Neighbour HATES my dog!

1000 replies

Canecorsomummy · 08/08/2024 19:20

Hi everyone!

I’ve lived in my house for over 9 years now, have owned a poodle cross for 8 of those years. April last year I got a Cane Corso puppy, spoke to this certain neighbour informing her, gave her my number and told her if there was any problems with barking etc, especially if I’m not home, then go please let me know so I can resolve it but she has done nothing but cause me problems ever since.

Last year I was taking rubbish to the bins and the CC followed me out and was being fussed over by my neighbour on the other side of my house. 24 hours later the other neighbour put a computer typed letter through my letterbox stating the car park is not a place to walk a dog, it is illegal for her not to be on a lead and if she sees it happening again she is going to report me for having a out of control dog and her being a dangerous breed!! I sent her a text message explaining the law very basically for her and explaining under no circumstances will she be putting notes through my letterbox over something which could be dealt with by an adult conversation.

Well, since April this year she has made numerous reports to RSPCA claiming I’m neglecting her, abusing her and now a report to Social Services claiming I’m not only neglecting my CC, but she is a dangerous breed and I have a young child in my home!

I have absolutely had enough now!! My back door is normally open 24 hours as I have an enclosed garden but I’m petrified to allow the dog to be able to go in and out at her free will because of this neighbour, petrified I’m going to be approached by rspca/police when I’m out walking her ….

I just don’t know what to do now.

Most of the types who cannot control them have stupid extender leads. Or they send the kid out to walk the rottie!

Cane Corsos are a type of mastiff rather than bully so generally a bit more mellow . Only thing you can do with your neighbour is ignore her. If you know the dog is well cared for, trained and under control just get on with your life and leave her to it. Your neighbour will just get a reputation as being a nuisance when she keeps reporting you.

She already has a reputation with the other neighbours. It’s not just me she’s had problems with over the years.

She only has my number because police had been knocking on our doors, asking if we had seen her/when we had last seen her so I put a note through her door just informing her and asking if she could let me know if she was ok

Your neighbour has every right to put a note through your door if your dog is being a nuisance. I have no idea what kind of breed a cane corso is but other posters seem to think it's an unsuitable pet especially if left alone for long periods of time like yours seems to be. You sound like an irresponsible dog owner without consideration for your neighbours who have to live with this potentially dangerous dog which could well be an illegal breed.

To be honest, I am sick to death of dangerous dogs being inflicted upon us.

I absolutely hate walking past these types of dogs and hate too when they sniff you and the owner lets you.

How come you can press charges if a man comes into your space and sniffs you... but not when an animal does? Why do you have to wait until AFTER the fact you are bitten to be able to take action?

I am happy for individuals to have whichever dogs they choose... if they can find a way for the unwilling majority to have ZERO contact with them.

My ex’s mum used to let her dog hump random people which he told her off about so many times but she wouldn’t listen 😭

But actually legally you are allowed to tell owners to remove their dogs from your vicinity. Under the dangerous dogs act, if a dog is acting in a way to cause fear they can be in breach of legislation. An unpredictable animal with very sharp teeth coming up to me causes me fear -so I’m happy to tell dog owners to keep their dogs away from me. I also don’t know where their mouth has been and don’t want it touching me 😐

My neighbour let her dog jump up so it ended up scratching me, the second time her dog approached me I told her to keep it away. She refused.

I reported her to the building management and all the residents were told to keep their dogs on leash and under control. If that hadn’t been done, I’d have reported her to the council.

Dymaxion · 08/08/2024 21:50

I did! When I text her about the letter she posted through my letter box, before informing her the CC is not banned etc, I apologised, said I had no idea she was frightened of dogs and that I would ensure it doesn’t happen again, which it hasn’t

@Canecorsomummy Ok that is one box ticked, have you thought about going round and speaking to her in person, explain you want her to feel safe and you want to know how you can achieve this ?

I don’t walk either of my dogs on extending leads, only halti leads. Hate those extending leads tbh, it provides no control over any breed of dog

So I wouldn't have the door open 24/7 regardless of the neighbour situation. Too many people think it's funny to torment/tease/poison/steal dogs. Also she shouldn't need constant outside access if she's housetrained and happy chilling at home so it's not an issue.

Regarding your neighbour, let her complain. If all is as you report, it's a waste of everyone's time and they won't keep coming out. Might be worth reminding your neighbour she has to declare neighbourly disputes if she chooses to sell though...

OP hasnt suggested the dog is left alone for long periods, quite the opposite.

BogusHocusPocus · 08/08/2024 21:15

Regardless of whether it is on the dangerous dogs list, whether it's off its lead or unsupervised, and all the other considerations...

.... it looks like a breed that would have a very big bark.

Barking dogs are horrendous to live next door to. Yet you say it doesn't bark. Really? Why doesn't it? I thought all dogs bark.

NO all dogs do not bark. I have a big dog and he almost never barks.

Beth216 · 08/08/2024 21:51

One minute OP you're terrified of being stopped by the police, the next you already know all the local police and they fuss over your dog. Then apparently your CC can come and go in and out of the garden as it pleases while also never being left alone with the other dog or your child - so where are they while the CC is coming and going? How are you keeping them all separate when you go to the toilet or have a shower? Every time you leave the room are you really making sure each of the three (child and dogs) is separate from the others?

Why would you risk getting a dog with one of the most powerful bites amongst all dogs when you have a child?

Where have I said she is left at home for long periods of time? There are places I can not take either of my dogs so I informed her I had a puppy and if she was barking while I wasn’t home then to let me know so I could resolve the issue

I live in a house! If I have to go upstairs for something I will take one of the dogs up with me also my son is ATTACHED to me so if I’m upstairs, he’s upstairs. I have well fitted stair gates at the bottom AND top of my stairs!

yes the local officers do make a fuss over her but the reality is, at some point, after numerous stupid reports, neighbour complaining nothing is being done, they will have to do something to appease her

Massive dog lover here, I absolutely adore dogs and have had them all my life but even I wouldn’t have a Cane Corso and would be weary of one.

They are a breed that needs an experienced handler/owner, is this your first? And they need a lot of adequate exercise too. Leaving the back door open all day is not adequate.

I know my limitations so I’d never own one. And I judge inexperienced owners who can’t give these breeds what they need. Sorry.

Viviennemary · 08/08/2024 21:59

I googled it. And it is a bann3d breed.

Sorry but why have you taken the time to post here? You don't know the dog breed but also won't take any time to research it and you don't even know whether it's legal or not... just what you've read here and then made assumptions on that? Take the time to look into things before you speak on them otherwise you're wasting everyone's time.

My back garden is completely secure, there is no way to even get near it unless from a neighbours garden. Obviously if it’s freezing I don’t leave it open, oh and if it’s raining because she won’t freely go out in any rain 🤣🤣

So initially there were fears about the bans coming in as XL bully ‘could’ refer to any large dog of a similar stature/build, however Cane Corso is not a banned breed and nothing to suggest it will be anytime soon.

SilenceInside · 08/08/2024 22:05

@Sevenwondersofthewoo yes! That's my point - it isn't banned!
