some homemade raw but that’s not much at all

We've kept him on it as it really suits him and it’s always been an uphill battle to keep him at a healthy weight (he’s prone to being too skinny!) so don’t want to change and risk him dropping

PoliticalPossum · 10/10/2024 09:24

Butternut box and Lily’s Kitchen (bics). 250G of butternut box a day (across three meals) and 300G of Lilys Kitchen.

TBH the cost is irrelevant unless you factor in dog breed and energy needs - cost varies massively depending on breed and energy. My boy gets 2 hours a day and is 36KG (Golden). So he costs much more to feed than a smaller, less well-exercised Golden

EveryKneeShallBow · 10/10/2024 09:25

Naturo mix of wet trays and dry kibbles. About £100 per month.

Floralnomad · 10/10/2024 09:26

Nature diet wet ,he likes it and his poo is good on it .

Abc1weabc1 · 10/10/2024 11:56

Bulmers raw. Works out about £1 per day for each dog

muddyford · 10/10/2024 17:54

One is on Skinners Maintenance , the young one is on a salmon and rice kibble made by Pero (he can't have chicken) but marketed under the label of our local farm shop. Costs about £30 a month for the two.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 10/10/2024 17:59

Aatu.Its a very good Kibble.
I've got a v small dog so a £25 1.5kg bag lasts a month

Fiftyfiveandcounting · 13/10/2024 09:05

We were feeding out two on butternut box which they loved but for a 20kg and 10kg dog it was working out very expensive and we were having to top up with a good dry food too. I also didn’t love the high lentil and carrot content though didn’t seem to cause issues.
now feeding Pure Pet Food which you rehydrate so it’s a lot easier than frozen too. They seem to love it and they get a handful of Carnilove True Fresh every day too which is about £74 for 11.5kg. It’s working out about £4 a day for both which for the quality of the food I think is really good and they’re both doing very well on it. They also seem less hungry on Pure than Butternut, they were constantly starving even though they were being fed the right amounts.

EdithStourton · 13/10/2024 10:07

We feed our two (c25kg each, very active) for about £2.50-£3/day.
One gets Skinner's Field and Trial kibble, the other a much more expensive one as she is a fussy little bugger, but we're trying to slowly wean her over to Skinner's.
Over the course of two meals (one day), they share a tin of Butcher's which is a about a quid a tin (sometimes they get something cheaper).

They also get table scraps and meat offcuts.

SuperDupe · 13/10/2024 10:09

We use Naturediet and have it on subscription direct from the manufacturer. Mix half a pack a day with a cup of mixer from Tescos. 1 pack works out about £1

autienotnaughty · 13/10/2024 10:29

Labrador, we buy Millie's wolfheart it's £54 every 4 weeks

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 13/10/2024 10:33

It really depends on the dog and their activity levels.

Our 22kg HPR dog that does CaniCross eats a mix of kibble and butchers tins (one a day), plus a few extras over the week like sardines, eggs and suitable scraps.

I spoke to the vet and their nurses about how to keep weight on her as she has always runs skinny and upping food can cause loose poo. Each dog has their own balance.

Costs about £15 a week.

We have a Weimaraner and also feed Millie's Wolfheart, it was a game changer for us.
Customer service is exceptional too!

I have a 35kg Flattie and it has taken ages to find a food that suits him! He now eats a lamb and veg kibble from our local pet shop which is made by GA pet foods and Butchers. He gets blueberries and veg chucked on it and it's the only food he has eaten with any enthusiasm!

You're the only poster I've seen on here mention Country Dog! Doesn't seem well known.

Our Springer is also on this, although the salmon grain free version. She has a lot of food intolerances and this is the only food that seems to agree with her.

Do you know about the discount code @NerdWhoEatsMedlar ? Aadf30 gives you 30% off at checkout. I use it every month.

SirChenjins · 13/10/2024 10:50

A good kibble for breakfast and raw for dinner. I’ve really no idea how much it costs, I’ve never really worked it out. It’s not a lot, he’s 10kg so doesn’t eat a huge amount. The raw is much cheaper than I thought it would be but it varies depending on what meat he’s getting.

DuhanDuhan · 13/10/2024 10:56

Ci Tickety Boo fish based kibble for both (big and small) dogs - I think it's about £1 a day? One has the 'light' version, as he's a bit of a chonk. Plus a tin of Aldi sardines on top a couple of times a week, the odd egg shell, spoon of yoghurt, etc. The vet has a nutrition vet nurse who seems pretty happy with the omega 3/protein/fat content.

autienotnaughty · 13/10/2024 11:00

@drivinmecrazy absolutely it's fab, a reasonable price for good quality and delivery is prompt too m. I wish they did a subscription though.

TheFlis · 13/10/2024 11:04

Ours is raw fed, currently using Natural Instinct. He’s 13kg and pretty active so gets 330g per day split over 2 meals plus a bit of veg. It costs as about £50 every 6 weeks.

MissyB1 · 13/10/2024 11:10

Lily's kitchen wet pouches and the kibble. Have a monthly standing order, no idea of cost as dh sorts it out. Ddog is a mini schnauzer, she's a very picky eater, sometimes she wolfs it down, sometimes she starves herself for 24 hours. She would be the same whatever food we gave her!

FloofPaws · 13/10/2024 11:11

My Samoyed is a medium size dog at 20kg. She has 2 meals a day, half a tin of butchers dog meat and 2 handfuls of Harrington complete or Bakers meaty cubes / she also snaffles the cat meat if she gets a chance!

I used this website to get ideas/reviews of certain foods. My dog is only 8kg and can be picky! I tried all sorts- pate, trays, tins. I order Gentle dog food online in bulk, then mix this with sainsburys natures goodness and naturo. She then has 2 sachets of winalot a day too. I'd prefer her to have butchers, but she went off that.
